Heading out with family or friends to choose a pumpkin? You want to look cute , but you also want to be comfortable and warm. Friday's Fashion Obsessions: Anna Kendrick and Kristin Cavallari

Anna Kendrick and Kristin Cavallari's beautiful celebrity styles made us do a double take this week! We're telling you why in this week's installment of Friday’s Fashion Obsessions.

Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick

If you haven't seen Pitch Perfect yet, you'd best get yourself to the movie theater and get ready to laugh! Seriously, it's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Now onto fashion... The film's star, Anna Kendrick, looked lovely at the LA premiere recently and I'm still obsessed with her look.

The nude Zuhair Murad dress is really like a piece of art, to be honest. Zoom on in and you'll see the gorgeous gold beaded embroidery detail. It sparkles, shines and hugs Anna's curves perfectly. And it's fun.

The final verdict? Anna really committed to this look and kept things monochromatic from head to toe, even with her makeup. And even though she's fair skinned, the look doesn't wash her out. The sparkle helps bring light to the look and takes it from drab to totally fab!

Kristin Cavallari

Kristin Cavallari

Did Kristin Cavallari really give birth a few months ago? From the looks of it, she's bouncing right back to her pre-pregnancy figure! The new mom showed off her bod at the ULTA Beauty: Donate With A Kiss Launch in NYC this week in a black LBD.

We all know the color black is slimming, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring. Here, Kristin shows how a tiny pop of detail can make a world of difference. The shiny leather side and arm panels help make the dress pop and are also really slimming in and of themselves!

The final verdict? Sexy and sophisticated. A nice balance and I'm loving this new more mature Kristin! Just goes to show that moms can still dress sexy!

Olivia Thirlby

We're Obsessed!

We have a total hairstyle crush on Olivia Thirlby's chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!

Short hair is having a major moment, and being a short haired curly gal, I'm pretty happy about it! Last week, actress Olivia Thirlby showed up to the Hollywood premiere of Nobody Walks sporting an adorable wavy 'do that caught my attention.

TRESemmé Celebrity Stylist John D. styled the leading lady for her red carpet debut and shared his tips for recreating the look at home!

"I was inspired by Olivia's fun, modern and flirty dress and wanted her hair to feel the same way!" John said. "Currently she has a great chin-length bob and I wanted it to appear full of texture and body."

Get the look:

  1. Start off by prepping towel-dried hair with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Blow Dry Lotion. Spray throughout the hair, and then comb through to ensure even distribution.
  2. Using a small round brush, blow-dry hair. This will help encourage extra volume!
  3. Create a side part, and then curl hair in small sections, spraying each one once with TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray. This will help lock in the wave pattern and protect hair from excess heat.
  4. Wrap each section of hair around the curling rod and hold out the ends to give the texture a modern feel. Stylist tip: The straighter ends add an edge to the style.
  5. When you're done, take a small brush to loosen up the waves that have set.
  6. Finish off the look by rubbing TRESemmé Smooth Anti-Frizz Secret Creme into palms and loosely scrunching into the ends of the style to add subtle definition.

Friday's Fashion Fails: Christina Aguilera and Elle Fanning

$

Oops... even celebrities get it wrong sometimes! We're telling you why Christina Aguilera and Elle Fanning's fashions fell short in our weekly feature. Learn from the stars' sartorial slip ups!

Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera

The look Christina Aguilera chose to announce the American Music Awards seems inspired by My Little Pony. Her multicolored mane goes from bleached blonde to lavender to hot pink. Ombre tips are one thing but having three different colors in your hair is out of control, girl. Not even Katy Perry attempts tri-colored tresses!

Xtina also made sure she matched her rainbow hair to her dress and makeup, too, sporting bright purple eyeshadow and hot pink lipstick. When you have crazy colored hair happening, your makeup should be simple. Say it with us: Less is more.

Then there's her dress. It's great that Christina is comfortable with her curves, but would it kill her to let them breathe a bit? Skintight doesn't always equal sexy. And patterned shoes?! Just say no.

The final verdict? Sorry Christina, but we don't want to taste the rainbow. You looked great when you met Hillary Clinton last week. You should probably just dress like you're going to hang with Hil every day.

Elle Fanning

Elle Fanning

We thought the youngest Fanning sis was headed to Thanksgiving dinner in this Pilgrim-esque ensemble, but she's actually attending the Chanel Fine Jewelry 80th anniversary party in NYC. Now Elle is totally adorable, but she needs some styling help stat.

We usually love all things Chanel, but this dress by the label is a miss, particularly for someone as young and fresh as Elle. The velvet dress is far too frumpy for a 14-year-old! The hat isn't helping things either.

Then again, we have to give her props for being invited to a couture party and being dressed by the designer to boot. She clearly has the coolest teenager life ever!

