We're bringing you the scoop on Rebecca Minkoff's SS13 runway show — straight from the front row at New York Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

Rebecca Minkoff's SS13 runway show

As we took our seats by the runway and noticed our girl crush, Lauren Conrad , next to us, we knew right away it was going to be a major, major show. As the lights went down and the bass started pumping, the first model in her white button-front blouse and skinny, slightly flared trousers set the tone for the entire collection — "tropical white."

What we saw

White, white and more white. Watching Ms. Minkoff’s show made us feel like we were being transported from the busy New York City streets and landing on some sort of glorious island. Everything from the all-white ensembles to the pastels with faded tropical prints screamed breezy-chic.

Our favorite piece

The overalls! We literally drooled over Minkoff’s interpretation of the hot ‘90s trend. One side colorful, one side white, with one strap undone — perfection. We hope to see this trend on the streets everywhere come spring!

What to buy this season

While we adore the designer’s massive array of colorful and super-stylish bags, we’re currently obsessing over this black studded dress. Why? You can wear this staple anywhere! Cover the stud detailing with a cream blazer for the office, and then whip off for a night out with the girls.

Here’s what we would pair with this edgy, yet sophisticated frock. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!

How to
hide your roots

We're partnering up with some of the hair industry's top talents to bring you answers to your most pressing hair questions. Up today? Justine Piecuch, a stylist at Boston's renowned Jeffrey Lyle Salon, is showing us how to hide and touch up our roots between highlights.

Your question

For unnatural blondes, what are some of the best ways to hide roots and the best at-home touch up ideas between salon highlights?

@AudraMcElyea via Twitter

Justine's answer!

Hiding roots is the question every blonde asks. There are a couple of ways to keep them at bay until you're able to get in for the big appointment.

Think ahead

Before becoming a blonde, talk to your stylist about what you're able to afford in terms of time and cost. This is important because being a blonde is the most expensive service and typically takes longer than any others.

Look at different options. Balayage, for example, will have the most natural effect. The hair is painted free hand, accentuating layers and other pieces of the cut. Foils will give a natural but less rooted effect and you can cover hair without getting rid of all the natural color.

Then, the most high maintenance option would be getting all the roots totally colored lighter than your natural hue, but in exchange for this effect, you'll be at the salon all the time.

Hide roots easily

Blend the color by either glossing it or breaking the base. This helps to soften the look and blend everything together.

Maintain your color

Last but not least, always keep blonde hair well-nourished with weekly deep conditioning treatments after you shampoo. These products move deeper into the hair and have more longevity than regular conditioner. The hair will stay stronger, shinier and will be much easier to style. Your stylist can always recommend a product that will work best for you! For those who like all-natural options, there are some great recipes to mix up online.

The bottom line?

When it comes to touching up your own roots at home, unfortunately there's nothing on the market that is similar to what we professionals use. The dyes can be harsh for the hair and if you're not a trained professional, scary things can take place, resulting in orange roots, green ends, melted hair, patchy colors and way too dark hues.

The amount you end up paying and what you have to go through will be so expensive and frustrating. All in all, do some research on being a blonde and what it entails. Decide on a price point and look that goes well with your lifestyle!

What's a BB cream and why do I need it?

Any beauty junkie worth her makeup brushes knows there's a ton of buzz this year about BB cream -- the new must-have product. This multitasking cream that once had to be imported from Asia can now be found on drugstore shelves. So what is this stuff and how do you know if it's something you should try? Find out here.

Woman applying lotion

What does BB stand for?

BB stands for Blemish Balm or Beauty Balm.

Where did it come from?

German dermatologist Dr. Christine Schrammek first invented this multipurpose cream in the 1960s. Her intention was to provide a soothing cream to patients recovering from laser procedures or surgery. In the 1980s, BB cream made its way to Asia and its popularity surged when creamy-skinned Korean actresses began touting the product. Now, the cult following has jumped over to the United States where women are raving about the effectiveness, convenience and value of BB cream.

What does it do?

BB cream is a skincare/makeup hybrid that provides the hydration of a moisturizer, coverage of a light foundation and, in some cases, the sun protection of a sunscreen. How is it different from a tinted moisturizer? The texture is creamier than most tinted moisturizers and BB creams generally offer more coverage than tinted moisturizer .

Who should use BB cream?

Tell us: Have you tried BB cream? What did you think? Share in the comments below!
  • If you're looking for good value, BB cream is a great choice. It gives you the benefit of a moisturizer, a foundation and, in some cases, a sunscreen -- in one affordable product.
  • If you want a simple daily beauty routine, BB cream streamlines the process of makeup application.
  • If you're looking for a beauty product that moisturizes your skin and provides light coverage with a matte finish, BB cream just might be the one product you need.

