Kim Kardashian's vampire facial looks way painful

Beauty can be bloody and painful — just ask Kim Kardashian!

Kim KardashianKim Kardashian is willing to endure pain to get a youthful glow.

The pregnant reality star went through a so-called "vampire facial" on Sunday night's episode of Kourtney and Kim Take Miami.

"I love trying anything that makes you look and feel youthful," Kardashian told cameras.

It sounds like a terrible procedure — and really, it is pretty horrifying. Basically, doctors draw blood from the patient's arm and "spin" it to remove the platelets.

Then, "micro needles are used to perforate the skin with near microscopic holes. [Platelet rich plasma] is then applied topically to the skin following the micro-needling process," Tom O'Brien, CEO of Eclipse Aesthetics, said of the procedure. "The growth factors in the PRP re-energize cells and boost collagen production, thus reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while improving the skin's tone and texture."

But... why?

"The platelet-rich plasma derived from the patient's internal biology possesses increased concentrations of one's own growth factors. These self-derived growth factors are powerful elements aiding in the battle for a more youthful appearance," O'Brien added. "The new trend is to improve oneself with natural approaches and avoid those processes which are synthetic and possibly not healthy. Vampire Facial is the beginning of a new trend that is here to stay."

The jury is still out whether or not Kardashian liked the results. One thing we do know, judging from her screams and tears: It hurt!

"Oh my God. I will never get a face-lift if it feels like that," she said.

Can a pill erase your gray hair forever?

$

Would you use a pill to take away gray hair? Go Away Gray is trying to convince you that two pills a day will rid you of gray hair forever. Skeptical? We were too, so we did a little investigation.

Anderson Cooper

Would an Anderson Cooper in any other hair color be as sweet?

We say no, but the makers of an anti–gray hair pill want us to believe that everyone is dying to get rid of their gray hair.

"Going gray can be a real blow to a person's self-confidence and for some it's a constant reminder of growing older," reads the press release for Go Away Gray. "Women and men routinely spend a fortune on coloring those grays, but now, there's a pill you can take to get rid of gray hair... permanently."

A month's supply of Go Away Gray will set you back $29.99. The secret ingredient — according to company CEO Cathy Beggan — is catalase.

"Our bodies produce hydrogen peroxide which bleaches our hair from the inside out. Our bodies also produce an enzyme called Catalase which breaks down the hydrogen peroxide. When we don't produce enough Catalase, the hydrogen peroxide cannot be broken down. As a result, hair is bleached from the inside out, turning it gray," Beggan said.

Go Away Gray apparently puts the catalase back in your body.

But, does it work? No, judging from online reviews.

"They should call this product "Go Away Money" because that's all it will do for you," one man wrote on Amazon.

"I have used it since July, and here it is December and I have seen no changes. In fact, my grays seem to be growing in faster. I have to color my hair every 4 weeks instead of every 5," wrote another.

So, save your cash and use it to pay for a dye job. Or just embrace the gray! You earned 'em, after all.

Do you dye your hair to color the gray, or are you letting nature take its course? Sound off in the comments below!

Kate Middleton pays for her clothes... Yes, really!

$

Kate Middleton is just like us! Well, "just like us" in that she pays for her clothes.

Kate Middleton

Want to know why Kate Middleton recycles her outfits? She pays for all of them — and money doesn't grow on trees!

It's true: Middleton doesn't accept free clothing from designers, according to one of her go-to clothiers.

"She doesn’t take free clothes, and I've heard that from other people who sent her things," designer Katherine Hooker told The Huffington Post. Instead, "she always comes to the shop, which is nice. And we've sent her a few things when she didn't have time to come in."

It makes sense — and we applaud the mom-to-be for it, especially since many celebrities worth millions of dollars regularly get free clothes or even get paid to wear designer garb.

The revelation also takes all the drama out of the "Kardashian diss" from last fall.

"While she was in London last week, Kim had several free dresses from her Kardashian Kollection sent to Princess Kate," a source told Marie Claire UK in November. "She hoped Kate might be seen wearing one of the designs out in public, which would give their fashion credentials a huge boost."

Instead, the Duchess of Cambridge send the clothing back — and "sources" said it was because she didn't want to be associated with the reality TV family.

"The Kardashians want to be as big in the UK as they are in America, and think associating themselves with the royals, especially Kate, will help them achieve that."

But no real drama here — Kate just doesn't do free clothes. Instead, she sticks with what she knows suits her.

"Her style was fairly appropriate for the role that she’s currently in ten years ago, so it didn't need to change," Hooker continued.

"She's just an incredibly lovely person," the designer continued. "It couldn't happen to a nicer person, as they say."