The final verdict? Elle should save this dress for Turkey Day or use it as a Halloween costume, but we do love her fresh-faced glow and side braid.

Boot up: Fall's best boots

We’re positively giddy with excitement for boot season. Not that we don’t love sandal shopping , but boots reign supreme when it comes to fall, and we’ve sourced some of our favorite pairs so far.

high-shaft suede boot

Oh so suede

We’re pretty sure this high-shaft suede boot with a gold side zip is going to turn into our go-to fall boot . The rustic yet totally chic boot would look equally perfect with jeans and a woolly sweater as they would with a shift dress or patterned mini. We’ll be wearing ours with everything from sweater dresses to dark denim.

sleek black pair

Rock and ride

Even though riding boots never really go out of style, they’re experiencing a resurgence this year as a go-to style for fall. We’re partial to this sleek black pair with on trend buckle detailing . These beauties add effortless elegance to anything you happen to pair them with.

wedge booties

Wonderful wedges

We can’t get enough of wedge heels. We wore them as sandals in the summer and now that the temperature is dropping , we’ll be adding these wedge booties to our footwear rotation . The stud detailing adds some edge, but the chic design makes them an ideal addition to any evening or at-work outfit.

studded motorcycle

Motorcycle madness

Like riding boots, motorcycle boots are also a fairly classic choice as far as fall footwear goes. We’ve recently fallen for this studded pair made in rich leather perfect for colder weather . Add some distressed denim, a sheer, patterned tank and a bold blazer for comfy yet chic seasonal style.

Stylishly slouchy

We love slouchy boots, whether worn with tights and a sweater dress, jeans and a fitted tee, or a retro-inspired shift, they can really pack a stylish punch we can’t resist. This lightweight, cost-effective pair comes in three hues: black, brown and gray and easily works with the fall wardrobe items you already own.

Halloween chic: Black and orange pieces that aren't cheesy

Believe it or not, Halloween’s go-to hues don’t have to be cheesy. Black and orange can actually be a pretty stylish color combination when it doesn’t involve pumpkins, witches' hats and goblins. We rounded up a few fashionable ways to show your love for Halloween without looking like you’re wearing a costume.

black pleated clutch

Arm candy

More stylish than spooky, we were instantly intrigued by this streamlined black pleated clutch with neon orange piping . Just the right size for all your night-out essentials, this piece would pair well with anything from your favorite LBD to your go-to office outfit.

black Jacquard pullover

Puppy pullover

Love dogs? How about graphic sweaters? If you said yes to both, you’ll love this black Jacquard pullover featuring a bold orange French bulldog . Throw this cute and cozy piece on with jeans and motorcycle boots for an easy-wearing fall outfit.

ultra-chic Diane von Furstenberg silk scarf

Silky style

If you’re still skeptical about how black and orange could be anything but a cheesy color combo, you haven’t laid eyes on this ultra-chic Diane von Furstenberg silk scarf . We love the eye-catching circle-link print in black and orange with hints of lavender and gray.

black Juicy Couture watch

Time check

Add a fun pop of color to any outfit with this sleek black Juicy Couture watch with an oh-so-bright neon orange face . While we love our bracelets and cuffs, watches are an equally great way to accessorize and we’ll definitely be adding this one to our collection.

black tipped silk blouse in burnt orange

Bold & blousy

Kick your at-work wardrobe up a notch and show some support for everyone’s favorite scary holiday with this elegant black tipped silk blouse in burnt orange . Pair with skinny black pants and wedge booties for a statement-making office ensemble.

orange and black plaid coat

Plaid power

Fight the fall chill in this orange and black plaid coat with an oversize collar and bold orange lining . While it might not be an everyday coat, we suggest tossing this one on when you really feel like getting noticed.

It’s hard to resist all the yummy Halloween goodies that end up staring you in the face this time of year. The never-ending supply of candy, cookies and cupcakes... sigh. But if you’re trying to keep an eye on your waistline and not have a constant sugar high, indulge guilt-free with our Halloween candy-inspired beauty picks that are yummy enough to eat -- well, almost.

Halloween is all about the candy. Sweet, delicious, irresistible candy! Here are our Halloween beauty picks inspired by some of the tastiest sweets of the season.

1

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins are one of the best candies around, but when it's time for a break, reach in your bag for Reese’s Lip Balm instead. We know, we know, it's not the same as devouring the candy, but it will treat your lips to a little Reese's whenever an actual peanut butter cup is out of reach.

2

Edward Marc Chocolatier

Edward Marc Chocolatier

Who can resist the pull of creamy, rich chocolaty goodness found in Edward Marc Chocolatier's Halloween pops? Not us, so that’s why we’re stocking up on The Body Shop’s Chocomania Body Scrub to pamper ourselves in the shower and get our chocolate fix out of the way. Smooth this scrub on your skin and inhale for a ticket to a chocolate lover’s paradise.

