Celeb Hairstyle of the Week: Selena Gomez

We have a total hairstyle crush on Selena Gomez's chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!

Selena Gomez's braided hair

Selena Gomez is already as cute as a button, and one pretty lucky lady -- she is dating Justin Bieber, after all! -- and this week, the starlet was treated to a bit of pre-birthday pampering at the Nine Zero One salon in Hollywood. The salon's co-owner, Riawna Capri, transformed Selena's typically straight locks into a gorgeous "half way to LA" braid and I'm seriously wishing my hair was long right now.

Take a look at how cute the back of this 'do is especially, lovelies. The combination of beachy waves and a wraparound braid creates a super polished yet totally youthful and sweet look that we're all crushing on. Want some inspiration on summer braids? Look no further.

We're loving Selena's cute hairstyle! How about you? Sound off in the comments! And check out other celebrity hairstyles!

Its just about that time again, an event that has the ability to make anyone and everyone jump out of their seats! Summer Olympics! Amazing. You cannot help but get excited and feel proud. At least I can't. Never mind the amazing location of London! Just fabulous! Now if only choosing the right outfit were as easy. Fret not, ladies, I've got some style tips to help you ring in the upcoming Summer Games in high fashion.

When you're deciding between being patriotic and supporting your country or staying fun and energetic with your style, things can get confusing! And the big question still remains: How do you combine all of these options into several amazing, chic outfit choices?

Considering the fact that Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell are set to appear at the Olympics as well as millions of others, I can’t imagine there will be any lack of fabulous fashion, so with that in mind, here are some of my top picks for any diva that lands a place at summer fun in London:

Our pick: Linen drawstring pants, Calvin Klein, $30

Lovely linen

I love the linen look for summer. White linen pants are comfortable, stylish and fresh. They can be paired with an amazing tank or cardigan to take them from a beachy look to a classy day in London.

Our pick: Linen drawstring pants, Calvin Klein, $30

Our pick: Linen boatneck shirt, Ralph Lauren, $109

Sweet sweaters

Comfortable sweater tanks are a must-have! They are stylish and chic, as well as classy and fun. I love Ralph Lauren simply because of the colors and variety, as well as the affordable price. Paired with an amazing pencil skirt or linen pant, this look screams London Games!

Our pick: Linen boatneck shirt, Ralph Lauren, $109

Our pick: Printed wrap dress, Banana Republic, $78

Wow in wraps

I also simply love the classic wrap dress. This dress should be an essential not only for the Summer Games, but also just for your closet in general. Depending on what accessories you choose to pair it with, it can be an amazing summer daytime look. It's also super easy to transform into an evening look!

Our pick: Printed wrap dress, Banana Republic, $98

Our pick: Vintage pinup dress, Vintage Living, $49

Vintage vixen

This is also one of my all-time favorites! Never letting go of the '40s, this dress is adorable paired with the right shoes! It is perfect with a great pair of sunglasses and just the right hat!

Our pick: Vintage pinup dress, Vintage Living, $49

Pretty patriotism

Patriotic fashion is also so trendy! Who doesn’t want to show their red, white and blue colors? Whether the event you're attending is during the day or night, here are some of my favorite options!

This sweater from Wildfox has been seen on tons of celebs lately including Jessica Simpson and Ashley Tisdale! It's fun, screams GO AMERICA and couldn’t be more adorable with a pair of leggings.

Our pick: Wildfox seeing stars sweater, Shopbop.com, $60

Our pick: Wildfox seeing stars sweater, Shopbop.com, $60

No matter what fashions you choose, make sure you're ready for any type of weather. Be sure to pack an amazing trench coat, a fabulous pair of sunglasses and your best attitude! Remember this event is all about fun and excitement... and of course the style!

With the London Summer Games upon us, we wanted to have a little fun with fashion and hold a medal ceremony of our own to honor our favorite American designers. Team USA has tons of promising fashion contenders, as well as quite a few seasoned vets. Who will take home the gold this summer? Read on to find out!
Gold: Alice + Olivia

Gold:
Alice + Olivia

I’m obsessed with the adorable Ashley Hebert’s fashion sense.

So as a result, I am just as obsessed with Alice + Olivia. Alice + Olivia was created by fashion designer Stacey Bendet, a down-to-earth chick who lives a life of fun and fantasy. Have you seen her blog? Check it out -- it is one of my favorites! If I had to guess her mission statement, I would say it is to never stop creating the perfect pieces to make others say, "Where did she get that?!" Alice + Olivia's mod looks can be worn together for a jaw-dropping ensemble or as separates to add in as part of your everyday wardrobe.

