Celeb Hairstyle of the Week: Jennie Garth

We have a total hairstyle crush on Jennie Garth's chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!

Jennie Garth

Business in the front and party in the back! That's what makes an insanely cute 'do, if you ask me. As you take a look at Jennie Garth's updo from the front, it appears to be a simple bangs/bun combo, but when you get a glimpse of the back, you see how fun the look is!

Braids have been having a major hair moment for a year now — I blame Katniss! — and I love it when they make their way into updos. This week, Jennie sported the look at ELLE's 19th Annual Women In Hollywood Celebration in California. She's not the only star who rocked a fashionable look that day, though! Check out some of my top fashion picks from the night here.

Friday's Fashion Obsessions: Jayma Mays and Emma Stone

Jayma Mays and Emma Stone's beautiful celebrity styles made us do a double take this week! We're telling you why in this week's installment of Friday’s Fashion Obsessions.

Jayma Mays

Jayma Mays

Move over sweet Miss Pillsbury! This Glee star ditched her cardigans and ankle-grazing skirts and showed off her sexy side in a gorgeous blue number this week. Where did she sport this fab look? At ELLE's 19th Annual Women In Hollywood Celebration in California.

Peplum invaded our fashion lives this summer and it's really going nowhere this fall! The beautiful blue hue is a perfect transitional shade for these awkward in between months, and the beauty of a peplum is its ability to create curves for tiny gals like Jayma. Doesn't she look fab?

The final verdict? Jayma looks simply stunning! She kept her accessories fun yet colorful and rocked a casual 'do to offset the vibrant ensemble. Well done!

Emma Stone

Emma Stone

So I'm kind of obsessed with Emma Stone, aren't you? The hot young star never ceases to impress me with her up and coming ensembles, and this week she rocked yet another adorable look at the same event as Jayma.

Can we take a minute to admire this beautiful Valentino dress? Emma is rocking two major hot fall trends here — Peter Pan collars and sheer materials — and yet manages to stay totally fresh. The color goes so well with her delicate skin tone and really helps her blonde locks pop.

The final verdict? Pretty in pink, indeed! This is the perfect "ladies who lunch" look and I'm really jealous of those shoes. Houndstooth pumps? A dream.

Friday's Fashion Fails: Cate Blanchett & Lea Michele

Oops... even celebrities get it wrong sometimes! We're telling you why Cate Blanchett and Lea Michele's fashions fell short in our weekly feature. Learn from the stars' sartorial slip ups!

Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett

What in the world is going on with Cate Blanchett's mess of a dress?! She wore this Proenza Schouler number for ELLE's 19th Annual Women in Hollywood Awards that left us scratching our head and covering our eyes.

The crazy photo print reminds us of a scrapbooking project gone seriously awry, while the raised studs on the neckline and hemline look like Braille. We're betting if you were to read this dress, it'd say "please throw me away."

She topped off her look with Van Cleef & Arpels jewels and a black clutch. Cate usually has great style sense, but we can't think of anyone who could pull off a dress this busy.

The final verdict? Like we said, there's no saving this dress. However, it does show off Cate's amazingly svelte shape, so at least there's that.

Lea Michele

Lea Michele

We see London, we see France, we see Lea Michele's underpants! Here's the Glee starlet hitting the white carpet at the very same event. Lea has been amping up her sexy side as of late, but this look just makes us feel uncomfortable.

She chose a Brian Zimmerman see-through dress which she wore over the top of a bustier and hotpants, showing off all of her legs. We get it, Lea... you're all grown up and you're so not like your goody two shoes character Rachel Berry, but it's nice to leave a little to the imagination sometimes.

We suggest you grab a page from fellow attendee Emma Stone's stylebook and stick to one sheer element, like sleeves.

The final verdict? Lea should stop trying so hard to be a sex symbol. She's pretty and talented as it is. You don't need to try and shock us with your risque ensembles. Leave that to Lady Gaga.

Pumpkins aren’t just for making pies or carving for decorations. Try incorporating pumpkin into your beauty routine!

Pumpkin as a powerful ingredient in your beauty routine is definitely a treat, not a trick, for skin care. Most of us think about vegetables as healthy things to keep us well on the inside, but they can also be good for skin care.

Put your best self forward this season with a few great pumpkin beauty products, along with one that you can make at home!