L'Oreal's BB creamWhat's a good BB cream to start with?

Start with a BB cream like L'Oreal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream. Described by a reviewer as having a “soft, silky finish,” L'Oreal BB cream contains skin-nourishing antioxidant vitamin E for all day hydration, and evenly distributes a sheer coverage with tiny micro beads of color. Choose from four shades to match your skin tone. L'Oreal's BB Cream dries with a matte finish, which is great for oily or combination skin types.

How do you apply BB cream?

Using your fingers, dab BB cream around your face, then blend with your fingertips or a sponge. Use additional layers for areas that need more coverage. You should see a smooth, flawless finish after applying.

Pro tips: Perfect makeup application

No one is blessed with truly perfect skin, so we all need a little help from makeup now and again. If you are headed out on a special date, to a party or just want to look your best every day, check out these expert tips for perfect makeup application.

Woman applying makeup

Choose the right foundation

When applying makeup, start with a clean, moisturized face. Exfoliate your skin regularly to keep it as smooth as possible. When it comes to foundation, you have a variety of formulas to choose from -- BB cream, cream-to-powder foundation, liquid foundation, tinted moisturizer and more.

What's BB cream?
If you aren't familiar with BB creams, they are a terrific choice for those women looking for a multipurpose product. BB creams hydrate, nourish and even out your skin tone, so you can often skip your moisturizer, anti-aging serum, primer and foundation and just use one product.

"When selecting a foundation, there are a couple of factors that I consider -- the person’s skin type, the color of her skin and the undertone and what kind of coverage she wants," says Erica Maniscalco, professional makeup artist and editor of On the Cusp. "Not only do these answers affect the type of foundation, but also how you apply it. There are so many foundations out there but remember choose the one that is best for you. Just because your friend can wear a certain brand does not mean you can. For texture, test on your hand. You can apply different kinds next to each other and see how it sits on the skin. For color match, always apply to around the jaw line from face to neck because you never want a line."

When applying foundation, less is more. Dot on a very small amount on your skin -- and blend, blend, blend. You can use a brush, sponge or your fingertips.

Use concealer to hide imperfections

Everyone has flaws -- from blemishes to under-eye circles -- that's where concealer comes in. After you moisturize and apply your foundation, use concealer to hide any small imperfections. Concealers come in cream, liquid or stick forms. For most women, a smooth, creamy concealer works best.

"Since the skin around the eye is much thinner, you want to make sure you have the consistency appropriate for you," says Maniscalco. "As we get older, we don’t want a thick concealer because it will cake and get into the creases -- making lines appear more prominent. Like foundation, concealer can be applied with a brush, finger or sponge. When applying, do not just rub it on, you want to pat it into the skin so it disappears. I also like to apply concealer to the lid so it acts like a primer and holds the eye makeup better."

For dark circles, your concealer should be slightly lighter than your foundation. For puffy eyes, it should be a shade darker. To hide pimples, spider veins or bruises, use a yellow-based concealer. After applying concealer, finish with a very light dusting of translucent powder. Don't use too much powder as it will also make fine lines and wrinkles more apparent.

lipstickGet the perfect pout

The biggest dilemma with lipstick is that it doesn't last. Your lips can look picture perfect when you leave the house, then your lipstick can disappear, smudge or smear before your know it.

"There are a couple of tricks you can do to make your lipstick last," Maniscalco says. "First of all, always make sure you lips are moisturized. Be careful not to use something that is slippery like Vaseline. A little trick I like to do is exfoliate before I go to bed. [You can use a washcloth in the shower to slough away dry skin from your lips.] I apply aquaphor and let it sit on my lips overnight. Then when I wake up my lips are completely smooth.

"Before you put your lipstick on you want to choose a lip balm that has wax -- again nothing greasy. Apply a good primer to the lips this will help hold the product. Once your lips are set for the color, select a good lip pencil -- it can be one to match your natural lip color or a color to match the lipstick. Always fill in the lip area, don’t just line the lip. Once your pencil is on, you can now apply your lipstick. After everything is complete, the last little trick to keep that lipstick on is to take a one ply tissue gently over the lips and dust powder over the lips -- this will set your lipstick. I promise you after this your lipstick is not moving."

Foundation face-off: Understanding face foundation options

$

When it comes to foundation, you have so many choices -- liquid foundation, tinted moisturizer, BB cream... wait, what's BB cream?

Woman applying foundation

Learn more about the different foundation options and find the right formula for you.

Tinted moisturizer

If you don't need much coverage but just want to even out your skin tone, tinted foundation may be the answer for you. Tinted moisturizer is just that -- moisturizer that is tinted to match your skin tone. It's perfect for hydrating and softening your skin while also give you a little color.