Silver: Prabal Gurung

Silver:
Prabal Gurung

World traveler Prabal Gurung hunkered down in New York City to launch his first collection during New York Fashion Week in February 2009. Since then, his vision has flourished and has manifested itself on influential ladies like Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey. If I had to describe his designs in one word, it would be empowering. He loves slyly showing off the subtle sexiness of the shoulders, sides or tops of the thighs with his geometric cuts. He then adds in feathers, metallic, lace, ruffles, ropes and fur all together in ways that are fun but still retain their purpose: to make a woman feel gorgeous. His collections are like straight from a celestial dream, consistent yet never boring. Every one of his designs is breathtaking, and this makes him a must-watch American designer.

Bronze: Ralph Lauren

Bronze:
Ralph Lauren

Known for his plaids and polos, Ralph Lauren is an iconic American fashion designer. And even though he is currently under fire for outsourcing this summer’s U.S. Olympic uniform designs to be manufactured in China, Ralph Lauren still makes my list and here’s why. Of course he consistently hosts good runway shows, and his fall cabin-couture looks and his spring hot-Hamptons attire will never get old to me. But, it's the fact that while doing all of this, he also set out to create two of the most amazing wedding dresses for his daughter, Dylan, and daughter-in-law, Laura Bush. Looking at both of these oh-so-different wedding dresses, you know it was no easy task to take on! Ralph, you're still my man!

With the London Summer Games upon us, we wanted to have a little fun with fashion and hold a medal ceremony of our own to honor our favorite Canadian designers. While the list could have been a lot longer , we narrowed our picks down to three standouts worth getting to know.
Top spot: Dsquared2

Top spot:
Dsquared2

Dsquared2 designers Dean and Dan Caten, have built a mega-brand that continues to grow and push the boundaries of fashion. They create looks for men and women that stand out for their impeccable tailoring mixed with a fresh energy and playful, sexy vibe we love. Their clients include some of the biggest names in pop music, including Britney Spears , Mariah Carey, Fergie and Rihanna, to name-drop a few. Even Madonna wore a pair of Dsquared2 jeans in her 2000 video for "Don't Tell Me."

Second place: Pink Tartan

Second place:
Pink Tartan

Known for clean lines, elegant sophistication and urban femininity, Kimberley Newport-Mimran’s women’s wear line offers classic pieces with a contemporary spin. She focuses her keen eye for detail and knowledge of what works on a woman’s body on wardrobe essentials like the perfect tailored white shirt, pants that fit well and flatter, chic yet functional outerwear and polished yet easy-wearing evening wear. The New York showroom opened in 2004, and the line is now housed at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, as well as specialty stores across North America, Dubai and Seoul. For fall 2012, expect bright pops of lush color amid a palette heavy on gray, white and black.

Bonus: Kimberley’s husband, Joe Mimran, is the designer behind another one of our fave Canadian brands, Joe Fresh. It’s fun, affordable and always on-trend.

Third place: Eve Gravel

Third place:
Eve Gravel

Retro with a sexy, sophisticated spin, Montreal’s Eve Gravel deserves a spot on our list for consistently building on her ability to create clothing that not only flatters, but makes the wearer feel confident and effortlessly pulled together. Gravel’s designs may be understated, but they maintain a sense of fun that gives every piece its own personality. From flirty, ethereal dresses to more structured separates, there’s something for everyone among her multifaceted yet totally cohesive collections.

Our favorite British fashion designers

With the London Summer Games upon us, we wanted to have a little fun with fashion and hold a medal ceremony of our own to honor our favorite British designers. Jolly old London has brought us many things to be thankful for -- David Beckham, sexy British accents and of course, Kate Middleton's style escapades -- so today, we're paying tribute to a few of our fashion faves from across the pond. Who will take home the gold this summer? Read on to find out!
Gold: Topshop

Gold: Topshop

OK, OK, so Topshop isn't exactly the Vera Wang of fashion, but it is a hugely popular brand, and for good reason. Recently, I got to check out their huge store in London while on vacation, and it just reinforced my love for the brand all over again! Not only does Topshop offer high fashion designs for a low cost, but it's the only high street brand to show at London Fashion Week! Pretty cool, no?

The hip brand is pretty youthful for its age -- it started out in 1964 -- and boasts over 300 stores in the United Kingdom. If you ever get the chance, make sure you check out Topshop's flagship store in Oxford Circus, but if you're in the NYC or Chicago areas, you can also peruse their fab locations. If you're not already a Topshop addict, it's time to get with the program, ladies!