Sonya Dakar Skincare – Enzyme Peeling CreamSonya Dakar Skincare –
Enzyme Peeling Cream

Price: $85

Some exfoliants can be harsh on your skin and leave small nicks that may lead to scarring or breakouts. Luckily, a more effective alternative can be found in this season's most powerful ingredient: pumpkin. The enzymes in pumpkins act as powerful bioactives, exfoliating and dissolving dead and dull skin without the harsh rubbing and scrubbing of a traditional exfoliant.

Sonya Dakar Skincare, a favorite of celebs like Drew Barrymore and Fergie, has harnessed the power of the pumpkin in its Enzyme Peeling Cream, which uses pumpkin enzymes and cardamom to slough off dull and damaged skin cells and stimulate circulation. The result: an immediately smoother, more radiant complexion, all with zero irritation.

MyChelle Dermaceuticals – Creamy Pumpkin CleanserMyChelle Dermaceuticals –
Creamy Pumpkin Cleanser

This Creamy Pumpkin Cleanser facial wash works double duty: It washes away surface impurities and protects skin’s moisture balance. Not only is the product gluten-free and vegan-friendly, but it includes pumpkin in the ingredient list to help hydrate and refine the surface of your skin.

MyChelle Dermaceuticals products include the most potent natural ingredients Mother Nature has to offer in its pursuit of the highest quality plant extracts, plant stem cells and essences.

DIY pumpkin-egg white face mask

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons organic pumpkin purée
1 egg white

Easy, DIY pumpkin mask

You might have all you need right in your own kitchen to easily whip together a moisturizing and toning mask. All you need is organic pumpkin purée and an egg white. The egg helps smooth and tone your skin while the pumpkin, full of vitamins A and C, helps to exfoliate and brighten your skin.

It might seem like you’re making a pumpkin treat to eat, but this one is definitely a treat for your face! Before applying the mask to your face, first test it on your inner arm, where you skin is more sensitive, to help ensure you can tolerate the ingredients. Wash your face to remove any dirt or makeup, and apply the mask starting from the chin and working your way up, avoiding your eyes.

1

Step 1

Add the egg white to a small bowl and whip with a whisk.

homemade-pumpkin-egg-mask-1.jpg

2

Step 2

Mix the pumpkin with the egg white and mix well until smooth.

3

Step 3

Pull your hair away from your face and apply the mixture to clean skin. The mask will be slightly runny.

4

Step 4

Find a spot where you can relax with the mask on your face for about 15 minutes.

Gently wash off the mask with warm water, either in the shower or with a soft cloth.

'Tis the season to incorporate pumpkin into your skin care!

3 Pleasing prints you'll love!

Future fashion historians will remember 2012 as a year that brought us a multitude of prints and a mix of all sorts of patterns, textures and colors. If you love prints, then this season is your style nirvana. I'm about to unleash three of my favorite print trends for fall, because you guessed it, this is my pick as favorite trend of the week!

Now remember, if you're hesitant about wearing prints, you can bring them into your style in small doses, with accessories. But if you're like me and you want to dive in head first, then you'll want to go for bigger statement pieces like dresses, trousers and tops.

Trendspotting with Jill Laine: Prints you'll fall for

Jill is about to unleash 3 of her favorite print trends for fall.

Our pick: Kirna Zabete for Target floral dress

Feisty florals

This fall, we're continuing the floral theme from spring, though now florals are edgier with darker backgrounds and richer colors. This is great news for the 99 percent of us that are on a budget, as this classic print just keeps rolling over season to season. Want to get crazy? Mix your floral prints with a pinstriped menswear piece for a look that is insanely chic.

Our pick: Kirna Zabete for Target floral dress

Indian bomber jacket

Baroque brocade

This print or pattern is so refined and rich, think Catherine the Great or Marie Antoinette! You'll see this opulent print with gold or metallic thread, because for brocade it's all about the glamour. Layer your brocade with a broken-in denim or chambray to keep your look modern and downtown as opposed to overdone.

Our pick: Indian bomber jacket

Horse print blouse

Equine excess

True story, as a child I drew pictures of ponies and horses nonstop. My parents never got the hint, so I remained pony-less all throughout my childhood. Fast forward to fall 2012, with equine prints all the rage. I'm so excited for this trend, as it allows me to celebrate my love for all things equestrian. I'm planning on layering my horse delights: a print sweater with horse bit jewelry and even a horse hair belt. Whoa!

Our pick: Horse print blouse

Now if these prints don't excite you like they do me, there are other honorable mentions for you to fall for, such as houndstooth, paisley, animal prints including leopard and python, and our classic friend, stripes!