Take acne into
your own hands

You can combat acne at home with ingredients you probably already have in your cupboard. These DIY at-home acne remedies are gentle and effective.

You don’t have to be a teenager to experience the angst-inducing effects of acne. Thankfully there are several at-home remedies you can easily put together to help soothe your skin and combat a dreaded breakout.

Dr. Agnes is the founder of AcnEase, a unique provider of alternative and complementary health care solutions in the U.S and global marketplace. According to Dr. Agnes, scientists have found that cocoa can contain more antioxidants per cup than red wine or green tea.

There is also data suggesting that regular eating of dark chocolate without sugar can calm skin that’s been irritated by sun exposure, and in general, improve skin texture, hydration and appearance. Cocoa butter is actually a familiar additive to many cosmetic products such as body butters, creams or scrubs.

She notes that, in general, chocolate and chocolate-based products are good natural choices to improve your skin. It will act as a moisturizer ; calm irritated, dry skin; promote rejuvenation from inside out and help detoxification.

Dr. Agnes' Chocolate Skin Wrap

Keep in mind that the Chocolate Skin Wrap is not recommended for people with active severe acne. It is, however, recommended for people with acne scars and marks or who have dry and irritated or tired skin.

Dr. Agnes says that chocolate has highly firming and nourishing qualities, so if you want to firm your neck and chest, here is a simple way to do it. Make sure your skin is clean before applying this wrap.

Ingredients:

  • Unsweetened dark or semi-dark chocolate
  • 2 teaspoons light cream

Directions:

  1. Melt the chocolate on the stove over low heat, and continue to stir until completely melted. The amount to use depends on the size of the area to cover.
  2. Add a teaspoon or two of light cream to the chocolate, until you reach a smooth consistency .
  3. Allow the mixture to cool so that it is just warm and no longer hot.
  4. Smear the mixture on your neck and chest, and leave it on for about 20 minutes. As you wait, relax, and maybe put a chamomile compress over your eyes.
  5. Rinse the wrap off in the shower, or wash it off with tepid water and a soft cloth.

DIY aspirin-lemon juice acne paste

DIY Aspirin-lemon Juice Acne Paste

Much less expensive than over-the-counter or high-end salon treatments, this DIY aspirin acne paste can be effective in clearing up a blemish. This treatment comes from Dr. Oz and is easy to make with a few ingredients you have at home.

Aspirin contains salicylic acid, also included in many acne treatments where it acts as a chemical peel to reduce acne and scarring. The lemon juice in this paste can work as an exfoliant to get rid of dry or dead skin, and the baking soda acts as a neutralizer to the acid. Simple to make, give this one a try.

Keep in mind that if you are allergic to aspirin, you should not use this treatment. Also, before applying the paste to your face, first test it on your inner arm where you skin is more sensitive, to help ensure you can tolerate the ingredients. Don’t forget to first wash your face to remove any dirt or makeup.

If you feel any discomfort after applying the paste, immediately rinse it off with the baking soda and water solution. After using the paste, you may find your skin becomes a bit dry. Use an SPF moisturizer in your skin care routine to help eliminate any dryness.

DIY Aspirin-lemon Juice Acne Paste

Ingredients:

  • 6-12 non-coated aspirin
  • 1/8-1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Directions:

  1. Combine six to 12 non-coated aspirin with just enough lemon juice to cover them .
  2. Combine the water and baking powder in a small bowl, and set aside.
  3. Let the aspirin dissolve in the juice, and then mix it to form a thin paste.
  4. Apply the paste to the area where your blemish is, and allow it to sit for a few minutes.
  5. Remove the paste with a cotton ball dipped in a solution of baking soda and water.

DIY soothing oatmeal paste

DIY Soothing Oatmeal Paste

Talk about a simple solution! This DIY soothing oatmeal paste couldn’t be easier to make, and it can do wonders for your skin. Not only is oatmeal good to eat, but it’s good for your skin, too. Oatmeal can reduce the redness from acne and help soothe inflammation on your skin. You’ll find many over-the-counter skin care treatments that include oatmeal in the ingredients. It’s been used for years to treat irritated skin, dry skin and even as a natural remedy for acne.

Before you apply the paste, pull your hair back away from your face and wash your face to remove any dirt or makeup.

DIY Soothing Oatmeal Paste

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup boiling water

Directions:

  1. Grind the rolled oats in a food processor or grinder.
  2. Boil the water.
  3. Mix the rolled oats and the hot water in a small bowl to form a thick paste.
  4. Important: Allow the mixture to cool completely before applying it to your skin. When cool, apply the mixture to your face. Leave it on for about 10 minutes, and then rinse it off with warm water and a soft washcloth.