Silver: Roksanda Ilincic

Silver: Roksanda Ilincic

Haven't heard of her? Then I'm glad you're reading this! This Serbian-born designer has dressed celebs such as Ginnifer Goodwin and Kate Middleton , and debuted her first line in 2005 as part of Topshop's New Generation line. Since then, she's been wowing with her designs at retailers like Harvey Nichols -- doesn't get much better than that.

I love anything girly and well-tailored, so it's no surprise that I'm sort of crushing on Roksanda's designs! My fave to date? The retro pink dress Goodwin wore to the People's Choice Awards this winter. With the rise in celeb clients of Roksanda's brand, I'm really excited to see her expand more into the U.S. in the coming months and can't wait to watch every fashionable turn.

Bronze: The Cambridge Satchel Company

Bronze: The Cambridge Satchel Company

The Brits seem to love their accessories even more than we do in the U.S. -- fascinators, anyone? -- so I'd be amiss if I didn't include a pick for an accessories designer in this roundup! My latest fave? The Cambridge Satchel Company.

I recently got the opportunity to check out one of their bags firsthand and am totally in love! The neon Fluoro collection is totally on trend for the season, and super vibrant. The company's bags are compact but pack a lot of punch in the details, which is what every woman looks for, right? What I love the most about the brand is its uniquely British feel. After all, what's more British than a satchel? And hey, the price and the fact that these bags are sold in Harrods -- aka the fashion capital of London! -- doesn't hurt either.

With the London Summer Games finally here, we're hosting a gold medal ceremony to honor some of our favorite designers from around the world. France brought us the stylish names of Christian Dior, Coco Chanel and Louis Vuitton who will always hold a place in the fashion games hall of fame, but what other french designers deserve a shiny metal this year?
Christian Louboutin

Gold: Christian Louboutin

Footwear is his playground and we're just living in it. His latest challenge was to bring Cinderella's glass slipper to life and that is exactly what he did, proving once again that he is, simply put, the king of making feet fashionable.

He's been creating shoes long before the Loubi glass slipper and his inspiration came from a sole desire to create a shoe that would empower women . His pumps always rock a red bottom to reflect red carpet-worthy style, a place where iconic women constantly define their personal styles. Everyone from Madonna to the Kardashians and Carrie Bradshaw have become part of Louboutin's world which continues to show us that a classic pump with a smidge of sex appeal can change the way you see your own world. Now, if only Christian Louboutin would create a line of footwear for the budget-conscious girl. We'll keep dreaming!

Hubert de Givenchy

Silver: Hubert de Givenchy

Spotted this year on Rooney Mara, Rihanna and Fergie, Givenchy has still got it. After all, where would we be without the black cocktail dress that Audrey Hepburn made famous in her 1950s film Sabrina? With the help of Hubert de Givenchy, Audrey changed how society defined sexy in the '50s -- the big busts and voluptuous curves that actresses like Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly had already made famous got a little taste of Givenchy-meets-Hepburn and the rest was history.

The moral of their story? Don't try to mold yourself into what the world expects to see. Instead, flaunt your figure no matter what shape or size you are and show the world that being yourself is sexy all on its own.

Paul and Joe

Bronze: Paul and Joe

It's runway style meets street style. As a slightly more modern label, there's something to say about how their designs work with prints and color. The label was founded by Sophie Albou who also teamed up with Urban Outfitters to create the casual line called Rendez-vous. Paul and Joe began as menswear only, added womenswear about five years later, and now totally rocks at creating feminine pieces using great color palettes and pretty prints with a menswear edge.

The brand also has a beauty line and creates classic accessories that further define their classic style. We can't wait to see how this label continues to evolve!

Teen Choice Awards fashion: Dos and don'ts

$

0
Fresh off of last week's Teen Choice Awards, we're sharing some hard-learned fashion lessons from the stars. Who rocked the red carpet, and who flopped completely? Read on, and learn from the stars' mistakes!

Summer shorts suits

A really fun summer trend this year has been the short suit. Think of it as a chic and fresh alternative to wearing a tuxedo look or party dress.

Carly Rae Jepson

Carly Rae Jepsen looked super cool and sweet in her palm tree print Lisa Ho ensemble., opting to pair it with a camisole, oversized clutch and simple black pump.

Kat Graham

Kat Graham took a more sexy approach opting for a Wish double breasted jacket wearing nothing underneath but a long necklace and some strategic double stick tape! She amped up this look with a cool geometric shaped clutch and nude pump.

Invest in a tailor and nail the perfect hem length

Alterations can make or break a red carpet look. An easy way to transform your outfit is to adjust a hem. Check out the stars who got it right and some who missed the mark.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift looked picture perfect in a white chiffon Maria Lucia Hohan frock. The length of her dress hit perfectly right above her knee, while her nude shoe elongated her lovely legs.

