Don't want to spend an hour getting ready every day but still want your makeup to look polished, chic, and beautiful? Here are tips to help you achieve a classic beauty look in 20 minutes or less!
How recreate a class beauty look

Quick beauty tips!

Don't want to spend an hour getting ready every day but still want your makeup to look polished, chic and beautiful? Here are tips to help you achieve a classic beauty look in 20 minutes or less!

When it comes to being a lady and putting your face on every day, sometimes we take far too much time to perfect our image.

I take great pride in my appearance and look professional no matter where my crazy schedule takes me. Over the last five years of being a makeup artist, I have mastered the art of "Less Time = Great Makeup" and I'm excited to share my tips with you. Think about all the classic beauties such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, etc. Their skin has great coverage while looking naturally flawless and their strong points are brows, liner, lashes and lips. Focusing on all those features no matter what shades you use will help you look flawless and confident for your day-to-day adventures. And yes, you can apply it all in 20 minutes or less.

1

How recreate a class beauty look

With your favorite foundation and foundation brush, apply an even amount of product to your cheeks, nose, forehead and chin and blend out to the outer rim of your face. Even out redness on the face and keep the rest of the coverage light.

2

To keep things easy and fast, use the same brush to apply a highlighting powder to the high planes of the face such as your cheekbones, ridge of nose, bow of lip, chin and middle of forehead. If the sun was shining on your face, these are all the places you would naturally reflect. It adds an elegant glow to your skin.

3

How recreate a class beauty look

Again, using the same brush, apply your contour in the hollows of the cheek. In this specific look, I used MAC Cosmetic's eyeshadow in Saddle. It's a rich, warm matte brown and looks amazing as a contour. You'll see this product again in this tutorial soon!

4

How recreate a class beauty look

Use the same highlighting powder you used on your face to highlight your brow bone, inner tear duct and inner eyelid. This will start to lift and brighten your eye.

5

How recreate a class beauty look

Now using the Saddle eyeshadow from MAC Cosmetics, apply this in your crease using a soft blending brush. Start on the outer corners of the eye and slowly blend to the inner corner.

6

How recreate a class beauty look

Using a gel eyeliner and an angled liner brush, apply a liner that emphasizes your natural lid line. The line should be thin on the outer and inner corners and fuller right above the pupil of the eye. This will make yours lift in an effortless way.

7

How recreate a class beauty look

After applying your liner, fill in your brow with a shadow liner and an angled liner brush and then highlight on the brow bone especially under the arch. Finally highlight above the brow right where the arch starts. See how big of a difference brows and liner make?

8

How recreate a class beauty look

Before you start your brows and liner, get a pair of lashes ready. Peel the lash from the plastic, set a drop of glue on a safe surface and let it set for a few minutes. Once you're ready, pop your lashes on and see how much it makes your eyes pop. Applying lashes is one small step that makes a huge difference in your overall look. You're basically done! There's just one simple step left.

9

How recreate a class beauty look

Apply a lip conditioner to soften your lips, and then grab your favorite colorful lipstick and apply one soft layer before you head out the door. Choose a color that brings out your eye color. I chose a red coral to make my eyes look greener.

10

How recreate a class beauty look

It may take you a little bit of time the first time you try this, but I promise after a couple of tries, you'll have these tips down and can create your own look in less than 20 minutes.

Product suggestions for your classic look!

Products for a natural beauty look

  • MAC face and body foundation - Lightweight, sheer and a luminous finish. This product gives sheer to medium coverage, looks like skin and holds well throughout the day.
  • MAC prep and prime skin smoother - This translucent powder will absorb oil for touch-ups later in the day and will help set the dewiness of your face and body foundation.
  • MAC creme blush in 'Ladyblush' - These creme blushes have more of a creme-to-powder feel instead of the sticky feel. They blend smoothly and apply a medium amount of color and coverage.
  • Bare Minerals ready bronzer in 'The High Dive' - This bronzer is effortless to blend and has a perfect cool undertone instead of a strong golden tone. It looks natural and pairs well with powder and liquid foundations.
  • Bare Minerals flawless definition mascara in black - The wand on this mascara is to die for. It grabs every little lash, builds volume, doesn't clump and is great for contact wearers or those with sensitive eyes.
  • MAC lipstick in 'Fanfare' - I absolutely love Fanfare from MAC. It's the perfect natural wash of coral with a satin finish and medium coverage. You can amp it up with a lip liner or keep it effortless by wearing alone.