Tell us

So there you have it, SK Style Watchers! Three amazing, not to be missed prints for your style this season. What print is your favorite? Leave me a comment below — I love to hear from you! Thanks for watching, and for SheKnows Style, I'm Jill Laine.

Ghoulishly gorgeous Halloween makeup: Sonia Kashuk shares her tips

Halloween is one of those amazing days where fashionistas everywhere are free to dress as crazy as they want. It's also a day when we can have a lot of fun with our makeup, without risking looking like a drag queen. To help get tips for rocking the perfect Halloween makeup look, I turned to Sonia Kashuk, makeup artist and founder of Sonia Kashuk Beauty.

Scary beauty!

SheKnows: Women love their makeup, but it can be expensive! What are the top must-haves a gal needs to have in her makeup bag to create a great standout Halloween makeup look?

Sonia Kashuk: A liquid liner — you can create tons of costumey looks with this miracle product. From cat whiskers to a super-hero eye mask, it’s like a marker for the face!

SheKnows: Halloween is coming soon! For those beauty addicts freaking out because they have no idea what they'd like to be for the holiday, what are some simple yet classic looks they could create with what they already have in their makeup bags?

Kashuk: Since '50s glam has been big in recent trends, any retro makeup is pretty easy to achieve with everyday makeup products. Go with winged liner, false lashes, arched brows and red lips, adding a beauty mark with a brow pencil for a perfect sexy Marilyn Monroe. Or nix the beauty mark and swap in fuller brows, you’re set to be the lovely Audrey Hepburn — just add a black shift dress with white long gloves and let your wardrobe do the rest!

SheKnows: A lot of women go from work to a Halloween party, with little to no time in between to create elaborate makeup looks. What tips do you have for them on how to create a look with impact but one that doesn't take them too much time?

Kashuk: A wig is a great accessory that can really transform an entire look in no time.

Taylor Swift
Jennifer Lawrence
Emily VanCamp

SheKnows: Just for fun, let's take three hot young celebs of the moment. What kind of a makeup look would you love to see them in for Halloween? Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lawrence , Emily VanCamp .

Kashuk: Taylor Swift is always so polished and sweet, so I would love to see her in a sinister costume like an evil witch with a smoky eye and black lip.

Jennifer is freshly brunette, so it would be fun if she incorporated that into her costume such as Cleopatra — that graphic Egyptian liner would be stunning with her eyes.

It would be nice for Emily to play off her naturally fair skin, so Snow White would be great for her, plus the innocence of the character is a fun juxtaposition of the fierce Amanda Clarke.

SheKnows: Using your line as inspiration, what's one hot trendy look you'd love to create?

Satin Luxe Lip Color with SPF 16 in Plum Wine

Kashuk: For fall I launched a beautiful burgundy lipstick called Plum Wine. The dark sexiness of this vampy shade would be amazing to recreate a sultry '20s flapper look.

Start by creating a flawless skin base with a primer, concealer and foundation. Next create a super smoky eye with dark grays and intense blacks. Begin with a kohl liner in the upper and lower waterline, using a brush to smudge out color into the lashline. Then add a layer of dark gray over the lid, blending up and out creating a gradation of color towards the brow.

Finish with full false lashes for extra drama and sex appeal. The brows are next, which were dangerously thin during this time, so you may need to use some concealer or special effects makeup to cover up a naturally thick brow. Once concealed, retrace the eyebrow using either a pencil or cream/powder with an angled brush in a thin, curved shape that arches high in the center.

Last but not least, complete the look with my Satin Luxe Lip Color with SPF 16 in Plum Wine. First apply a plum lip pencil, drawing the lips in a bow shape reminiscent of the time, and follow using a lip brush to apply the lipstick for control.

If you happen to get outside of the lines, use a concealer with a brush to cover up any mistakes. Add a short black bob wig and a fabulous flapper dress with some pearls and you are ready to go!

There's nothing temp about MAC's new "Office Hours" collection which gives you every reason to wear makeup for a long time without worrying about budging and smudging. As for the new Marilyn Monroe collection? Va va voom!

Makeup for the workplace? That happened decades ago. But makeup that really stays budge proof throughout the work day? Not a lot of brands can say they do that: MAC's new Office Hours collection certainly can.

The Office Hours Collection

There's nothing temporary about this collection, and here's why we love it.