Victoria Justice

Another big winner in this department is Victoria Justice, who rocked her Gomez-Gracia printed hi-low dress perfectly. This can be tricky but she got her proportions just right. She opted to go super short without being inappropriate. Her trick: She showcased her legs, but the balance of the long train and high neck keeps it from being over the top. Not to mention she accessorized perfectly with a studded belt and simple nude pump, letting her dress stand out!

I adore Jordin Sparks and Zooey Deschanel, but they got it all wrong this time! Here are two perfect examples of why it is so important to adjust your hem accordingly.

Jordin Sparks

Jordin shows us what happens when you go too short. Her super mini and voluminous bubble hem totally throws off the balance and proportion of her Chagoury Couture dress, making her look heavier than she is. She is a beautiful woman with a slammin’ curvy figure that would be best suited in a dress that hits just at or below the knee

Zooey Deschanel

Alternatively this is what happens when too long goes wrong. Zooey Deschanel’s fashion error made her look eras older. Unfortunately the length of her dress makes her look dowdy and short. The dress is very pretty and fits her well. My tip would have been to shorten the hem three inches above the knee for a more flirty and fun, and age appropriate style!

Don an eye-catching color

Nothing shouts summer more than wearing a bold and bright color! These starlets chose juicy hues that made the cameras flash and quenched our color thirst!

Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev looked gorgeous in a teal strapless J. Mendel number.

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez chose to wear DSquared and was absolutely perfect in pink; showing us how to wear neon the right way!

Lucy Hale

Lucy Hale, was one of my favorites all around. Rocking a Wes Gordon mini dress with geometric neckline. This poppy color was spot on.

Shay Mitchell

Shay Mitchell wore a canary corseted yellow Donna Karan dress, topping off our list of rainbow beauties.

Go for the gold

Just in time for the London 2012 Olympic Games that kicked off Friday, July 27 is CoverGirl's newly-outfitted LashBlast Volume Blasting Mascara that debuts along with other commemorative products. See if the wand truly goes for the gold in our review below.

CoverGirl has never shied away from endorsing top notch personalities, from Taylor Swift to Ellen DeGeneres. Now, the brand has its sights on Team USA and its quest for the gold. They've endorsed two Olympic contenders: volleyball player Jennifer Kessy and boxer Marlen Esparza... just in time for London 2012.

And, not only that, the brand is debuting Limited Edition beauty products that include the LashBlast Volume Blasting Mascara, Outlast All-Day Lipcolor and Perfect Point Plus Sharpening Pencil as a way of commemorating the 2012 Games.

LashBlast Volume Blasting Mascara review

We're focusing on the bulbous white-clad wand here, which looks sleek and beautiful in its simplicity. The formulation is the same as the traditional LashBlast but the packaging is different. You're probably thinking of the tried and true orange wand with black bristles -- the traditional version of LashBlast.

For the 2012 Games, CoverGirl has some new packaging for the mascara which is a simple white wand and visibly vivid plastic orange bristles. The words on the mascara read "P&G Worldwide Partner" and the tube bears the five ring symbol of the 2012 Games. The word CoverGirl is in an elegant, almost invisible silver. The carton itself is a light gold color instead of the more traditional white backdrop. It also features the P&G logo that looks as though it's part of a dangling medal.

before

Before

After

After

The formulation is all about volumizing lashes -- the same as the tried and true orange version. Here's what I love about the new Limited Edition mascara:

  • The formulation: It is still the same LashBlast formulation, as far as I can see. The mascara does not clump on the bristles and goes on nice and evenly throughout the lashes. It still features the biggest mascara brush ever from CoverGirl.
  • The wand itself: This is a beautiful white wand that looks classy and elegant and very buttoned up. Very British! The wand also has an applicator tip that tapers at the end ever so slightly, so as to give the lash fringe a really good coating.
  • The packaging: I really love brands that support team efforts, especially something as important as the USA winning the gold medal at the 2012 Games. I think it's a brilliant idea to launch Limited Edition products in classy, understated packaging as a way of commemorating the occasion.
  • The price: At $8, it's a win-win.

As mentioned above, there are other products that come with the Limited Edition debut, including the Outlast All-Day lipcolor which has a liquid lipstick in a tube that resembles a fat cigarette. This gloss-like lipstick has a sponge-tip applicator.

The CoverGirl Limited Edition products retail now at mass retailers nationwide. Aren't your lashes going for the gold too?