3

Cadbury
Screme Egg

Cadbury Screme Egg

Ahh, Cadbury Screme Eggs with a creamy green center, how we love you so… While it doesn't taste nearly as good as a Cadbury Egg, Bat Bite Bath & Body Works hand sanitizer is ghoulishly green and will keep your hands free of nasty bacteria this fall. Pop one in your purse to keep all the yuckies away.

4

Twizzlers Black
Licorice Nibs

Twizzlers Black Licorice Nibs

Twizzlers black licorice nibs are a vampire favorite, and if you’re looking to translate the look to your nails, look no further than Ciate’s Caviar Manicure in Black Pearls. The little nib-like caviar beads add sparkly interest to a boring old manicure and are just the thing you need to turn heads everywhere you go.

5

Mrs. Fields
Cookies

Mrs. Field's Cookies

When you’re looking for something sweet other than candy, Mrs. Fields Happy Halloween Box 2012 will do the trick. But before you indulge, try getting your sugar craving out of the way with the LaLicious Brown Sugar Souffle Scrub instead. While it doesn’t slough away calories, it does smell good enough to eat and will leave your skin smooth and supple.

6

Red Hots
Cinnamon Candies

Red Hots Cinnamon Candies

Looking to add a little fire to your Halloween night? Ditch the Red Hots and heat up your bath with ME! Bath's Red Hot Bath Ice Cream for a soak with a little spice. No silly, it's not real ice cream, although it does look pretty convincing. This zesty blend is perfect for fall and will have you coming back for a second scoop.

7

York Peppermint Patties

York Peppermint Patties

Slowly back away from the bag of candy! Yes, we’re talking to you! For a refreshing Halloween treat, trade in the York Peppermint Patties for Lush’s Mint Julips Lip Scrub instead. You’ll still have the oh-so-delicious taste of mint on your lips but none of the pesky calories -- and your lips will be silky smooth!

8

Magnolia Cupcakes

Magnolia Cupcakes

It’s nearly impossible to resist a mouth-watering Halloween cupcake from Magnolia Bakery -- trust us, we know -- but here’s the next best thing to satisfy your cupcake cravings when those urges become too strong to ignore. Dylan’s Chocolate Cupcake Body Smoothie Lotion is the perfect solution for times when devouring a cupcake is out of the question.

9

M&M’s

M&M’s

Instead of loading up on fistfuls of M&M’s this Halloween, try decorating your hands with a colorful nail polish. With a deep red, blue/purple, sparkles and more, China Glaze’s Wicked Halloween Collection will do the trick and deck out your hands in the colors of the rainbow without the pesky added calories.

10

Pumpkin Spice Latte

Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino

Who can deny themselves a heavenly Pumpkin Spice Latte this time of year? We know, it’s not easy. But to get your pumpkin fix in a diet-friendly way, why not spray the scent right onto your skin instead? With Demeter’s Pumpkin Pie fragrance, you can have the sweet scent follow you everywhere you go. Stash this must-have in your purse when you need a whiff or two.

In my opinion, the bag makes the lady. In this case, the bag company made a huge difference in the lady's life. How, you ask? Well, it all started with an idea, and today, we're finding out more about the Cambridge Satchel Company, its gorgeous bags and the woman behind the designs.

Julie Deene

In my opinion, the bag makes the lady. In this case, the bag company made a huge difference in the lady's life. How, you ask?

Beautiful bags

Well, it all started with an idea, and today, we're finding out more about the Cambridge Satchel Company, its gorgeous bags and the woman behind the designs.

SheKnows: How did the Cambridge Satchel Company get started?

Julie Deane: After being a stay at home mum for eight years, I knew I would soon be starting something. It felt right, but the real impetus came from my daughter being bullied at school -- I needed to make enough money to send her to a private school. I couldn't send Emily and not Max , and so the thought of two school fees [really gave me an inspirational boost]. I'm not an advocate for private schools, but I am for knowing what's best for your child, in your area and doing what it takes to make it happen.

SheKnows: So why satchels? Did you always have a passion for handbags?

Deane: No, but I have always had a passion for well made, well designed items that will last. Low maintenance yet stylish, and no, that doesn't describe me!

I had a leather satchel at school and it lasted for years and looked better with age and use. I was particularly fed up with my children's schoolbags looking grubby or emblazoned with a faddy logo or theme. We had been reading Harry Potter and so I told them all about my satchel, as I was sure Hogwarts would have demanded them based on that uniform...

Cambridge Satchel

SheKnows: I love that your bags are made in British workshops. How important was it to you to have your brand be produced in your country? It really seems to set you apart from many other brands that outsource these days.

Deane: Having the bags made in the UK is very important to me. I want to know where the bags are made and the people who make them. When the satchels arrive here in Cambridge, they are seen by everyone as special. They aren't faceless widgets with no personality that have been shipped from the other side of the world. It would be easier to meet demand by having them mass made overseas, but that's not us.