Pro Longwear has taken the word "temporary" out of makeup vocabulary. With Pro Longwear Lipglass, Eyeshadows and Blush, the Office Hours collection comes in the following shades:

Pro Longwear Lipglass Pro Longwear Lipglass

  • Everlasting Nude Mid-tone warm nude
  • Patience Please Light pink-blue
  • Long Love Love Light cool pink

Bottom line

electric cool
MAC's Electric Cool Collection Eyeshadow Swatches in Backlit, Fashion Circuit, Back to Blue

All in all, it's a very pink collection, with lipglass shades ranging from the warm nudes to the neutral rose. The range of shades is also ideal for women of all skin tones. Best of all, the lipglass goes on nice and thick and stays true to color for a very long time!

The eyeshadows, too, are predominantly hues of rose and gray blues, which are fast becoming must-have shades for fall. They're definitely more matte than sparkly . We also love the fact that these shades are innately office wearable: nothing Dame Edna-ish about them at all.

In particular, Forever Rose is a charming lipglass shade to wear on all skin tones, and is decidedly fresh .

MAC's Office Hours is available online and in stores starting Sept. 6.

If you're looking for something a bit more risque than Office Hours, then look no further than the new Marilyn Monroe collection from MAC, which is all about pure platinum Hollywood glamour and a nod to the 50th anniversary of her death.

The star product in this collection could well be the lipsticks and the gorgeous Beauty Powder, which serves as a way to set the makeup as well as to highlight the complexion. We're loving all the nail lacquers too, especially the Stage Red, a dark berry red that's so classic yet so modern. Exactly the way MM would have wanted it.

Padma talks beauty
& style

Gorgeous Bravo star Padma Lakshmi sits down with us to chat about her red carpet style, what we can expect from the new season of Top Chef and her simple beauty routine you can do with your next room service delivery. Seriously!

Lakshmi, sipping a heavenly-looking espresso drink in honor of her Nespresso U partnership, practically glimmered under our camera lights — her wavy brown hair, perfect makeup and sexy leopard dress could stop anyone dead in their tracks. We’ll admit, we stared blankly at her beauty for a good 30 seconds — even though she claimed she was on a new weight loss routine after wrapping up the latest Top Chef. .

Only a few days after her major Emmy moment, Lakshmi couldn’t wait to talk about her striking orange gown and her beauty and style secrets.

Padma Lakshmi at the EmmysSheKnows: We loved your Monique Lhuillier dress! How did you go about picking that bold color?

Lakshmi: It was actually one of the first dresses I tried on, and I didn’t try that many on. I was heavier, so I wanted something that would accentuate my curves — I didn’t want to try and hide that.

SheKnows: What was your beauty routine leading up to the red carpet?

Lakshmi: I took an hour for hair, an hour for makeup — and that was it. I kept it really simple. The dress was so beautiful, it didn’t need much.

"I took an hour for hair, an hour for makeup — and that was it."

SheKnows: What is your beauty routine off camera?

Lakshmi: I have to say, the biggest thing I wear is sunblock. I have dark skin, and I don’t tan evenly, but I tan easily, so I try to keep sunblock on as much as I can. However, it does tend to clog your pores, so I do very simple things. I put tea tree oil in a big pot of boiling water, I put a towel over my head and I use that to clean my pores. Then I use ice water to close my pores before I put any moisturizer on at night, or any sunblock on in the day — that helps keep my skin clear.

I think simple remedies are the way to go because you always have access to them. Another one I use is honey. Even when I’m traveling or on the set of Top Chef , I can always find that on my room service tray, and I use that on dry skin to pull the impurities out of the pores. That suction and sticky/gooey of the honey will pull out all of the bacteria in the pores, and then you just put your head in the shower and it all washes away.

SheKnows: What are the five pieces every woman needs in her closet?

Lakshmi: I think two pairs of jeans — one wide leg and one skinny. One black dress, and also a black jumpsuit that fits well, a comfortable pair of shoes that can go from day to night and one cocktail dress, not in black. Everyone wears black, and it just gets boring. I think a beautiful winter white, or a fantastic jewel tone, like purple is another way to stand out. SheKnows: What can we expect from the new season of Top Chef: Seattle?

Lakshmi: I didn’t know what to expect because I’ve never spent any time in Seattle, but it’s so beautiful. That part of the country is so lush, and they are really big foodies out there. We were very lucky. We had a lot of amazing people come on the show, and we had an abundance of a bunch of different food products that were local that really formed the season.

Salma talks beauty

Hot mama Salma dishes why she created her makeup line and how she makes her daughter Valentina appreciate her own beauty.

Think celebrities are born with perfect skin? Think again. Bombshell Salma Hayek has a flawless face these days, but admits she struggled with bad acne in her 20s.