Whipped foundation

Just like whipped cream, whipped or mousse foundation has a little air mixed in. It comes in spray form and is lighter than liquid. Because it's so easy to spread, it's perfect if you are developing some fine lines as it won't cake up like some foundations.

Cream-to-powder foundation

Available in a compact, tube or bottle, cream-to-powder foundation goes on smooth and dries to a powder finish. It's great for oily skin and allows you to skip putting on extra powder, so it cuts down a little time in your makeup routine.

Mineral makeup

Ideal for sensitive skin, mineral makeup has very few ingredients and is more natural than many other types of foundation. You apply minerals with a fluffy brush, building up the layers to desired coverage. Once you get the hang of applying mineral makeup, you can create a flawless finish.

foundationLiquid foundation

The most traditional and popular formula of foundation is liquid. You can find it just about anywhere -- including drugstores and grocery markets. You can find liquid foundation made for every skin type and you can also find smudgeproof, waterproof liquid foundation. Waterproof makeup can be a little waxy and is not often as smooth or as hypoallergenic as the non-waterproof variety.

BB cream

The latest trend in foundation is BB cream. "BB" stands for Blemish Balm, but this foundation isn't just for blemishes. Anyone and everyone can use it and love it. BB cream is actually a multipurpose product that has been popular in Asia for quite some time, but has just become popular in America this year. BB cream can be used to nourish, hydrate, protect and even out your skin. These creams are like having a highlighter, primer, moisturizer, anti-aging cream, foundation, concealer and often even sunscreen -- all in one.

Quick tip

If you haven't tried BB cream, give it a whirl and see if it's right for your skin. A product that can do so much is certainly a good option for multitasking women like all of us who are trying to simplify our beauty routines.

5 Essentials for the 5-minute face

$

Your morning beauty routine shouldn't take long at all. With just a few essential products, you can create a flawless face in under five minutes.

Woman applying lip gloss

concelearConcealer

Need to hide under-eye circles or a blemish that just popped up? It only takes about 30 seconds to apply concealer. You can use concealer before or after your foundation -- experts are split on which is best. Experiment and find out what works for you. Use a very small amount of concealer and pat it into your skin, rather than rubbing. You can use a brush, sponge or your fingertips. Pick a shade that is very close to your natural skin tone.

BB cream

BB cream is a multipurpose product that should be part of every busy woman's makeup routine. Popular in Asia for years, BB cream is now all the rage in America. This product can illuminate, hydrate, nourish and even out your skin. The coverage isn't heavy, but generally not as sheer as tinted moisturizer. With some BB creams, you can skip the foundation, concealer, highlighter, sunscreen, anti-aging serum and moisturizer. It can cover pimples, minimize the look of pores, hide fine lines and wrinkles, smooth your complexion and brighten your skin. BB cream can be worn on its own or in conjunction with mineral makeup.

Eye liner or shadow

Pick one -- you don't need both when you are in a hurry. If you want a simple, natural look, just sweep eye shadow in a neutral tone over your lid. If you want your eyes to stand out, apply eye liner instead. Line just your upper lashes. Apply just one coat of mascara so you don't have to wait the time between coats. Doing your eyes shouldn't take more than a minute or two.

bronzerBronzer or blush

Get your glow on with a little bronzer or blush. This is especially important if your natural complexion is a little pasty. Use a light hand -- you don't need much color to make a difference. When it comes to bronzer, make sure it's not more than a shade or two darker than your natural skin tone.

lip glossLip gloss

Put the finishing touch on your face with a dab of lip gloss. It takes just a few seconds to apply lip gloss and you can do it while you are heading out the door. If you prefer lipstick, take the time to use liner, too. Before applying lipstick, line your lip then fill them in entirely with the pencil. This will give your lipstick a nice base and make it last much longer.

Get organized

To get out the door with ease in the morning, get organized and stay well groomed. Pluck or wax your brows regularly so they aren't unruly in the morning. Touch-up your roots every few weeks and get a trim every two months in order to avoid last-minute hair dilemmas. Organize your bathroom with all your makeup and beauty essentials -- products, brushes and applicators -- right on the counter in a convenient location.

Double up

BB Cream is just one multipurpose product you can add into your beauty regimen. Consider other products to save time such as 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner, lip tint that you can use on your cheeks or moisturizer with built-in sunscreen.

We reached out to four fabulous nail art bloggers for some of their best looks, along with some tips and tricks to recreate their designs at home.

Katt Claws: Galaxy Nails

We love the starry, glittery quality of these playful, eye-catching nails and we can't wait to try them out for ourselves.