5 Men tell us the fragrances they think are sexy on women

Think the only scents that turn guys on are ones that smell like food ? So did we! But then we asked some real men what fragrances press their buttons, and we were surprised by the answers. If you’re sick of spending Saturday nights alone, take one of these fragrances out for a spin…

1

Joy by Jean Patou

Henri Alméras’s Joy Perfume for Jean Patou

When I asked Tony, an entrepreneur, what his favorite scent is, I was shocked. I had grown up with Tony in the mountains of Western Montana . I assumed scents that reminded him of leaves, chainsaw gas and gun smoke would get his motor running. I was shocked by his answer.

Tony confessed, “In 2001 I met a girl from NY. She wore Joy . Whenever I pass by a perfume shop that sells it, I have to ask if they would be kind enough to let me have a sniff. Most do. As the floral chemistry fills my senses, one emotion surfaces — regret. In that moment, I reaffirm my commitment to never again let a woman who wears Joy go, no matter what her bra size is, no matter what her shoe size is and no matter how many prescription medications she has in her purse. Any girl that can afford that flower juice in these harsh economic times is a keeper.”

2

No. 5 Chanel

No. 5 Chanel

Within our small survey, this was a big hit with the boys, more for what it represented than how it smells. Kellan, a 24-year-old owner of a painting business, explains why No. 5 Chanel is his favorite. “OK, so my favorite scent is No. 5 Chanel, the one in the pink bottle . My ex-girlfriend wore it, and the smell brings my memory back to good times I've had with her. Whenever I smell it on some other female, it instantly attracts me to her no matter what shape, size or appearance. I'm always sure to let them know they smell good and from there continue to flirt, hence why I am single and talking about my ex-girlfriend’s scent!”

We predict this funny boy won’t be single for long, but are you seeing a pattern yet? Does it surprise you how sentimental guys can be when it comes to scent associations? Justin, a 29-year-old country musician, says this fragrance is his favorite for less sentimental reasons. “I like No. 5 Chanel with a hint of whiskey and cigarettes.”

3

Noir

Tom Ford Noir

Chad, who makes his living as a comedian in L.A., wasn’t sure which scent puts him over the edge. “The challenge for me is to get a name. Sometimes I will smell a girl and I'll levitate, eyes fluttering, not knowing what fragrance was the culprit for my little trance.”

When I asked Chad if he could pinpoint a particular scent that triggered these little fits, like floral or musky, he had a hard time singling out the culprit. For Chad, we chose the mysterious and unisex Tom Ford Noir .

"Sometimes I will smell a girl and I'll levitate, eyes fluttering..."
4

Crush

American Eagle’s Crush

Josh, a 23-year-old who works two jobs and is saving up for school, brings us full circle with food fragrances. “I like American Eagle’s Crush because it’s subtle and fruity. It smells like candy to me.” If your guy likes his fragrances like he likes his women, sweet, then give this scent a try.

Another choice is Coach’s Poppy Flower perfume, which the manufacturer describes as, “Happy and fun personality [that] bursts open with sparkling top notes of grapefruit, wet ivy and mandarin.... The flirty drydown leaves behind a soft, playful sexiness with notes of sugared raspberry, musk, sandalwood and creamy apricot skin.” We’re not exactly sure what a “drydown” is, but if this isn’t a recipe for getting lucky, we’re not sure what is.

5

Beautiful

s Beautiful by Estee Lauder

Dustin, a 21-year-old college student, gets nostalgic when he smells Beautiful by Estee Lauder . “I don’t mean this in a weird way, but the smell of Beautiful reminds me of my mom because she wore it when I was little. It’s sophisticated, but feminine. It just makes me think how a wife and maybe the mother-of-my-kids may smell. When I smell Beautiful, it makes me think of a beautiful person, a loving wife and a great mother.”

Gulp. Tissue please. We’re not suggesting that you try to smell like your boyfriend’s mother, but a scent that is more feminine and evokes feelings of nurturing may have your guy looking at you like wife and mother-of-his-kids material. Dustin proves that when it comes to scents, men seem to be more emotionally tied to certain fragrances than we may have given them credit for.