Today, the 46-year-old actress credits her camera-ready complexion to religious use of her Nuance Salma Hayek product line, which is formulated with ingredients used in her native Mexico.

"I knew I had herbs and things that nobody was using in the States or Europe," Salma tells SheKnows. "There is a key ingredient that is in a lot of my things. It's called tepezcohuite."

Tepezcohuite was commonly used in hospitals in Mexico on burn victims to regenerate cells, according to Salma, who's currently starring in Here Comes the Boom. "It's not a myth," the actress adds, "It's been proven for years and years!"

"I have the most sensitive skin you can imagine," she tells SheKnows. "My Wild Lime Exfoliator is one of my favorite products because it doesn't irritate your skin. You can go out into the sun without any hesitation and you see results with one application. Immediately, your skin looks softer and brighter."

Salma's Nuance line

Salma's Nuance line, which is available at CVS, was actually inspired by her grandmother. "My grandmother was an alchemist," she explains. "She would mix her beauty knowledge and make her own creams in the kitchen. I wanted to make sure that every woman could afford to look and feel beautiful and that their cream was as good or better than [the creams of] the ones who had a lot of money."

"I wanted to make sure that every woman could afford to look and feel beautiful and that their cream was as good or better than the ones who had a lot of money."

One of Salma's main priorities these days is making sure her own 4-year-old daughter Valentina feels beautiful, too. "It's funny because she is getting into this thing where she looks into the mirror and says 'I'm not beautiful today.' Out of desperation, I came up with something that I think everyone can use."

"I said to her, 'You have got to stop saying that because beauty is getting really sad. If she doesn't feel loved and appreciated for what she does for you, one day she is going to go. You have to apologize to your beauty for being rude to her. It made so much sense to think of beauty as somebody that lives inside of you that is just trying her best. You have to help her feel good."

Good advice no matter what your age, right?

Why you should own "fat" clothes and more style tips from Janice Min

So how do Hollywood moms bounce back after pregnancy? Editorial Director of The Hollywood Reporter and author of the new book How to Look Hot in a Minivan Janice Min set out for some answers. Here's what she learned about "fat" clothes, facial serums and looking great even when you're exhausted.

How to look hot in a minivan

So how do Hollywood moms bounce back after pregnancy? Janice Min, Editorial Director of The Hollywood Reporter and author of the new book How to Look Hot in a Minivan, set out for some answers. Here's what she learned about "fat" clothes, facial serums and looking great even when you're exhausted.

SheKnows: What is the oddest beauty trick you’ve ever tried in order to cut corners on a rushed morning?

Janice Min: Instead of drying my hair before I leave, I've rolled down my window with my hair wet to try to let the wind dry it for a tousled "beachy" look. Um, it has never worked once.

SheKnows: What is your stance on “the glow?” A mom beauty myth or is there a sliver of truth to it?

Janice Min: I have had the pregnant fat face, zitty face and exhausted face, but probably never the glow. But I do believe others do get a glow. The beauty chapter in my book discusses how pregnancy is almost like the best oxygen facial you could receive because of the increased blood flow when you're expecting. For older moms, especially, pregnancy sometimes can create a fullness in your face that no amount of fillers from the dermatologist could ever fabricate.

Janice Min's favorite productsSheKnows: Name three to five products that are your go to, use-no-matter-what products.

Janice Min: My Shiseido eyelash curler, Retin-A and right now I'm completely loving my Origins Plantscription anti-aging serum. Serums have changed my skin completely. The dermatologists in my book say you are crazy not to use one.

SheKnows: The best beauty advice you’ve ever received?

Janice Min: Stop washing your hair every day. My hairstylist here in LA told me to cut it out since my hair was seeming dry. Life suddenly became better. I had more time, my color lasted longer and I could stop pretending I actually enjoyed styling my hair while trying to pack lunches at the same time.

Also, my book answers a question I had wanted answered for a long time: When should you spend money on department store makeup, and when is drugstore makeup fine? I now know the answer! I loved learning that some products in the drugstore are actually better, and the book tells you which ones they are.

SheKnows: What's the best fashion advice you’ve ever received?

"Stop fighting it. We all need a few pieces of 'fat' clothes in our closet."

Janice Min: Buy a size up when you need it. Even if the label says size four but you look like size 14 in it, you're not tricking anyone. Seriously. Spanx creator Sara Blakely says in my book that even she — despite all her fat-cinching products — bought larger-sized clothing after giving birth. There's a limit to what we can fake.