Polishes:

  • Seche Vite - Top Coat
  • Essie - Midnight Cami
  • Milani - White On The Spot
  • China Glaze - Turned Up Turquoise
  • China Glaze - Purple Panic
  • CND Effects - Silver Sparkling

Directions:

  1. Paint your nails with your base color . Dark colors are always preferable, like black or dark purple.
  2. Sponge some white in random areas around each nail, starting in the corners and working toward the middle.
  3. Sponge China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise partially over the white. Leave a bit of white showing for the next step.
  4. Over the white that's left, sponge on China Glaze Purple Panic. Overlap slightly with the turquoise for better blending.
  5. Next, add CND Effects Silver Sparkling over any base color still showing.
  6. Use a dotting tool to achieve the little white dots.
  7. Finish with Seche Vite top coat and you're done.

Tips & tricks

  • Wait in between each step for the polish to dry. If you try sponging too soon, you might lift up your previous color and ruin the whole manicure.
  • When sponging each of your colors, try not to blend them too much. It can turn a murky, unwanted color. The less blending, the better. Your top coat will tie it all together.
  • Don't be afraid to use different colors -- it's your galaxy!

Polishes:

  • American Apparel - Passport Blue
  • OPI Kiss - Me On My Tulip
  • OPI - Red Lights Ahead Where
  • OPI - Ogre the Top Blue
  • Sally Hansen - White On
  • China Glaze - For Audrey
  • OPI - Caught With My Khakis Down

Directions:

  1. Start with the base coat .
  2. Then, start creating your flowers. Add the bright pink color on each nail, followed by the white, then aqua, then blue, then red, and finish up with the army green.
  3. The key with this design is not being too neat with it and making each flower look a little different.

Tips & tricks

  • All of the details were done with a medium length striper brush.
  • It's important to clean the brush out with acetone or any nail polish remover between each color and if the polishes start getting too tacky.

Polishes:

  • OPI - Ate Berries In The Canaries
  • OPI - Planks A Lot
  • China Glaze - Light As Air
  • China Glaze - Heli-Yum
  • China Glaze - Barry M Gold

Directions:

  1. Start with your base coat.
  2. Then, starting from the tip of your nail, make a row of dots using different colors.
  3. After each dot, wipe the dotter on a cotton ball soaked with nail polish remover so the colors don't get all mixed up. Using several different colors makes it easier to keep them all separated.
  4. After the first row, continue adding different colored dots down the nail, overlapping them like the scales of a fish.
  5. At the end, use the same color as the base coat to form a starting-off point for the scales.
  6. Finish it all off with a top coat for sheen.

Tips & tricks

  • If you can use a dotting tool and have a bit of time, this look is doable. The key is patience and precision, but remember to have fun.
  • You can choose different colors. Check out another way to get the look here.

Love Life Lacquer: Aztec Nails

Love the neon trend but not sure how to wear it? Why not go bold on your nails? We fell hard for this simple yet stylish mani using Aztec-inspired designs on a get-noticed neon background.

Polishes:

  • China Glaze - Flip Flop Fantasy
  • NYC - City Blackout

Directions:

  1. Start by painting your nails with a coral neon hue.
  2. Then, simply start to create some random lines atop the neon with a black polish using a fine nail art brush.
  3. Finish with a top coat of your choice.

Tips & tricks

  • If you find it hard to create neat lines, place some dots with a toothpick or a bobby pin on your nail and then connect these dots with a fine nail art brush.
  • If you made a mistake and your lines aren't as crisp as you want them, you can just outline the black parts with your base color.

One Nail To Rule Them All: Polka Dot Nails

What better way to make a statement than with pretty polka dot nails? We love this white on green mani featuring the fun, floral twist of roses on the thumb.

Polishes:

  • Models Own - Lime Green
  • Barry M - Matt White
  • Barry M - Red

Directions:

  1. Start with your base colors. In this case, use Lime Green for your fingers and Matt White for your thumb.
  2. When your base is completely dry, apply the white polka dots to the green.
  3. Next, paint bigger dots in red on your thumb using the same technique. While these dots are still wet, use a pin or a very thin dotting tool to create a swirl in each dot. Wipe off any polish build up from your tool and repeat as necessary.
  4. Using your dotting tool, place green dots around the roses in order to create leaves.
  5. Once dry, apply a top coat to your design.

Tips & tricks

  • When applying your dots, it's a good idea to use a small plastic tray to drop nail polish onto and then dip the dotting tool into that.
  • Be patient. The calmer you are, the clearer your dots will turn out.

One of the timeless components of spring fashion has always been the use of florals in everything from clothing to accessories — and now nail art.

Fashion Week: Rebecca Minkoff-inspired floral nails

Last Thursday marked the kickoff to Spring 2013 Fashion Week and with it, provided inspiration for these abstract floral nails when Rebecca Minkoff sent these floral-striped white trousers down the runway. Paired with a geometric floral print and a turquoise track jacket, the look isn't too overpowering and when translated onto nails, the effect is playfully chic. Follow this tutorial to find out how to get these runway-inspired nails.