SheKnows: It seems like more and more women are developing their own fashion businesses these days. What advice do you have for women who have a passion but just don't have the funds to get started?

Deane: I started Cambridge Satchel with a budget of £600. I have never borrowed or gone overdrawn so it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg, but it does need passion and commitment. Women need to give it a go. The web means that you can deal with the whole world from your kitchen table. That's what I did and look what happened!

SheKnows: The brand has a great celebrity following. What is it about satchels that you think has made them such a budding phenomenon?

Deane: The story behind the brand has an enormous effect -- people like to know what they're buying and feel proud of what they carry. The Cambridge Satchel has become an enormous hit -- the fluoros were a big breakthrough for us, and they got us noticed, but the design is classic -- simple and timeless. Our colors mean there is a perfect bag for everyone. The fashion bloggers gave us momentum and we will always be grateful to them for getting us out of the kitchen.

Cambridge Satchel

SheKnows: What's next for the brand? Any new, fun lines coming out soon?

Deane: We have a wonderful new color combo launching in the next couple of weeks which is a very special bag to me, and then the Christmas metallic palette is very strong. And then… the new shape!

SheKnows: Any other advice for women striving to create their own fashion business?

Deane: Do it -- don't listen to the people who aren't doing it. Find someone who will support you and stand in your corner whatever, for me that's my mum. What have you got to lose? And just think how you could change your life and the life of your family.

Ganging up for good

The first thing you notice when you sit down next to Demi Lovato is how utterly gorgeous she is. The second? How she's one of those wonderful celebrities whose outer beauty most definitely translates to inner beauty.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with the new The X Factor judge to chat about how she's working with Secret Deodorant to stomp out bullying. And of course, I got her to share a few beauty tips for you, too!

Demi Lovato -- Mean Stinks campaignSheKnows: I love the idea of the Mean Stinks Movement. So tell me a little bit more about it and how you're getting involved!

Demi Lovato: Joining with Secret to encourage young girls to be drama free, to just support one another and to raise the awareness of how serious bullying actually is has been an awesome opportunity. It’s a movement and we’re just trying to get girls to gang up for good instead of ganging up on one another.

"We’re just trying to get girls to gang up for good instead of ganging up on one another."

SheKnows: You guys seem to have some fun ways of getting young girls involved in the movement, like the pinky promise. Tell me a little bit more about that and the other resources you're offering to girls.

Lovato: We’re encouraging girls to [take part in] the pinky promise -- painting your pinky blue... It’s kind of a conversation starter, which is incredible. We’ve actually had thousands of girls pledge that they’re going to make a difference in their schools and their friends and they’re just not going to bully one another, and that’s pretty incredible. But we have the website meanstinks.com and it's a website that has resources for young girls that are being bullied or that have been bullied. They can talk to one another and relate to one another and there's a lot of advice on there, so I think it’s really helpful.

SMean stinksheKnows: A lot of bullying revolves around appearance, and you've been pretty open about your experience being bullied and dealing with body images issues. With that in mind, what advice would you give to young girls who might be dealing with a body bully?

Lovato: I think it’s so heartbreaking to see one girl tell another girl that she’s fat or whatever. I think that’s not something that anyone should ever call another person, especially in a society and culture where there's so much pressure put on women to look a certain way -- and guys too. So I think that when a girl’s getting [bullied] she needs to speak up about it for sure, talk to somebody about it so she doesn’t internalize it and it comes out in ways that are destructive behaviors towards herself.

What helped me is I tried to understand where the bully was coming from. And if they’re calling you fat, then maybe they’re thinking the same things about themselves, maybe they’re going through something at home. They obviously learned that somewhere, so just try to understand the person. And some people you won’t be able to understand why they’re doing it. But what kind of helps, sometimes I pray for my enemies just because it helps shine them in a different light in my head.

Demi Lovato at XFactor event
Demi Lovato at 2012 MTV Music Video Awards

SheKnows: You're a new judge on The X Factor, so how's that going and what has been the biggest surprise about the experience so far?

Lovato: Going into it was so crazy -- I mean it literally happened at the perfect timing in my life. It was amazing to find out one that I got it and two that I was going to be sitting next to Britney Spears. It was just a dream come true. I think something that's surprised me is how dedicated I am to really helping these contestants, especially the ones in my group. They show up in my dreams all the time because I'm always thinking about them and I'm always hoping that they're doing well and that they're doing the best they can do. I'm coming up with ideas for the live shows and so I'm so excited for them. It's going to be a really great experience!

Demi LovatoSheKnows: You always have such versatile beauty looks! What are some of your favorite brands or specific looks you like to experiment with?

Lovato: I love to just play with my hair! Literally, it was pink, blue and green this summer and now I'm really blonde. It's just fun! I don't really rebel a lot in my life so my hair is something I rebel with and just kind of make stupid, impulsive decisions with it that turn out to be fun. It keeps it exciting!