After I gave birth, I bought a few baggier pieces of clothing and wore them to pieces. I didn't spend a lot of money on them, and people were probably wondering why I was always wearing the same things, but it worked. Larges sizes are also useful to have around when your weight fluctuates even if your kids are older. If you're asking someone to help zip you into your clothes, stop fighting it. We all need a few pieces of "fat" clothes in our closet.

SheKnows: How do you make a 9-5 wardrobe last from 5-9?

Janice Min: Wear something sleeveless to work with a jacket on top. Take off the jacket at night, add a statement necklace and bring a pair of your sexiest shoes. Keep a little makeup kit handy to add either a dramatic lip or a dramatic eye, but not both.

"If you had a great body before, chances are you will afterwards, too."

SheKnows: What are one or two pick-me-up tricks that you use to look great even when you’re exhausted?

Janice Min: If I really feel and look haggard, I'll stop in to my local Drybar out here for a $35 blowout. It lasts for days, and frankly, I feel like good hair goes a long way in hiding a bad-face day. If my face is droopy, at least my hair won't be. Also, concealer. Always. I'll use it under the eye and on ruddy parts of my face. It can make it look like you slept eight hours instead of four.

How to Look Hot in a MinivanSheKnows: After writing How to Look Hot in a Minivan, what’s the most surprising thing you learned about how Hollywood really bounces back to skinny and beautiful after giving birth?

Janice Min: Genetics are a huge part of why celebrities bounce back more quickly than most other women. As one doctor in the book says, if you had a great body before, and were in shape before giving birth, chances are you will be afterwards too. That said, not all of Hollywood is like Gisele.

Most new moms here struggle too, but they put in more time and effort from the outset into getting back into shape because, let's face it, their jobs are to be hot and sell the fantasy of celebrity. Luckily, these same pros that the celebrity moms rely on to help them bounce back talked to me for my book. Their advice is sane and doable — and free — for real moms everywhere.

Style mavens Nicole Richie, Kristin Cavallari and Katrina Bowden dish on their shoe closets and favorite fall trends at the QVC and Fashion Footwear Association of New York event in New York City.

Red carpet footwear

The super hot starlets took over the red carpet at the QVC presents "FFANY Shoes on Sale” soiree, which sells designer shoes at half the manufacturer's suggested retail price to benefit breast cancer research and education.

“This is a great cause, and I was introduced to it last year,” said Richie. “The work and research they do is really important.” Over the last 19 years, this program has sold over one million pairs of shoes — which is essentially the number of heels Richie, Cavallari and Bowden collectively store in their closets.

Check out what these fashionistas told us about their shoe obsessions.

Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie

The designer and mother of two looked radiant in a red laser-cut gown with black pumps, but who actually has the most pairs of shoes in her household? “My dogs,” she said.

Her favorite fall shoe trends?

“I don’t really focus on trends, but I love a great high boot for fall,” said Richie.

Kristin Cavallari

Kristin Cavallari

Cavallari rocked the red carpet in sky-high black heels. “This is the first night I’ve worn big heels like this,” Cavallari said after giving birth to her son last August. “My feet hurt!”

With her new shoe collaboration with Chinese Laundry launching this January, the former Hills star is ready to get back into her five-inch heels. What inspired her new shoe line? “I did what I like and what I like to wear, plus it’s affordable, which I thought was important for girls,” she said.

Katrina Bowden

Katrina Bowden

Known for her role as Cerie on 30 Rock, Bowden knows a thing or two about making a comedic statement. What’s her biggest shoe disaster? “I just got this pair of gold Prada shoes, and I was stepping out of a cab, and my heel went through one of those grates, and it completely tore up the back of the heel,” Bowden said. “Thankfully they were able to be repaired, but I was like, I just bought these!”

Don’t forget to watch “FFANY Shoes on Sale” on QVC Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. EST.

Stand out
This Halloween

Halloween is the perfect time to experiment with colorful makeup palettes and effects. You might try products you would never use or even stumble upon a technique or look that can carry into real life! To learn more about fab Halloween makeup tips , I interviewed Julianne Kaye, Celebrity Makeup Artist for Girlactik.

“Halloween is just around the corner. You know what that means… parties, costume competitions, trick or treating, dress up day at school… the list goes on and on," Julianne says. "So how do you make an impression? Make your makeup stand out. Whether you're going as a zombie ex-wife or toddlers in tiaras, I'm going to give you some pointers so that you will be sure to turn heads!”

So how do you get the look?