Supplies

nail polish used

Colors used from left to right: Nails Inc Caviar top coat, Julep 'Marisa' and 'Blake', OPI 'Color So Hot It Berns', Sephora by OPI 'Hi Def' and 'Private Access', Essie 'Turquoise and Caicos'

Instructions

base coat

Start with a base coat of 'Private Access' and let it fully dry.

Fashion Week: Rebecca Minkoff-inspired floral nails

1. Using strips of tape, section off a thin vertical stripe on every nail except the ring finger, where you'll tape diagonally.

2. Starting with light yellow, make small organic shapes on each of the nails with the vertical strips. Paint the diagonal tip of the ring finger turquoise.

3. One by one, layer on organic shapes of the orange, blue, turquoise and red.

4. When the ring finger is dry, peel off the tape.

5. Do the same organic design on the top white half of the ring finger as you did in numbers two and three. You don't have to tape it off if you're careful not to overlap on the turquoise.

Fashion Week: Rebecca Minkoff-inspired floral nails

When all the colors are dry, gently peel off the tape and paint top coat over your nails. Your nails are now ready for spring!

Step by step: How to apply a BB cream

$

Hailed as a miracle, all-in-one product, BB creams are everywhere right now and the craze, of course, shows no signs of stopping. But how do you apply a BB cream correctly, and are there any special techniques you should know? We chatted with a renowned dermatologist and celebrity makeup artist to find out. Read on to score the scoop!

Woman applying BB cream

Popularized in Asia, the main BB creams here in the United States are multi-purpose products that claim to treat the skin in some fashion, provide sunscreen protection and also function as a primer and light-coverage foundation, says New York/New Jersey-based board certified dermatologist Dr. Rebecca Baxt. They’re convenient in the sense that they can help cut down on steps in your beauty routine, which is wonderful news for women on the go, adds Celebrity makeup artist Piper Cline of Angelo David Salon. To learn how to apply a BB cream properly, simply follow these step-by-step, pro tips for a flawless looking face in no time.

Step 1: Find the right BB cream for you

Tip:  Have normal to dry skin? Try using a moisturizer or serum before applying your BB cream for an extra boost of moisture, says Cline.

Because there are so many options and shades available, it’s important to first find a BB cream that works for you. Some focus specifically on whitening and lightening the skin, while others provide more coverage and still others boast serious anti-aging benefits. In particular, if you have facial blemishes, it’s best to bring in your cream and get the professional opinion of your dermatologist prior to using it. They can see what you’ve got and let you know whether it’s effective or not, notes Baxt. “The success of the BB cream to combat blemishes has to do with the active ingredients inside and what the underlying skin issue is.”

Step 2: Start with only a pea sized amount

To avoid wasting a ton of product, start with only a pea sized portion. Using your fingertips, dab it onto any problem areas, particularly underneath your eyes, advises Cline. Then slowly begin blending in a circular motion.

Step 3: Get full coverage with a foundation brush

Once you’ve finished covering up your trouble spots, Cline recommends grabbing a foundation brush to apply the rest of your product. Put the cream at the back of your hand and dip in the foundation brush. Evenly distribute the BB cream across your face, making sure to blend well.

Step 4: Finish with a setting powder

Last but not least, to help your product last longer, Cline suggests finishing off your face with a great setting powder. And voila, you’re good to go!

The Real Housewives of Orange County’s Gretchen Rossi debuted her new spring 2013 handbag line at Kiss and Fly nightclub during New York Fashion Week and shared her tips for seamless travel with SheKnows.

Gretchen Rossi looked absolutely fabulous Monday night in a tight black and blue lacy dress, surrounded by her 2013 handbag line and new Gretchen Christine PINK collection at Kiss & Fly nightclub in NYC.

"I’m so proud of it," The Real Housewives of Orange County star told SheKnows. "I worked really hard on it. We’re donating some of the proceeds back to breast cancer research."

The PINK collection, which consists of bags in a variety of sizes and styles in a cream crocodile print, also includes a 3-piece overnight luggage kit.

With Rossi’s busy travel schedule, we had to know what’s in her carry-all:

Gretchen’s traveling must-haves

  1. Christian Louboutins -- "I have a lot of pairs," she told us.
  2. A laptop. Her carrying kit has a special compartment for it.
  3. Fabulous dresses. Of the one she was wearing, Gretchen told us, "Lace is very in for fall, so I love wearing it."
  4. Gretchen Christine makeup.
  5. A "really good" moisturizer. "When you’re traveling far across the country, you have to look great," said Gretchen.

As for her incredible bod, Gretchen told us she stays in shape by eating in moderation.