2

Comfy shoes

Comfy shoes

1

Dry shampoo

Dry shampoo

See Michelle Williams' new punk hairstyle

Kate Young debuted her new Target collection on Tuesday night, but all anyone wanted to talk about was actress Michelle Williams' edgy new hairstyle.

Michelle Williams

We're a bit — OK, a lot — obsessed with Michelle Williams' in-between short hairstyle. It's hard to tell whether or not the cut will work on everyone, though. We're not really into cutting our strands unless the cut will look amazing, so we asked stylist Mischa Lisikiewicz from Sine Qua Non Salon Chicago for advice.

"Michelle's new haircut is perfect for those with pixie cuts growing their hair out who want to change up their style. One should be comfortable in their own skin to pull this haircut off because your face will be exposed. It's definitely a more high-maintenance look," Lisikiewicz said.

"It works for Michelle's texture because she blow-dries and flatirons her hair and gets a trim every five to six weeks."

That said, it works better on certain face shapes than others.

"This cut would look best soft on a more oval, round, or heart-shaped face and on a straight to wavy texture, because those sides are going to grow very quickly and they'll easily become unmanageable."

"I would avoid this look if you have a strong jaw line or curly hair."

Lisikiewicz also gave a few tips for guiding your stylist to the edgy cut of your dreams.

"If you're ready for the commitment and want to bring this cut to your stylist, during your consultation, I would request an undercut with an exaggerated side part, and a sleek one-length look in the front ," she said. "This will ensure your hair will maintain its balance and versatility with your style as you're growing it."

Now, if only we could get Michelle's amazing wardrobe to go with the cute cut. We can dream, right?

You’ll look forward to spring showers when you have this invigorating body wash to use!

DIY Lemongrass Body Wash

It is April, after all, and with it comes showers! This is a lovely body wash perfect for your spring showers. Lemongrass is an energizing scent that will put a spring in your step!

We used Kirk's Original Coco Castile Soap for this DIY lemongrass body wash. Castile soap is made with 100-percent pure plant oils . It is gentle, biodegradable, hypoallergenic and is not tested on animals. Kirk's has been around for 175 years and is multi-functional . You can use it to wash your hair, your hands and to help keep pests out of your garden.

This lemongrass body wash is thinner than store-bought washes you may be used to showering with, but you won’t mind . Not only is this body wash cost effective and easy to make, but the glycerin will help you retain moisture, and the lemongrass essential oil will give you a fresh start to your day. Store this body wash in a plastic container .

If you are pregnant, you should not use essential oils. For facts and safety information of essential oils and aromatherapy, check out the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.

DIY Lemongrass Body Wash

Ingredients:

  2. Add the grated soap to the water in a large saucepan and bring to a boil.
  3. Turn off the heat, add the glycerin and stir.

The perfect red lip: Tips from a makeup artist

$
0
0
Before I began my career in the beauty industry, I was absolutely terrified of red lipstick. I felt it looked too harsh on me no matter what I did. Once I realized it was all in my head and I needed to just try it, I grabbed an orange undertone red lipstick and put on my confidence hat. I got compliments everywhere I went.

When something is new to you it can be intimidating, but a red lip is attractive, confident and fun. So, would you believe me if I said there’s nothing to pulling off the look? The only thing you need is confidence. That’s it! I promise that any of you can rock lots of different shades of red — some with blue undertones or orange undertones, or play it safe with a brown undertone. Just try it!

Professional techniques to wearing red lipstick

red lip

Use concealer

I first like to start off with applying a small amount of concealer to my lips to nude out my natural lip color and to help me form perfect straight lines. This also gives you the opportunity to change your lip shape once you start applying lip liner.

Shape your lips

Using a red lip pencil, outline your lips in the shape you desire. For a longer lasting hold, fill in your entire lip with the lip pencil. Lip pencil pigment holds better than most lipsticks and also acts as a base for holding your lipstick on longer.