Zombie/Monster makeup

Zombie/Monster

Zombie/monster

OK, so you are going as something dead and scary. But, you still want to be pretty. It's all about balance. Instead of making your eyes into huge black circles, because apparently that’s what we think dead and scary looks like, add some dimension!

Pat some chrome glitter onto the balls of the eyelids -- try Girlactik’s Sparkle Eyeliner in Gunmetal . It's a dark gray so it adds just enough sparkle to the eye without taking away from the whole "dead thing" you've got going on. Also, add some lashes!

You might think you can't see them under all the black, blood and gore, but trust me, they make a difference. Try Ardell's Demi Wispies and add a bit of pretty to your overall "ugly" makeup.

Princess/Fairy

Princess/Fairy makeup supplies

Princess/fairy

Who's the fairest of them all? You will be… after these pointers. One may think being a princess or fairy or some other ridiculously girly "being" is quite easy. But, that's because everybody does the same makeup. Think big lashes, the pink cheeks and red glossy lips. Yawn. Want to stand out? Do something gorgeous on the eyes like a plum smoky eye. Try Yves Saint Laurent's Ombres 5 Lumieres in Indian Pink .

Then, instead of the always predictable red lip, add some sparkle to them by patting Girlactik's Sparkle Eyeliner in Pink over the red. It will add an unexpected "POW" to the lips. And, plus, when is the next time you can get away with glitter lips? Most importantly, just because Snow White's skin is as white as snow doesn't mean yours has to be. Stick with your skin tone please! Don't take these looks literally; make them your own… stand out from the crowd.

Halloween is the best time to experiment with makeup! It's the first time I realized that I could actually pull off a winged eye. Have fun with it. But, don't forget to add that signature to the look. Be original and creative!

Oxford Pleated skirt

We particularly love the removable strap and multiple pockets for keeping everything you need within easy reach.

Skinnies

Skinnies

Move over blue. Colored denim in a rainbow of vibrant shades continues to be a trend and we couldn’t be happier. It’s never been easier to put together an eye-catching outfit — all you need is a great pair of jeans in a get-noticed hue, boots and a neutral top. We’re currently coveting this skinny oxblood pair .

Tank

Tank

We’ve recently added this semi-sheer jersey tank in the season’s hottest shade to our must-have list . Not only is it ultra-comfy, but it’ll look great under a fitted blazer with dark denim and your go-to fall boots.

Booties

Booties

One thing we can never resist is booties, this season’s go-to shoe. Our newest obsession is this leather pair with a stacked wrapped wood heel . We’ll be wearing these with everything from jeans and slouchy sweaters to pencil skirts and button-up blouses.

Pencil dress

Pencil dress

Shake things up at the office with this form fitting oxblood pencil dress in a wall paper-inspired print . The stretch fabric adds comfort, while the high neckline and concealed pockets add sophistication. Wear with a skinny belt and platform pumps for a striking at-work ensemble.

Getting gorgeous doesn’t have to take hours. We know it can, but really, who has time to pile on makeup when there’s coffee to drink, outfits to put together and things to get done? Save time and look fab in a snap with these tricks.
Pretty woman getting ready

Getting gorgeous doesn’t have to take hours. We know it can, but really, who has time to pile on makeup when there’s coffee to drink, outfits to put together and things to get done? Save time and look fab in a snap with these tricks.

Get gorgeous now

1

Drink more water

glass of water

Are you getting enough H2O? If not, your skin could look dull and sallow. The remedy is simple: Drink more water. Keep a reusable bottle at your desk so you remember to sip regularly, and trade one of your daily coffees or sodas for herbal tea. Remember, if you feel thirsty, you’re likely already dehydrated.

2

Add some shimmer

Adding a touch of shimmer to the inner corners of your eyes, cheekbones and brow bone can do wonders to give you a quick beauty boost. The slight shimmer has an almost-optical illusion effect that helps hide the stress of the day.

3

Refresh with a spritz

Refresh your makeup or just wake up your skin in an instant with a mist of spray toner. They come in a wide variety of formulations, so choose the one that offers the beauty benefits you want . A little spritz can go a long way in breathing new life into your makeup.

4

Get more sleep

pillow

We know, it’s easier said than done, but if you feel tired you likely look tired, too. Aim to get to bed 30 minutes earlier each night , and avoid doing anything stressful before you hit the sack. They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing — it’s restorative to your whole body and being well-rested means a much healthier complexion.

5

De-puff

First Aid Beauty Detox Eye Roller

Stash an eye roller in your purse or desk to instantly de-puff and refresh your peepers. These products are also cooling, which will help you look more alert. We like First Aid Beauty Detox Eye Roller , which smoothes and brightens the eye area, while minimizing dark circles.