"I don’t have a diet," said Gretchen. "I don’t like the word diet. I just kind of do my own thing."

On her menu for Fashion Week: "Chicken," said the OC housewife.

Gretchen also shared with us her plans to return for the next season of The Real Housewives of Orange County.

"I’ve been asked back," she said. "I love being a part of the Bravo family."

BB Creams and other Asian beauty rituals we’re copying

Asian women are known and envied by many across the world for their nearly flawless complexions and undying dedication to beauty. So what’s their secret, and how do they stay looking so young? Peep these three Asian beauty rituals that are currently trending in the US and find out why Americans love them.

Beautiful Asian woman

Skin lightening product

Long considered a symbol of youth and beauty by Asian women, what began as a trend is quickly becoming a universal beauty standard, explains beauty industry publicist and model Elise Hamamoto. “The latest skin brightening serums fortunately have replaced hydroquinone with drug-free substitutes. I like to apply mine before my anti-aging serum and follow up with an application of day cream. I then put on my makeup,” she says. Both sides of Elise’s family are from Japan, so it makes perfect sense that she first learned from her grandmother to include skin brightening treatments in her evening skin care routine -- after cleansing and before a night cream -- for an additional radiance boost.

BB creams

Popularized by Korean actresses who swear by the miracle product, BB creams have really taken off here in the US. "BB Creams are great in that they function as a moisturizer, foundation, primer and SPF all in one,” says TV and film makeup artist and President/CEO of Advanced Mineral Makeup, Annie Mayo. While their Asian counterparts typically contain skin whitening ingredients, most of the Western BB creams do not. "Essentially, they’re a do-it-all product and since Americans want things done fast and easy, I think that’s why they’re so fascinated by them,” notes Annie.

Eyelash extensions

Forget strips of fake lashes that only last for a night or your plain old lengthening mascara. The latest trend in fringe hails from Asia and is much more permanent : eyelash extensions. Using some glue and a pair of tweezers, individual hairs are applied to your own , giving your lashes a longer, thicker, more dramatic look. The only catch is, the process typically takes between one to two hours and can range anywhere from $100 to $500! While this may seem like a steep price to pay for some, if your lashes are short and sparse like many Asian women, the cost could be well worth it.

I don't know about you, but I'm majorly obsessed with this Peter Pan collar trend. Trend alert: Peter Pan collars

What's old is now new

I don't know about you, but I'm majorly obsessed with this Peter Pan collar trend. I know, I know, the name kind of makes you think of a little guy in green tights -- cue laughter, here -- but the fashion impact they make? Simply amazing. So without further ado, let me present some of the cutest ways you can work the trend this fall -- at any budget point.

The detachable collar

How genius is this? Buy one or two detachable collars or collar necklaces, and you have an instant update to any outfit. You can dress up casual items like T-shirts, give a bit of pizzazz to an LBD or just wear one because you feel like it. Either way, detachable collars are an easy way to try out the trend without fully committing.

The collar dress

I love dresses -- in fact, I own more than I'd like to admit -- and am obsessed with how the Peter Pan collar can add instant edge to one! The best part? You can double dip in the latest fashion trends by wearing a colorblock dress, a cutout number or the color du jour.

The collar shirt

Lucky for you ladies, the Peter Pan collar trend spans all style types. Whether you're sophisticated, boho or a bit preppy, there's a perfect collared shirt out there for you. Here are a few of my faves!

She described her hot new looks to SheKnows and provided us with a few styling tips when we chatted with the designer at her presentation at New York Fashion Week.

Q & A with Rachel Roy

SheKnows: Describe the kind of woman you design for.

"I am definitely inspired by the strong, confident, working women I am surrounded by."

Rachel: I am definitely inspired by the strong, confident, working women I am surrounded by. One foot uptown, one foot downtown, I know this woman is looking for clothes that fit her varied lifestyle. My secondary line is for the younger girl who is all about the mix. She mixes global influences and culture with what’s going on in the now to create something new and fresh.

SheKnows: What spring trends are you looking forward to wearing?

Rachel: I am definitely feeling the '70s silhouette of caftans and wide leg pants. Print-mixing done in an effortless way, printed pants and blouses mixed and matched is daring, but so chic.

SheKnows: What are your favorite fall trends right now?

Rachel: The feminine flounce in the peplum adds movement and accentuates the waist. I love it in outerwear as well as cocktail dresses. I love the tweed, leather and lace combinations, and personally I love the mix of hard and soft elements and textures to create a masculine/feminine balance. For example, one of my favorite pieces from my collection was a capped sleeve T-shirt that was made of leather with delicate crochet detailing. The unexpected mix was very eclectic and elegant!

SheKnows: What are five pieces every woman should have in her wardrobe?