I don't really use a ton of makeup, especially day to day [but] I love NARS lipsticks, especially the ones that look like gel pencils that stay on for forever. Benefit has a really great mascara called They're Real -- it's my favorite -- and Bobbi Brown has a shimmer palette which makes your skin look like it glows. It's really pretty.

SheKnows: You have such a cool sense of style! What are some of the brands that make you feel confident in your skin?

Lovato: I'm wearing a lot of Topshop right now! Everything I'm wearing [today] is Topshop. It's really great and they're coming out with some incredible stuff this fall that I'm so excited to wear! They have something for all body types, which is really great, and things that I feel comfortable wearing day to day, and also for things like today where I need to be a little casual-dressy.

Sometimes there are places where you just walk around and you're like "This is not meant for a girl with curves!" but Topshop can help with that, they appeal to everybody.

"Instead of trying to squeeze into dresses and jeans and things that are going to make you feel uncomfortable all day, wear stuff that you feel great in..."

SheKnows: What's the best beauty advice you've ever received?

Lovato: I don't think that it's something that was given to me, I think it's something that I learned on my own with my experiences. Instead of trying to squeeze into dresses and jeans and things that are going to make you feel uncomfortable all day, wear stuff that you feel great in because it totally shows when you're uncomfortable in an outfit. And when you're comfortable, you're more relaxed, you're more easygoing and more approachable, and you're probably going to smile more.

Our guide to dressing for your body type >>

SheKnows: To feel comfortable in your skin and feel beautiful, it helps to have positive role models. Who are some celebrities you admire that have promoted positive body image?

Lovato: The main person that I always looked to growing up was Kelly Clarkson. She's a Southern Texas girl, which I am too…. When I started getting curves, I was so scared at first and my mom just told me "Look at people that have normal figures, not the girls that are teeny tiny and that's all they worry about." Kelly Clarkson is a perfect example [of someone] who's not a teeny tiny girl and she has this incredible voice and she's successful, so it's really inspiring to look up to that.

Also Jennifer Hudson, she promotes a really healthy lifestyle now and she has beautiful curves. Beyonce, she has beautiful, beautiful curves and she's just confident in her skin. Kim and Khloe Kardashian, too. All these women are healthy and yet they're encouraging people to get healthy and not shrink down to a size that isn't meant for them. It's really inspiring to see girls just accept the body they're in and rock it.

We get the scoop!

The beautiful and talented Jenna Dewan-Tatum may have cut her teeth on the romantic dance flicks Take the Lead and Step Up, but she’s about to break into a whole new fan base when she steps into the role of Teresa on Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Asylum.

SheKnows recently sat down with the actress to discuss working with Adam Levine on American Horror Story, how she keeps her skin so flawless and what it’s like being married to Channing Tatum.

On American Horror Story

SheKnows: I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen Step Up because my wife loves it.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum: Aww, thanks! I get that a lot. A lot of guys say, “My wife or my girlfriend made me watch it, but I gotta say it was kind of really good!”

SheKnows: How did you first come to land your role on American Horror Story?

JDT: I just actually got a call from my agent that they were auditioning girls for this role, so I went in and chemistry-read with Adam Levine, who was already cast, and then got the call that I got it. It was just like a normal audition process.

SheKnows: Had you seen the first season before you were cast or were you just a Ryan Murphy fan in general?

JDT: Yes. I was a big fan of American Horror Story because my friend Kate Mara has been a great friend of mine for a while, so I watched it because of her, but then I got so into the show that I kept watching. So when I heard about this audition, I thought, “Oh my God, this would be a dream!”

SheKnows: You’re working alongside Adam Levine who is kind of breaking into acting for the first time. What was that like? Did you have to give him any tips?

JDT: No, he was fantastic! I mean, he’s obviously such a great performer, and, I think a lot of that really helps when you move into acting, but he was really natural and really great. He just had so much natural ability. I was really impressed. I didn’t have to tell him anything. Basically, I think he was more just having fun with it and I think this is a really exciting time for him to be able to work on such a great show and get his feet wet in acting. He did a really great job. We had a blast. We ended up becoming good friends and we just laughed a lot. We were doing such heavy, intense stuff that you just have to kind of play around in between takes to keep your sanity.

SheKnows: Are you campaigning to get Channing a guest spot at some point?

JDT: No, no. Channing is so busy. I don’t even think he would have the time.

On beauty…

"I use a slew of products -- probably about 10 products -- that I do at night and in the morning. I’m very religious about skin care. "

SheKnows: Your skin in flawless! What is your daily beauty or skin care routine?