Apply the color

Once you’ve filled your entire lip with the lip pencil, apply your red lipstick straight from the bullet. This will apply more pigment than if you were to apply the lipstick with a brush. One good layer is all you need. If you apply too much, you run the chance of it smearing or bleeding.

Seal it on

Once you have all the color you need, use a matte powder such as MAC’s Prep and Prime or Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil with a soft eyeshadow blending brush, and press the powder onto your lips. This creates a greate matte effect and also helps in prolonging the wear of your red lip. If you prefer shine, skip this step.

Correct your lines

Finally, using a soft yet stiff concealer brush, apply a corrector around the corners of the top and bottom of your lips to create strong perfect lines.

A guide to finding the right color for you

Blue or green eyes

Orange undertone reds look amazing on you. Oranges really make your eye color stand out in an effortless and chic way. Violet-toned reds are also a classic and wild choice for you.

Hazel or brown eyes

Blue undertone reds are a beautiful striking contrast from your warm eyes. It's instantly jaw dropping!

Fair or pink toned skin

Stick to lipsticks with a sheer to satin texture in your day-to-day wear, and choose reds that have more of a warm rosy hue. When you go bold, choose something matte and classic, such as MAC’s Ruby Woo lipstick.

Medium or warm golden skin

You can get away with lots of tones, but an orange-driven red with dewy skin and a summer glow will look absolutely stunning on you.

Deep to dark skin tones

A deep violet berry red is your match made in lipstick heaven. Go with bold berry shades, or choose soft reds with a hint of plum for everyday.

Why Maggie Gyllenhaal cut her hair super short

Think Maggie Gyllenhaal wanted a short pixie cut for spring and summer? Not really — she did it to cover up a terrible bowl cut!

Maggie Gyllenhaal

Michelle Williams might have caught eyes with her short, funky 'do on Tuesday night at the Kate Young for Target launch, but Maggie Gyllenhaal is also rocking a different style.

The actress and mom of two is currently sporting a pixie cut — but it's not because she wanted to chop her longer strands.

"I did a film in Ireland with Michael Fassbender, and I cut it in a bowl cut for that," the 35-year-old actress told InStyle at the event. "It was awesome for the movie, but then when I was home, I couldn't make it work!"

So, she turned to the pros — specifically, NYC stylist Serge Normant.

"I walked into his salon and said, 'Can you fix it?' and it came out looking like this," she said.

Her husband, Peter Sarsgaard, loves the look.

"I think the way he feels about me really does not have a lot to do with my hair," she joked to People. "And I'm really incredibly grateful for that."

She's growing to love it, too.

"When I was about 25, I had really short hair, and I loved it, but I always thought I would never do it again,"the mom of Ramona and Gloria Ray said. "But it feels great to have short hair! And it's nice now that the weather's gotten warm."

That's the glass-half-full spirit we love!

Celeb Hairstyle of the Week: Debby Ryan

We have a total crush on Debby Ryan's chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!
Debby Ryan at the Kids' Choice Awards

We're obsessed!

We have a total crush on Debby Ryan's chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!

Here we have an example of an effortlessly beautiful look! Debby Ryan rocked this soft, wavy 'do to the Kids' Choice Awards earlier this month, and I instantly started crushing on it. Paired with her summery yellow cutout dress and her bold pink lips, the flowy look adds a nice feminine, polished touch.

Eager to find out how to get the look myself, I turned to celeb hairstylist Brian Magallones, who has worked with Debby before. He's breaking down the 'do for us today!

Get the look

"This look is all about healthy, voluminous hair, while still looking young and modern. It's about looking sexy yet effortless, and Debby pulls it off perfectly," Magallones says.