Rachel Roy's top 5

Rachel:

  1. A fitted turtleneck. It’s deceptively sexy and can completely elevate your look.
  2. A strong pair of men’s style loafers with a beautiful heel.
  3. Statement jewelry. I’m obsessed with hand and body chains from Jacquie Aiche.
  4. A day to evening dress. I just launched my dress salon which is a collection of day to evening dresses in different styles and bright colors. The dress to me is about the ease of putting on one singular piece and making that your statement.
  5. A classic trench.

SheKnows: What’s your favorite thing in your own closet right now?

Rachel: I’m loving my fall 2012 petal cape. I wear the cape as a replacement to the blouse. It is cream with fire red lining. It hides, yet accentuates, the arms at the same time -- such a clean, strong shape and lots of fun to wear.

SheKnows: What accessories do you think are valuable to any wardrobe?

Rachel: Shoes have always been special to me. They were one of the first luxury pieces that I began investing in. The right shoe instantly makes me feel confident and sexy.

SheKnows: In addition to your high end line, you have a more affordable line for Macy’s. What are your tips for fashionistas on a budget?

Rachel: Vintage. I love going to the Brooklyn flea market on the weekends. It’s great for inspiration. Not only can you find reasonably priced pieces, but when you buy vintage, you are environmentally friendly.

SheKnows: What trend from the past would you love to bring back?

Rachel: A couple of years ago, Naomi Campbell wore a sari by designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee for Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai. It was beautiful! I have always been attracted to the sari because not only is it part of my heritage, but it is effortless, elegant and exotic. I am venturing to India in October and I plan to study the tradition behind the sari, in hopes to recreate and modernize it for a future collection.

"... Never wear something that does not make you feel strong."

SheKnows: What trend do you think is always a no?

Rachel: When it comes to fashion, I love to take risks and pair the unexpected. I think that you always have to feel confident and comfortable. So, I guess my answer would be to never wear something that does not make you feel strong.

The look: For her spring/summer 2013 New York Fashion Week presentation, the designer chose a nude nail with bright yellow tips. Cute twist on the traditional French manicure, huh?

The line: Let's just call it "surf sophistication," shall we? Jenni Kayne's spring/summer 2013 line combined elements of beachwear and great color combinations with lean silhouettes and separates.

The nail colors: After seeing the OPI nail lacquer Need Sunglasses? on a friend's nails, the designer specifically requested the shade for her models! The OPI shade Don't Touch My Tutu was used as the perfect neutral base to provide a nice contrast with the bright accent.

Lauren Moffatt

The look: Umm super cute... just look at these photos! Retro, fun and sporty are all words I'd use to describe this gem of a collection.

The line: The bright, fun collection featured the orange-red and mustard yellow hues found in the nail designs very heavily.

The nail colors: Models sported nail designs inspired by Moffatt's upcoming collection and wore two coats of OPI's nail lacquer Don't Touch My Tutu as the base. Half of the nails were finished off with a bright pop of diagonal color in A Roll in the Hague, and the remainder were decorated with a diagonal with one coat of OPI nail lacquer in The "It" Color topped with one coat of OPI nail lacquer in Don't Talk Bach to Me.

The look: Dark yet soft at the same time. Ya know, 'cuz girls want to show off all sides of their personality.

The line: The deep blue-gray shade Jason chose for the nails went quite well with his black, white and dark blue styles and gave a nice pop of color to the bright pink dresses in his collection.

The nail colors: OPI's lovely lacquer Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees coated models' fingers, while toes stayed neutral with the classic shade Samoan Sand.

What do your eyebrows say about you?

All about the brows

If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then the brows are like the window decoration. Two-time Emmy-nominated celebrity makeup artist Dee Dee Marcelli says, “I don’t think women realize how important brows are. They frame your eyes like a picture frame."

Brows with strong definition are a must

Marcelli maintains that if you don’t have great brows with really strong definition, you’re not doing yourself justice. Photography makeup artist and eyebrow specialist Elke Von Freudenberg agrees. Her expertise as a licensed esthetician in both California and New York in shaping eyebrows for celebrities and models has made her a highly sought-after eyebrow expert.

Your brows tell your story without any words

"Eyebrows do much more than frame the eyes. They also tell others around you a story -- your story. Are you confident? Tired? Sad? Powerful? Once women have had their eyebrows done terribly wrong do they realize the importance of eyebrows and what they tell others about you. The goal of perfect eyebrows is to have people notice your eyes and you, not your eyebrows," says Von Freudenberg.

Get a Per-fektly easy brow routine

Tending to unruly brows could take up precious time in your already stressed schedule. Richard Anderson, Founder and President of Per-fekt Beauty, says that because of today's high performance and personally demanding world, women simply don't have the time to invest in a lengthy beauty ritual. "With never-a-spare-moment schedules, women need simple and dependable beauty products that can multi-task as gracefully as they do," says Anderson.