JDT: I use a slew of products -- probably about 10 products -- that I do at night and in the morning. I’m very religious about skin care. I generally use Dr. Lancer’s line of products. It always keeps my skin clear and even and [is good for] anti-aging. All that stuff. But I also really love argan oil, which is Moroccan oil from Josie Maran. I slather that on every night, especially when I travel, and I think it really helps my skin stay moist and moisturized.

Josie Maran Argan OilSheKnows: I’m a big fan of Josie as well. I love her work and it’s nice to see her break into the cosmetics business.

JDT: Her makeup and her skin care line are incredible.

SheKnows: Would you consider that your can’t-live-without-it skin care product?

JDT: Moisturizer is just my can’t-live-without. I can’t go anywhere without having moisturizer on and I love her argan oil, so yeah the last couple of years I’ve been addicted.

SheKnows: How do you highlight your favorite feature, whether it’s your eyes, lips, cheeks or anything else?

JDT: I normally pick one. I either go for a more intense eye or an intense lip color. Generally, if I do an eye, I do a smoky eye or I do a little shimmer of color on my eyes to help bring out the green color. If I don’t, then I do a clean eye with a red lip or a plum lip. I like to highlight either eyes or lips.

"When I’m at home, hanging out, I am no makeup, in sweatpants or jeans and a T-shirt. I am chilling."

SheKnows: When it’s just you and hubby hanging out at home, are you more of a made-up-ready-to-go-out girl or are you a sweatpants-and-tank-tops girl?

JDT: Oh, no, no no. When I’m at home, hanging out, I am no makeup, in sweatpants or jeans and a T-shirt. I am chilling. Unless I’m going out on the town, I am not made up.

SheKnows: I think women underestimate how sexy that can be.

JDT: Oh, yeah. I’m lucky because my husband likes me better that way anyway, so I don’t have to put that much work into it. Plus, I film so much and I do so many things where I’m constantly having my hair touched and tons of makeup put on that when I’m not filming or working or going out, the last thing I want to do is be putting on makeup.

Summer is officially over and fall is back in full swing. What’s next for the hair season, and where will you find inspiration? A new color and cut? Only you have the answer. For a new hairstyle to work, start with the change on the outside and you'll be sure to love it on the inside.

take the plunge this fall

Summer is officially over and fall is back in full swing. What’s next for the hair season, and where will you find inspiration? A new color and cut? Only you have the answer. For a new hairstyle to work, start with the change on the outside and you'll be sure to love it on the inside.

Important reminders before changing your hair

Don’t forget to update the colors in your wardrobe. Your makeup palette should be updated as well. Murad carries a fantastic primer for all skin types that also evens out your skin tone. There are three formulas: the dewy finish, the matte finish and acne and shine control.

For a little more coverage, try Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer. It has a ton of shades that are sure to match any color skin tone.

Hair length tips

Karen's fall bob

Changing your hair length can lend itself to great new shapes and silhouettes. For fall and winter, the hot and defining bob is in full swing -- curls and all! Karen Elson displays this on-trend look very well with her vibrant curly bob . So if you're thinking about taking the plunge with a new cut, the bob is perfect!

Karen's hair has all the makings of a classic and chic cut. It's no wonder she's a favorite muse among designers and photographers. In true classic supermodel form, Karen changes her hair often while staying ahead and creating the trends. I recently got to do Karen's hair for an event in LA at Fred Segal Salon/Phyto Haircare, and she was an absolute delight to work with. When I got the chance to ask her a couple of burning questions, I asked her who her favorite photographer was, "Meisel, of course -- we have an amazing connection."

How to get an amazing, defined curl

What you want to do first is scrunch in Phyto's Curl energizing cream. You will be amazed -- you can activate it with heat and a diffuser, or simply scrunch it in and let it air dry. It has a medium hold, but does not leave the hair crunchy at all. Your hair will feel soft to the touch! For a little more hold, use Phyto's light hold hairspray.

When choosing your new hair color, remember your skin tone will be lightening up a bit with the colder months. Try to tone down any bright blonde color in your hair. It's also the best time of the year to go red. Ask your hair stylist if they have used Majirel By L’Oreal hair color. The line has a great selection of reds with color lastability -- since red tends to fade faster than most colors.

Color protection

After making a change, it's very important that you're using a sulphate-free shampoo such as Kerastase Chroma Captive. This is your best bet for making your hair color last the longest. A wash twice a week with this is all you need. Follow through with the Chroma Captive treatment or conditioner.

I hope this has helped you in your search of a new fall hairstyle or at least provided you with a few strands of inspiration!

How to wear the trend: Sheer tops

Sheer tops can be intimidating and knowing how to wear them without looking slutty can be tough. But trust us — it can be done and we’re here to show you how to rock the trend and look chic while you do.
black sheer top

Dare to go bare

Sheer tops can be intimidating and knowing how to wear them without looking slutty can be tough. But trust us — it can be done and we’re here to show you how to rock the trend and look chic while you do.