Try a style like this San Diego Hat Company Large Brim Floppy , which is bold but not over-the-top.

Flora Bella Mia Raffia Ribbon Fedora

Fierce in a fedora

For the ultimate in cool-ness , moms should have a fedora to wear while running errands or even going to the park. Fedoras take you back to the era of hipster old school movie stars and transform any outfit into a style statement. Look for styles that have patterns or are different colors to match whatever you might be wearing. One style to try is this Flora Bella Mia Raffia Ribbon Fedora .

Jessica Simpson Women’s Cloche Ha

Classy in a cloche

Under Armour hat

Marvelous in military

For those of you who love the look of a baseball cap, try a military or newsboy cap which gives a similar front visor look and fitted cap, but with more flare. Instead of plain brown or khaki green, look for styles in shades of pink, like this hot pink military cap from Under Armour . These look great even embellished with rhinestones for a real girly-girl look. These caps are ideal for working out or running after your kids at the park.

Moms know that kids love visiting amusement parks and resorts and the summer is the ideal time for most families to enjoy these excursions. One thing that many moms don't think about is the amount of pictures and experiences that happen on these trips. Without proper planning, Mom can look and feel frumpy instead of fresh and fashionable. Here are the perfect choices for your encounters with large furry animals and roller coasters!

AG Adriano Goldschmied Chambray Romper

Romper room

Rompers are the ideal choice for comfort and style. Try a utilitarian style in a durable fabric like denim. Moms should also look for a style that has pockets and a slightly loose fit so they don't feel constricted during the day. One to try is this AG Adriano Goldschmied Chambray Romper .

Fringed Ruffle Neck Trapeze Dress from Loft

If you love dresses, try a flowy, cotton sundress like this Fringed Ruffle Neck Trapeze Dress from Loft . For added comfort, try a pair of bike shorts underneath so you never need to worry about how you look getting off a ride!

Skechers Go Play Sneakers

Chic sneakers

Probably the most important part of walking and standing all day is comfortable shoes. Find a pair that provides comfort and cuteness at the same time. One pair to try is Skechers Go Play Sneakers . These combine a lightweight design that you can wear without socks, so you can keep going and going and going...

Coach Poppy Denim Print Backpack

Style and utility

Amusement parks are often an all day excursion, which means you need the right bag to keep everything that you and the family need. Try a practical yet fashion-forward backpack so you can be a chic mama. One to sport is this Coach Poppy Denim Print Backpack . Not only is it fashionable, but it has pockets on the outside for water bottles and inside it has multi-functional pockets for your cell phone and wallet.

Sunglasses

Super sunglasses

Being in the sun all day means Mom needs the best sunglasses to protect her eyes. Look for glam oversized frames with polarized lenses to protect your peepers from the glare of the sun, like this pair from Prada .

Wildfox Couture Maui Babe Gypsy Hoodie in Malibu Pink

Everyone wants to look their best on special occasions, yet we continually procrastinate and wait to choose the outfit until the last minute. Here, I plan to show you how to start shopping year-round, so you'll always look as fabulous as possible!

How to shop year-round

Might you be guilty of this?

You were invited to a wedding three months ago. You have been meaning to shop for something to wear for weeks but have never quite gotten around to it. The event is now in two days. You have procrastinated long enough and you finally face the department store, armed with the delusions that you are going to walk in the front door and the perfect outfit will be right in front of you. Not only will it be perfect, but it will fit you and your budget flawlessly. Your fantasy outfit is so spectacular that when you walk into the wedding chapel, all eyes turn in admiration. You almost feel guilty of upstaging the bride.

Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely to happen this way. The real scenario will probably go something like this…

Two days before the event, you arrive at a store one hour prior to closing. You wander from department to department with a zombie-like stare hoping that inspiration will present itself. Only because you are exhausted do you happen to stop at a rack of dresses. You thumb through, thinking they are fairly lackluster as an associate tells you that the store will be closing in fifteen minutes.

Suddenly this rack of dresses is like fresh water on a desert island. Off you go with a few in hand to the dressing room. As you quickly try on and are underwhelmed by the first two dresses, you catch sight of your watch. You now have five minutes.

The third dress you try on, probably as lackluster as the first two, all of a sudden seems so much better than it actually is. The shoulders don’t exactly fit right, which you chalk up to needing a different bra, and the length is, well, just a little too long. Perhaps better with heels? Then there is the color, which seems a little off with your own complexion. “It must be this dressing room lighting,” you surmise.