That's why he created Per-fekt Brow Perfection Gel, a silky smooth color gel that enhances the appearance of the brows and offers an easy alternative to traditional brow pencils, powders, sealants and waxes. It goes on just like mascara to tame brows without flaking or fading, while at the same time moisturizing with plant-based ingredients.

Variety is the spice of life

So, which is best, thick or thin brows? Marcelli explains that “everyone should have eyebrows that go with their face and that can vary from thin to thick and from face to face.”

Summer has ended and back-to-school is in full swing. In the morning rush, if your skin looks dull, drab or tired, use these tips to energize and dazzle.

Boscia Bright White MaskStart at night

A bright morning starts with a smart night. Start your skin care at night so your skin can effectively rejuvenate while you sleep. Try a brightening mask such as the Boscia Bright White Mask which uses whitening agents to even your skin tone and brighten your complexion. Another product to try is Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial , which combines stabilized vitamin C and rose oil to brighten and moisturize your skin while you dream.

Lather's Toning Eye Gel with Vitamin KHot and cold

When you wake up, take two washcloths and run the first under very warm water. Place over your face and feel your pores open and skin refresh. Next, rinse the second washcloth in cold water and place over your face to invigorate your face and body. To perk up your eyes, keep an eye treatment gel like Lather's Toning Eye Gel with Vitamin K in the fridge and place under your eyes after you wake up to look instantly awake.

Use a tooth whitening toothpaste that also helps improve the health of your mouth, like Colgate Total Advanced Fresh + Whitening toothpaste , followed by a whitening mouth rinse to make your smile gleam.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid MakeupIlluminate your skin

Using a foundation brush, apply a luminous base all over your face. Look for one that provides light, even coverage and has light reflecting minerals, such as Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup . If you are in a hurry, simply apply an illuminating tinted moisturizer such as Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 Illuminating . If it seems too "glowy," mix in a matte tinted moisturizer to create the perfect balance for your skin. Some days you might need more and some days a little less.

Almay Wake-up Eyeliner and HighlighterSee the white light

To look bright eyed, use a white or cream pencil in the inner rims of your eyes. Follow with a dab on the inner corners of your eyes for instant optical illusion of alert eyes. Try Almay Wake-up Eyeliner and Highlighter .

The sweet smell of Secret: Mean Stinks clinical strength deodorant

With back to school season upon us, it's important to look good, feel good and smell good. But to do good as well? That's a bonus. Secret's new deodorant gives you a chance to help stop girl to girl bullying and smell pretty fresh. Read our review to find out why.

The sweet smell of Secret: Mean Stinks clinical strength deodorant

It's always fun to go back to school with a new outfit, a new set of friends and to smell pretty fresh. Secret's new deodorant/antiperspirant, Fearlessly Fresh, has a crisp new scent and a new look. The brand's new Mean Stinks campaign is also a clever way to help you smell good and do good.

The Clinical Strength deodorant has a new look: The original blue and white box now comes with a cool graffiti-inspired Mean Stinks icon in pink and white and words like "Strong" and "Bright" to inspire you to be "Fearlessly Fresh." For $10 a pop, this is a good deodorant to purchase for several reasons:

  • The campaign itself is a great idea. The U.S. Department of Justice's latest statistics indicate that 30 percent of female students from 6-12th grades were bullied at school or cyber bullied .
  • The brand will donate $1 from the purchase of every Mean Stinks Clinical Strength deodorant to "Girls on the Run," a nonprofit fostering girl empowerment and to prevent mean behavior before it even starts.
  • The scent, Fearlessly Fresh, is fun and clean -- totally safe for back to school. Plus, it's a scent that lasts for a long time without requiring much reapplication. The prescription strength deodorant provides wetness protection and you do feel fresher after using it.
  • The white solid wears well and has enough stamina and staying power for back to school sessions.

Of course, Secret has several other deodorant formulations to meet your needs including:

  • Outlast Clear Gel: This gel leaves no white marks so your LBD is safe from stains.
  • Clinical Strength Waterproof: This version of deodorant survives humidity, water and heat.
  • Outlast + Olay: Guess what? More moisture and less irritation.
  • Clinical Strength Sport: This version is for the athlete who keeps going and going like the Energizer Bunny and needs a deodorant to keep up.
  • Scent Expressions: Fragranced deodorant to find your scent personality.

For $10, this is a deodorant I can stand behind because of its formulation, first of all. The white solid is a personal favorite and I prefer it to the gel during cooler months . But the Mean Stinks campaign makes it even more attractive to purchase. So, why not get with the program?
