10 Natural tricks for beating summer beauty woes

Thankfully, we're here to help with these 10 all-natural beauty hacks for the hot seat of summer.

1. Blot away excess oil

The summer sun can cause your skin to produce a ton of excess oil, but you don't need to just put up with it. If you're at a baseball game or public pool, sneak away to the bathroom and grab a disposable toilet seat cover. Use the material to blot your T-zone and soak up all of your excess shine.

2. Chamomile tea for bikini burn

Razor burn is a summertime beast, particularly when your bikini line is involved. Calm the burn and itch by soaking a bag of chamomile tea with water and applying it to your irritated skin. The chamomile will reduce inflammation and even treat the ingrown hairs.

3. Vaseline for pool-ready makeup

The only thing worse than waterproof makeup is the slow drip of mascara down your beautiful face. Instead of dealing with poolside makeup annoyance, just use Vaseline as a mascara substitute. It gives shape and darkness to your eyelashes, and you don't need to worry about raccoon eyes after getting out of the pool.

4. Unclog pores with baking soda

The excess oil and sweat of summer has a way of clogging pores and causing breakouts. Nip the problem in the bud by doing a once-weekly baking soda mask. Simply mix baking soda with water to make a paste, and apply to your skin for 10 minutes. The mixture draws gunk out of your pores and then sloughs away dead skin cells with its gritty texture.

5. Chill nail polish for perfect shine

Heat and nail polish just don't mix. Hot weather, in fact, can cause nail polish to gunk up and bubble as soon as you apply it to your nails. Fix the problem by storing your nail polish in the fridge the night before your manicure for a perfect finish.

6. Scrub away rough heels with sea salt

Flip-flop weather can be a pain in the heel when it creates rough and callused feet, but you can naturally buff away the problem with a potato and sea salt. Simply slice a potato and coat it in salt, and then rub it against your calluses. The natural properties in the potato lift away dead skin while moisturizing the area, and the salt further exfoliates.

7. Ditch humid frizz with essential oils

If you have any curl or wave to your hair, summer humidity can turn your style into a frizzy mess. Calm the frizz by placing one or two drops of essential oil in your palm, and gently combing it through your curls to tame flyaways. Your best bets are coconut, lavender or sandalwood oil for shine and a summery scent.

8. Soothe a sunburn with aloe vera

We all know that aloe vera is a sunburn miracle worker, but did you know it can actually prevent skin from peeling and flaking after sun exposure? If your skin is on fire after a day at the beach, squeeze aloe vera gel into an ice cube tray and freeze until solid. Then rub the aloe vera cubes on your skin to stop the burning, flaking and peeling in its tracks.

9. Fix self-tanner mistakes with lemon juice

Looking a little orange and stripey, are you? Fix your self-tanner mistakes by making a paste of lemon juice and baking soda. The lemon juice will lighten the dark spots, and the baking soda will smooth away the blotches and rough patches that hold on to imperfect color.

10. Tea tree oil to calm the itch

Mosquitoes, chiggers and ants are annoying summer party guests, and their bites can leave unsightly welts on your otherwise gorgeous skin. Calm the itch, inflammation and redness by applying a drop of tea tree oil to the bite. The oil will also help the bite heal faster.