You can hear the sales associate breathing on the other side of the door. “How are you doing in there,” she says, reminding you with her tone that the store is now closed. Before you can answer, you feel a rush of thoughts -- “This dress fits me the best of the three.” “I should have brought my heels so that I would know the length.” “With the right makeup, will the color work?” “Do I need to shop for a different bra?” “Don’t I want to be done with this thoroughly awful, completely stressful experience?”….You screech: “This dress works!” The sales associate replies: “I am so glad…” The thought bubble above her head continues with “….that you made up your mind and I can get out of here.”

Thirty-six hours later you wear the dress to the wedding. The length, even with your highest heels, is still just a bit too long. The shoulders fit a little less worse with the help of a different bra. The color, even with more makeup than you have ever worn is still, well, not the most flattering. Not only do you not receive compliments, but you actually feel mad at yourself for not taking a different route for this entire procrastinated exercise. Needless to say, you never wear the dress again and feel foolish at having spent the money on it.

While not procrastinating is easier said than done, the entire situation can be avoided by looking to your closet for inspiration, taking shopping seriously and incorporating a simple concept to your vocabulary: year-round shopping.

Here are some tips to ensure a stress-free fabulous outfit for every special event:

Planner

Take a look at last year’s day planner or calendar. If you seem to average three weddings, two formal parties and a handful of informal events per year, put a list together of these events and carry it in your purse. This way you can be reminded and be on the lookout for these items throughout the year. This is called year-round shopping.

Closet

Use your closet as inspiration. Take a look at the clothes in your closet and use them as a shopping guide for a special event outfit. The colors, fabrics, silhouettes, patterns and necklines should all be noted and will keep you focused on finding the most flattering clothes whenever you are out shopping.

Woman looking at dress

When you take the time to shop, take it as seriously as you would an important meeting. Prepare for it and give yourself plenty of time. If you’d normally wear makeup with the outfit you’re going to buy, wear the same makeup on this shopping trip. If you usually avoid glasses in favor of your contacts, put in your contacts. And definitely bring the shoes and undergarments that you expect to pair with your new purchase.

Armed with these tips and embracing the concept of year-round shopping, you are sure to always have the perfect outfit to wear to any event that makes you look and feel as absolutely fantastic as you deserve to!

Dress

The maxi is back this summer and we happen to love the laid back look created by these floor-skimming styles. Maxis are made for the beach and we suggest trying this parrot-print one-shoulder dress on for size .

Sandals

Flat footwear is a must for the beach since a day in the sand is all about comfort. But you don’t have to give up on good taste. Just find something simple yet chic like this pair of pretty patent beach-worthy sandals .

Beach bag

Leave your more structured bag at home and opt instead for something more casual. We like this straw beach bag with rope handles . The roomy tote is perfect for carrying anything you need for the beach, from swimwear to towels.

Sunset cocktails

There’s nothing more romantic than watching the sun go down while sipping a colorful summer cocktail. This scenario calls for something elegant yet effortless and we have just the outfit in mind.

Sunset cocktails

Dress

Look pretty in plum in this elegant strapless silk chiffon dress . We love the side boning at the bust, flattering empire waist and eye-catching asymmetrical handkerchief hem skirt.

Summer concert

Denim shorts

The summer music scene is all about comfort so we say go casual. Don a pair of comfy yet flattering denim shorts like this slouchy faded pair .

Espadrilles

While a large heel isn’t practical for a night of music, you can get away with a lower wedge if you want to add some height. We like this cute pair of strappy espadrilles in gray, but they also come in black and blue .

Slouchy tee

A slouchy, cropped T-shirt goes great with denim shorts and a pair of wedge heels. We’re partial to this gray one with a scoop neck and front pocket . It’s also slightly cropped, which is right on trend for summer.

'90s Comeback style we've missed

Remember those nights you would race to your TV to watch the latest episode of 90210? Or when you were so excited that Clueless finally came out on VHS so you could watch it over and over again? We sure do. And we also remember the stellar style from that decade as well. Check out which '90s fashion staples are making a comeback!

Jellie sandals

Jelly sandals

These festively fabulous sweet treats for our feet took us through wet grass trails in the park as youngins' and never wore or tore too soon. But they were also the shoe of the moment. They were the essential mist of summer with their liquid neon colors sprinkled with shards of glitter. And the best part? They're back! It was only a matter of time until they worked their essentially casual magic back into the fashion world.

Now, jellies are back with their intricate styles that will bring the right amount of nostalgia back to your perfectly polished piggies. These Marc by Marc Jacobs jelly sandals, seen here, will steal the show at a summer pool party or midday brunch with the girls. Or if you're planning a night out with your better half or group of girls, these jelly Patchouli Peep Toe wedges will sexify your gams right up. Who would've ever thought jellies could be sexy?