Go for thicker fabric

Sheer doesn’t always mean paper-thin, and if you’re wary about the sheer top trend because you’re scared of showing off a little too much skin, fear not.

There are stylish shirts with a hint of sheer that allow you to work the must-have look without displaying more than you feel comfortable with. Try the trend on for size with this chic black near-sheer blouse perfect for the office .

oxblood-hued sheer blouse

Button up

Sheer blouses can leave little to the imagination, which is why it’s important to button most, if not all, of the way up. Wearing a sheer top but having it demurely buttoned is a great way to create a healthy balance between risqué and chic. Button all the way up in this oxblood-hued sheer blouse that still manages to look great being buttoned to the top . Pair with cropped slim black trousers and ankle boots for enviable workplace attire.

sheer beaded tank

Play with pattern and texture

A sheer top that’s also patterned creates just enough distraction for the eye that you can comfortably wear the trend without worrying your look is too revealing. Patterns or textures add interest to an otherwise neutral outfit, while the sheer element is totally on trend. We're currently coveting this sheer beaded tank with a tribal twist . Add dark skinny jeans and a tailored blazer in charcoal gray or deep green for a get-noticed fall ensemble.

sheer black and white polka dot blouse

Protect with pockets

Pockets are a gal’s best friend when it comes to working the sheer blouse — strategically placed pockets that is. With opaque pockets just where you need them, you can embrace the sheer top without feeling over-exposed. Not sure about sheer? This sheer black and white polka dot blouse with darker opaque pockets should sway your vote .

emerald green sheer blouse

Wear with a matching tank or cami

The best way to work the sheer top trend is to wear a matching tank, cami or bralette under your blouse. The look is sophisticated rather than over-the-top and offers a simple way around the sheer issue that remains stylish. This emerald green sheer blouse just screams for a matching cami or tank to take the look to the next level.

How to spice up your at-work wardrobe

Wearing the same thing to work day in and day out can get boring. There are only so many pencil skirts one gal can own, and power pumps can take all the fun out of footwear. Before you resign yourself to an office-wear rut, we’re here to help inject some style and energy into your at-work wardrobe.

Trina Turk Bold Resin Petal Necklace in Cinnebar

Add accessories

A statement necklace can easily turn a simple white button-up blouse or collared shirt into a style showpiece. Especially on days where every outfit you put on just doesn’t feel right, accessories amp up your look minus the stress. For fall, choose pieces in gold with art deco shapes or stones in seasonal hues.

Our pick: Trina Turk Bold Resin Petal Necklace in Cinnebar, a rich, fall-ready red .

Rebecca Minkoff Becky Vega Print Silk Blazer

Make it a blazer

Skip the staid navy blazer, and instead, opt for something in a brighter hue, or even a printed piece to really kick your office look up a few notches. If you’re wary of going too out-of-the-box for work, don’t be. You don’t have to stray too far outside of your comfort zone. There are lots of fun, fashionable options for fall that offer a more subtle way to change things up.

Our pick: Rebecca Minkoff Becky Vega Print Silk Blazer . This one might be a splurge, but it’s a versatile, on trend piece that will make any office outfit pop.

Frye Miranda Lace Bootie

Focus on footwear

Even if you emerge from your closet feeling bored with your look, simply slipping into a fabulous pair of get-noticed heels can make an undeniable difference in your overall outfit. For this season, think about buying ankle booties, printed pumps and lace-up heels in fall hues like wine, caramel browns or forest green.

Our pick: Frye Miranda Lace Bootie in a rich cognac and distressed for an on trend vintage look .

Juicy Couture V Neck Cardigan in a vibrant purple-pink

Get colorful

Say goodbye to boring outfits by adding a splash of color to anything you wear. Even an all-black ensemble gets a wake-up call with a bold patterned scarf, get-noticed bag or cute cardigan in a hue that stands out.

Our pick: Juicy Couture V Neck Cardigan in a vibrant purple-pink . Wear this piece over a fitted tee with a classic pencil skirt and your favorite heels to give a pop of fun color to your look.

Debate fashion: Mrs. Obama versus Mrs. Romney

The presidential debate and all post-buzz has centered around the two men up for the Oval Office, but let’s not forget about the first ladies. Being fashionable is practically in Jackie Kennedy’s old job description. It’s not as simple as a blue or red tie and a meaningful American pin, as illustrated by their husbands . Every dress, shoe and accessory choice is political — especially during campaign season. Here are the lovely ladies and their debate outfits dissected.

We aren’t talking
Barack & Mitt

The presidential debate — and all post-debate buzz — has centered around the two men up for the oval office, but let’s not forget about the first ladies.

Michelle Obama vs. Ann Romney: Debate one

Michelle Obama in a blue and purple dress. Ann Romney in a white suit.