  1. To achieve this look, start by combing a good volumizing product through your hair. You want something that won't weigh your hair down. My favorite is the Rene Furterer Vegetal Styling Mousse.
  2. Once the product is evenly distributed throughout the hair, rough dry your hair until about 80 percent of the moisture is out. Try to concentrate on the roots and getting as much root lift as possible.
  3. Once about 80 percent of the moisture is out, continue blowing out hair using a large round brush. Starting at the top of the head, working with 1-2 inch sections depending on the thickness of your hair, and as each section is dried, place it into a barrel curl. Large Velcro rollers can also be used at this stage as an option.
  4. When drying the front top section, be sure to dry the roots in the forward direction with a deep side part. Once the whole head is set, give it a light mist of a medium holding hairspray. For this, I love the Aveda Air Control hairspray.
  5. Once all of the barrel curls have cooled, take them down and brush your hair thoroughly to relax any curl into a soft wave using a bristle brush. For this, nothing beats a Mason Pearson Junior brush.
  6. The last step is to take a flat iron and straighten out the ends of your hair. The straight ends are the most important factor in keeping this hairstyle looking young and modern.
  7. Then simply give yourself a dramatic deep side part, and run a finishing cream through to smooth away any flyaways. I like Phyto Professional Glossing Cream. And the finishing touch is always a light mist of Aveda Brilliant Spray on Shine to keep hair looking healthy and shiny all night long.

Friday's Fashion Obsessions: Beth Behrs and Jada Pinkett Smith

Beth Behrs and Jada Pinkett Smith's beautiful celebrity styles made us do a double take this week! We're telling you why in this week's installment of Friday’s Fashion Obsessions.

Beth Behrs

Beth Behrs

Broke girl, bangin' style! Beth Behrs was pretty in pink on the ACM Awards red carpet this week in her pink lace Monique Lhuillier gown.

I don't know about you, but I am obsessed with 2 Broke Girls. Beth and her co-star Kat Dennings are so hilarious! But enough about her talent, we're talking about Beth's fashion here. At first sight, the look is pretty and demure, but if you zoom on in, it's a bit sheer and super sexy. She finished the look with simple heels, a casual updo and glowing makeup.

The final verdict? I like how Beth went a bit understated with her beauty here, since the dress is such a knockout. The color works really well with her skin tone and it's just a really fun spring look! Gives me inspiration that this cold snap will soon be over!

Jada Pinkett Smith

Jada Pinkett Smith

Why hello, hot momma! Jada Pinkett Smith strolled onto the red carpet of the NYC premiere of Free Angela and All Political Prisoners in this frothy yellow number that I can't take my eyes off of.

I love a yellow dress in the spring, don't you? The flowy fabric glides over Jada's curves in all the right spots and I love her metallic accessories. So edgy. That bold deep lip is also a welcome surprise with such a delicate colored dress!

The final verdict? There's nothing mellow about this yellow look. The hue melts into Jada's skin tone in such a gorgeous way and overall, she just looks like a goddess.

Friday's Fashion Fails: Faith Hill and Shania Twain

$
0
0
Oops... even celebrities get it wrong sometimes! We're telling you why Faith Hill and Shania Twain's fashions fell short in our weekly feature. Learn from the stars' sartorial slip ups!

Faith Hill

Faith Hill

Faith Hill was clearly in the mood to cut loose at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas in this lacy dress. Lace is a major trend for spring, but there are a few issues with the black Chado Ralph Rucci version she wore for country's big night.

We can't tell if she has white shorts on or just underwear underneath, but that slit is super high! Poor Faith is a walking wardrobe malfunction just waiting to happen in this number, which is cut all the way up to her crotch. We think having a few inches less of leg showing would have avoided any possible overexposures.

The belt also seems like an odd addition and cuts the dress in half unnecessarily. The top of the frock looks messy with most of the buttons undone. Either the bodice was too tight or maybe Faith was in a hurry to hit the carpet and forgot to button the rest?

The final verdict? Remember Faith, what happens in Vegas doesn't always stay there. This black lace dress could be a do if she just covered up a bit more and lost the belt. Her hair and makeup are perfectly pretty and on point, though.

Shania Twain

Shania Twain

Shania Twain donned this LBD gone country for the same awards show, but sadly, this look doesn't impress us much. The singer was on hand to present the Entertainer of the Year awards and wore a strapless short dress that was daring in the front and dangling in the back.

The cut of it is a bit baggy, but that's not our chief complaint. What is happening with the long pieces of material hanging on the rearview of the dress? High-low hemlines are hot for summer, but this is a strange take on the trend.

Also, let's discuss those thigh-high boots. Save those for a night out on the strip, Shania, not a red carpet event.

The final verdict? This certainly isn't our favorite look fashion wise from 47-year-old Shania, but at least her body and face look absolutely amazing. We want to know her trainer and facialist's names pronto!