Crop tops

Crop tops

We all know Miley Cyrus is an avid fan of the crop top but did you also know that these hottie tops are way before her time? Think Donna Martin in 90210. Or Carrie Bradshaw in the HBO series Sex and the City. Well, they're back in all their sexiness, but this time they're claiming an edgier, hipster vibe.

Try showing off your tummy in this American Super Crop Top tank by OBEY, seen above. Or exercise your right to show some skin in this floral smocked crop top from Free People.

Bodycon dress

Bodycon dress

Does Kelly Bundy ring a bell here? We'll never forget Christina Applegate in her red, bodycon dress in Married with Children. Al Bundy was never too happy about it, but we completely agreed with it! They were fun, young and, most importantly, super sexy. In the absence of the bodycon dress, we've gained many more flattering dress styles, but the bodycon just happens to be an old fave.

This Rendezvous Tank Dress from Nasty Gal is all you need to reminisce about the Kelly Bundy days. Plus, the bodycon styles are a bit classier now, so no need to feel... too exposed. If you want to brighten up the day, add some color with this Neon color-block dress seen above from Lulus. Me-ow.

Platforms

Platforms

Scary Spice and Baby Spice introduced these bad boys to us early on. So did Ginger Spice, Posh Spice and sometimes Sporty Spice if she wasn't about to go on a run. These became ultra-popular in the form of Rocket Dog flip-flop platforms. Remember those? They were so chic at the time.

Now, high-end designers such as Celine and more affordable designers like Steve Madden have brought the height back, and added five inches. These Jean-Michel Cazabet platforms seen above will eat the millennium off your face with their impeccable '90s appeal. We're in love. If the rivers in your wallet don't run that deep, then these Steve Madden Grettta platforms will also bring you back to Beverly Hills High.

Kneesocks

Knee socks

Alicia Silverstone executed this look wonderfully in Clueless as the vapid-turned-not-so-vapid Cher Horowitz. Basically, she was our style icon slash heroine of the '90s, which is why we're giddy with excitement that the demand for knee socks is starting to run high. We're not exactly talking Taylor Momsen thigh highs ... but more like Blake Lively a la Gossip Girl knee highs.

So get your plaid skirt out and your oxfords on! Try these uber-chic over-the-knee black socks from ShopBop or get super serious about life in these super sheer over-the-knee socks seen above from American Apparel.

Denim

Denim

If you haven't owned a denim jacket since 1999, then that's fine. But you'd better head over to your local Levi's store before October. Denim jackets have been a style staple for years, but only recently have they become a must-have style staple, once again. We don't need Kate Moss to tell us denim is sexy anymore. Maybe Mark Wahlberg again, though. We wouldn't mind that.

Get on the denim train already in this fitted cropped denim jacket by Joe's Jeans. You can always take it up a notch in this River Island Mint denim jacket from ASOS.

I recently had the delightful opportunity to sit down with GTDD founder Robbie Bernstein, queen of the jeweled glam fabulous soles, to talk about the flip flops that adorn the feet of women all over!

Blingin' flip flops
we love

She Knows: Tell us about the birth of the embellished flip flop Girl Two Doors Down?

Robbie Bernstein: I began my career in fashion with two jewelry brands I developed. When a prestigious department store did not pay me for a long time with my diamond collection, my cash flow vanished overnight.

I created Girl Two Doors Down when life had thrown me a curve ball, as I thought I was going to be in the jewelry industry forever. So, when I couldn't find comfortable flip flops that were also cute, I took matters into my own hands and put jewelry on plain flip flops to bring my feet and outfits to life. The jeweled flip flops got me noticed literally everywhere. Even men with their girlfriends in the grocery store would stop and say “Look at her shoes, honey!! Where did you get those?”

SheKnows: How did you come up with the name Girl Two Doors Down?

Robbie Bernstein flip flops

Bernstein: Girl Two Doors Down is based on my personality and dating life. When I started the company in 2005, I wanted to create a company that came from my heart; more importantly, I wanted anyone who really knew me to see my authenticity shine through. I picked the name Girl Two Doors Down based on all the blind dates I went on during that time of my life.

I am laughing as I write this remembering those awkward first phone conversations when the guy would call to set up the date and start to ask the list of usual questions. When it came to the question describe yourself, I always say, “I am not the girl next door, I’m the girl two doors down.” It was classic every time I said it. There was silence on the other end of the phone as the men did not expect that answer or really know what the girl two doors down was all about. She is mysterious, sexy, fun and keeps men on their toes. ;)

SheKnows: I love stepping into GTDD's witty slogans -- where do you get them from? They are so cool!