Michelle Obama recycled a structured blue-purple and geometric print "Lavender" dress from London-based designer Preen’s 2011 collection. Wearing a designer from a different country could be representative of Obama’s platform on strong foreign policy and unity; the queen and her subjects are some of our strongest allies. The fact that it’s 2011 and not in season sends the message that being up-to-date on fashion or materialistic things isn’t their platform.

We’ve seen this dress before during Michelle's trip to the UK last year, and re-wearing outfits makes her personable to the middle and lower classes. Her color was bold and the print displayed her personal style and outlook on the campaign — unafraid.

Ann Romney pulled a different message out of her closet for the debate. She opted for a gorgeous and sleek two-piece white suit designed by New York City designer Alfred Fiandaca, accompanied by a string of delicate white pearls. The outfit is undoubtedly like her platform: conservative. White could have been symbolic for a white flag. Prior to this debate, the Romney campaign had a rough and poll-killing few weeks on the campaign trail.

The American-based designer illustrates Mitt's goal to keep jobs and expenditure in America. While Michelle put her personality a little more out there, the focus definitely had to be all on her husband tonight. Ann managed to look classy, elegant and fashionably supportive of her husband.

Michelle Obama vs. Ann Romney: Debate two

Michelle Obama and Ann Romney both in fuchsia dresses.

Michelle and Ann's nearly identical pink ensembles couldn't have been more representative of last night's debate: tense, competitive and hard to distinguish a winner. Both presidential candidates got ruthless on stage as they tried to outperform the other, but while CNN anchors were deciding which candidate debated best, fashionistas are deciding who wore it best.

Both first lady candidates chose striking fuchsia dresses for the second debate in New York. Michelle Obama went with a knee-length structured dress with a matching mid-sleeve jacket and kept accessories minimal with a fine pearl necklace and an equally white smile. Ann Romney showed off her sense of style with a short-sleeved textured outfit accompanied by an aqua-colored statement necklace.

So was this a show of bipartisanship? It could have been. Various polls have showed the American people are disenchanted with the political process and the two parties who are unable to reach an agreement, let alone advance the country for the better. But let's keep in mind one of the biggest deciding forces in the upcoming election will be women. Obama is slightly ahead in polls when it comes to women. The Democratic party wants to maintain that lead while Republicans want to erase it.

The pink worn by each lady could symbolize support for Breast Cancer Awareness month, or it could be to emphasize their femininity and ability to relate to women — both working in favor of their husband's campaign and appealing to America's ladies. The nearly identical outfits were undoubtedly symbolic of the competition and what's at stake in this upcoming election.

Tell us

We can’t wait to see what these ladies wear to the next debate! Michelle and Ann may go neutral-toned as their husbands get more aggressive, or maybe they'll daringly wear red or blue. Who has your vote so far? Share in the comments section below!

They’re known for their lightning quick wit, but did you also know the ladies of ABC’s Happy Endings have stellar style? The women dish their fashion inspirations and beauty must-haves at the season 3 premiere.

The women of ABC’s Happy Endings are obviously all gorgeous, but it was their super stylish threads that caught our eye last night at their season 3 premiere.

See what the ladies told us about their premiere night picks, their favorite celebrity fashionistas and what they’re always carrying in their clutches.

Elisha Cuthbert

Elisha Cuthbert

Elisha plays the sometimes scatterbrained Alex on Happy Endings, but last night the actress was 100 percent professional and polished.

"I’m wearing an Anne-Catherine dress and Rachel Roy shoes," Cuthbert told us.

Elisha's fashion icon?

"Cate Blanchett," said Cuthbert. "She is incredible. Every time I see her on the red carpet, I feel like she nails it. She just has such a great style. I wish I was 6’ 2"."

Eliza Coupe

Eliza Coupe

While Eliza’s character Jane is a bit of a know-it-all, Coupe herself is way more laid-back. When we complimented her on her killer style, the actress admitted she wasn’t even sure which designers she was sporting.

"I had a malfunction with my shoes so I had to borrow from wardrobe, and they dug out these witch looking things, but I actually think they are kinda fun," said Coupe."

So who does she take her style tips from? "Kate Moss," Coupe said without hesitation.

And for her beauty needs… "Sunday Riley’s skin care. The entire line. It’s the best thing that ever happened to me."

Casey Wilson

Casey Wilson

Sneak previews of season 3 indicate that Wilson’s character Penny is headed for a full on body cast this year, but last night Casey’s white number was way more Grecian goddess than hospital gown.

The actress rocked a gold leopard Jimmy Choo clutch with matching Jimmy Choo black and gold heels.

Her favorite celeb trendsetters? "I love Diane Kruger. I think she’s so beautiful and Gwyneth Paltrow."

Want to get Wilson’s just-been-kissed glow? "Nars Orgasm Blush," she revealed.

Be sure to catch the entire Happy Endings cast on the season 3 premiere, Oct. 23 on ABC at 9/8 c.