6

Improve your posture

Your mother was right when she told you not to slouch. By standing up straight you’ll not only look more confident, your clothes will hang better and your circulation will be improved, meaning an all-over body and face improvement.

7

Open up your eyes

Mascara is a girl’s best friend when it comes to looking better in a snap. Seriously, if every other product was taken from our makeup bag, we’d survive with only mascara to enhance our look. Curl your lashes to further lengthen them and do a double coat of mascara to really make your eyes pop.

8

Put on some lipstick

Josie Maran Magic Marker Lip and Cheek Stain

Feeling a bit blah? Fix it fast with a swipe of your favorite lipstick. We suggest red for a mega-watt beauty boost, but if that’s a bit outside your comfort zone, choose a more pinkish hue. We’re partial to Josie Maran Magic Marker Lip and Cheek Stain in Fox Trot, a deep berry-inspired pink.

Patch-O-Lanterns features illuminated-looking pumpkin faces in the traditional orange and black colors while Batty For You plays up a vibrant purple that could be straight from the set of a haunted house. Spun for You and Numbskull are more understated and give off a creepily seductive charm.

Sally Hansen's Halloween Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips are easy to apply and remove, so you'll have time to try out all five nail designs before Halloween night. Trick out your nails

Just in time for Halloween, we've rounded up some frighteningly cool nail designs that you can do at home! Whether you like stick on nail appliqués or traditional polishes, we have everything you need to trick out your nails by October 31!

Jack-o'-lanterns

Want to give your nails a spooky, illuminated look? Then try this fun mani!

To recreate this look, you will need:

  • Basecoat and topcoat of choice
  • Black creme polish
  • Sheer iridescent glitter topcoat
  • White creme polish
  • Light orange-yellow creme polish
  • Medium orange creme polish

Instructions:

  1. Apply your basecoat and let dry.
  2. Paint all of your nails with your black creme polish.
  3. Paint one coat of your sheer glitter topcoat over your base color.
  4. Using your white creme polish and your detail brush, freehand two large triangles near the base of your nail, leaving a small space in between them. These will serve as the eyes. Directly below that, add an upside down triangle for the nose and a wide smile for the mouth.
  5. Fill in all of the white areas with your light yellow-orange polish.
  6. Using your black creme and your detail brush, go back and start with the smaller details. First, at the base of both of your large triangles, draw a small triangle. Next, at the top of the smile, freehand two small squares with your black polish. Make sure they're not too close together. Then make another at the bottom of the smile.
  7. Since we covered up some of our glitter throughout the detailing process, use your detail brush and your sheer glitter polish to fill in any black spaces that are without glitter.
  8. To give the Jack-o'-lantern a lit-from-within look, take your detail brush and your medium orange polish and outline the details on the face.
  9. After allowing your design to dry completely, add a layer of your favorite topcoat. This will make your new mani last longer. It will smooth out any bumps and ridges that have been created during the process and will also give your nails a nice shine.

Graphic eyeball nail design

Graphic eyeballs

If you're looking for a manicure that's a little more sci-fi, then this one's for you!

To recreate this nail design, you will need:

  • Basecoat and topcoat of choice
  • Burgundy polish for the base
  • White polish with a round brush
  • Red jelly polish or similar sheer polish
  • Polishes for eye colors
  • Black polish
  • A small nail art brush
  • A large dotting tool, a small dotting tool and a tiny dotting tool
  • Cleanup tools: a makeup brush or Q-Tip, acetone or remover

Instructions:

  1. Apply your basecoat to your nails. Let it dry.
  2. Add big white dots to the nail by dotting them on using the polish's brush. If the polish you are using has a flat brush like OPI's, you may want to apply your white with a large dotting tool or nail art brush. The dots look best if you apply them so that there are white dots partially off the sides of the nail, to keep the pattern looking infinite.
  3. Using a small nail art brush, paint on some eyeball veins with your red polish. The sheer-factor of the polish keeps the red from being too distracting.
  4. Use the large end of your dotting tool to apply dots of your first eye color in the middle of the white dots.
  5. Repeat step four with your second and third eye color.
  6. Use the small end of your dotting tool to apply the black pupils of the eyeballs in the middle of the colored dots. Use a light touch when applying so the black doesn't spread too wide and cover your colors.
  7. Use a tiny dotting tool or a toothpick to apply the white highlights to the eyes . Don't center them in the black. Instead, place them at the top right of the black and colored dots.