Bernstein: They all come from me. It is actually funny as these slogans will pop into my mind at the oddest times, such as being stuck on the freeway in traffic, sitting at a singles table at a wedding and even sitting at a bar "people watching" while sipping on a glass of wine.

SheKnows: What inspired GTDD's latest collection?

Bernstein: I actually design my seasons not based on trends, even though animal print is hotter than hot this season, but based on what I simply think would look fabulous on a woman’s foot. I also want to make sure the flip flops can be worn season after season, like the perfect little black dress we all own in our closet. My aspiration is for women to wear my creations and know they will never go out of style as they are classic designs.

SheKnows: GTDD has quite a celebrity following. Who are some of its fans?

Bernstein: Eva Longoria was the first actress to step into my flip flops and become a huge supporter. Other celebrities followed including Jessica Alba, AnnaLynne McCord, Britney Spears, Emmy Rossum, Katherine Heigl, Christina Applegate and the list goes on. I especially like to say how honored I am that the stunning Halle Berry is a fan of my designs. Some weeks she has worn them almost every day as the flip flops are really that comfortable.

SheKnows: Robbie, Thank you for this wonderful interview and most of all thank you for the glam fabulous GTDD soles - they really are a girl's best friend!

Friday's Fashion Fails: Jessica Biel and Vanessa Hudgens

Oops... even celebrities get it wrong sometimes! We're telling you why Jessica Biel and Vanessa Hudgens' fashions fell short in our weekly feature. Learn from the stars' sartorial slip ups!

Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel

Here's Jessica Biel in a Christian Dior Couture dress at the Total Recall premiere in LA. Ever since Jess got engaged to Justin Timberlake, we've noticed her style has taken a tamer turn.

The gown is a gorgeous pink hue but the hemline is way too long and makes her look dowdy. When a model wore the same creation on the catwalk during Christian's Fall 2012 show, the dress had a mid-calf length that was perfect. Jess should have taken a trip to the tailor before she hit the black carpet.

She's also overloaded on accessories here. Her Tom Binns necklace and earrings are a bit much. When you've got a rock on your ring finger as huge as hers, you don't need to load up on the bling.

The final verdict? This is a pretty dress, but a higher hemline would have made it look sweet yet sexy. Don't be afraid to show off your fabulous figure, Jess.

Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens

No wonder Vanessa Hudgens is hiding her face here... she forgot to put on pants before leaving the house. How embarrassing!

Check out the leopard print shorts she sported while leaving a Hollywood studio this week. We love animal print anything, but these bottoms could use some more fabric since hers is nearly hanging out.

We're also not sure how we feel about pairing boots with shorts in the middle of summer. It feels off-season to us.

The final verdict? This isn't Vanessa's first time as a fashion fail and we doubt it will be her last. Love how she takes fashion risks with her boho style, but you can't win them all the time!

Friday's Fashion Obsessions: Kate Middleton and Rachel Bilson

Kate Middleton and Rachel Bilson's beautiful celebrity styles made us do a double take this week! We're telling you why in this week's installment of Friday’s Fashion Obsessions.

Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton

The Duchess of Cambridge never seems to disappoint me with her outfits. This week was no exception either, and I'm drooling over her glam gray Roksanda Ilincic dress. The style star sported the pretty frock to the UK's Creative Industries Reception in London and paired the look with a chic braided chignon.

So why does the look work so well? That's easy: Kate has to look put together and "royal" for a lot of events she attends, but the 30-year-old always seems to maintain a youthful, fun aspect to her ensembles. This dress is perfectly constructed and the details are super flattering -- not that this skinny minnie needs it, though!

The final verdict? Royally perfect. Just reinforces why Roksanda Ilincic earned herself a silver medal in our Olympic fashion competition this week! Girl knows how to create elegant yet flirty looks that make a woman's figure shine.

Rachel Bilson

Rachel Bilson

Is anyone else sort of obsessed with Rachel Bilson? Ever since her days as Summer on The O.C., I haven't been able to take my eyes off her fashions! She has such a fun vibe that seems quite effortless, to be honest.

This week, the CW star dressed to impress at the CW Summer 2012 Press Tour in LA sporting a nude sleeveless Malene Birger top with a fun black bow, and black Alexander McQueen peplum pants. To top off the ensemble, Rachel threw on a pair of cute off-white ShoeMint pumps.

The final verdict? I love the unexpected peplum pant! We've been seeing this hot trend on everything from shirts to dresses and skirts this summer, but this is a welcome surprise. And what girl doesn't like a top with a bow? Rachel, you look cute and summery and I love it!