Stila Long Wear Lip Color in Intriguing

"Hands down, my absolute favorite lip product is Stila Long Wear Lip Color in Intriguing. I love it because it glides on like a gloss but looks like a lipstick. Not to mention, it’s portable and easy to apply on the run. I go back and forth between their neutrals and bright colored sticks. So, needless to say, I stash quite a few in my handbag!” — Kara Manos, Founder & Editor of Politics of Pretty

Bite Beauty Luminous Crème Lipstick in Cin Cin

Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Cin Cin

"The color is a beautiful coral that I feel like anyone can pull off. My favorite thing of all about this lipstick though is that it packs super antioxidant resveratrol, which fights free radicals with potent long-term anti-aging perks. In fact, each lipstick contains the amount of resveratrol found in five glasses of red wine, and what gal doesn't love wine? We lick our lips constantly, so knowing that I may be ingesting a lipstick that is free of parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances and dyes, petrochemicals, GMOs and phthalates is a major winning factor for me.” — Allie Maltese of Haute-Girls.com

Bobbi Brown Rich Color Gloss in Pink Buff

Bobbi Brown Rich Color Gloss in Pink Buff

"If you look in my cosmetic bag, it’s very practical with hints of color, fun and various brands. However, I have been a Bobbi Brown fan for 10+ years. Of course, I have other glosses, but the Bobbi Brown Rich Color Gloss is my go-to. I love it in Pink Buff. It’s perfect for everyday wear to the office, coffee with the girls or running errands. I can count on it to go with everything. The color lasts, it isn’t very sticky, and the tapered applicator is much easier to use than what they’ve had in the past . The best part, it moisturizes at the same time so I don’t have to worry about chapped lips during snowy winter months in Tahoe. Double win!” — Tiara Wasner of Ice Cream & French Fries

Kim Kardashian gets sexy blunt bangs

Kim Kardashian took the plunge and cut her signature long hair into blunt bangs. Do you like the look?

Kim Kardashian

Breaking news: Kim Kardashian got bangs!

Yep, the pregnant reality star finally took the plunge after testing out a clip-on version during her Cosmopolitan cover shoot earlier this year.

But, she's not really sure she likes the look.

"I can't decide," the reality star said in a series of Keek videos posted to Twitter. In the clips, Kardashian is shown at the salon with mother Kris Jenner and stylist Philip Wolff.

"Philip says, 'You should never listen to a pregnant woman.' But we'll do it," she said before getting the chop. "I just feel like I need a change."

Her stylist later told US Weekly that he typically won't let hormonal pregnant women make drastic style changes, but he thought Kardashian was ready.

"She wanted something new without being too drastic... I feel it's so important for a woman to feel sexy throughout her pregnancy, and this happened to be a small part of that for her," he told the magazine.

"Kim was so happy with the end result," he continued. "I personally love them on her, but then again, she has such an amazing face shape and bone structure that she has the luxury of wearing almost any style and it looks great. What makes Kim so sexy to me is that she wears her hair — her hair doesn't wear her."

But is she really doing it for herself — or for boyfriend Kanye West? Kardashian even admits that her ever-evolving style is thanks to her rapper beau.

“I dress for my man way more than for myself!" Kardashian said earlier this year. "He likes cool, drapey things. Very casual."

Wolff thinks this cut will be West approved, too.

"Kanye has a huge part in her [style] decisions... which I think is a great dynamic for them as a couple," Wolff added. "They both share a passion for fashion and style — I love that."

We're not so sure, but whatever works for them.

Tell us

Should Kim Kardashian let Kanye West influence her style so much? Sound off in the comments below!

DIY bohemian boots

$

If you’re bored with your old boots, you can give them a new lease on life by adding pretty lace, leftover fabric and beads for a cute and unique look to suit your personality.

DIY bohemian boots

Instead of investing in a new pair of shoes, recycling is more fun and good for the environment too. The boots can be decorated in a few quick and easy steps with materials you already own.

Supplies:

  • A pair of ankle boots
  • Fabric of your choice
  • A strong clear glue, preferably an epoxy or Araldite-based glue
  • Two belts
  • Leather string
  • Feathers
  • Chain, jump rings and small pendants

Instructions:

1
  • Cut two long strips of cotton and lace. These need to be long enough to go all the way around the boot.
  • Your cotton strip needs to be thinner than your lace.
  • Pin your fabric around your boot and cut the excess fabric off.
  • Do the same with your lace.

DIY bohemian boots

2

Sew each of your long strips of fabric together to form a round loop, and repeat this step with the lace.

DIY bohemian boots

3

Arrange your lace and cotton around your boot. Once this is done, you can add a small amount of glue to the inside of your fabric to attach it to the boot. Only use a very small amount of glue to avoid having it seep through your fabric.

DIY bohemian boots

4

Stuff your boot with some tissue paper or fabric . This needs to be done before you attach your belts to ensure your belts are not too tight in order for your feet to slip into the boots comfortably.

DIY bohemian boots

5

This step is optional. I chose to decorate my boots with chain and feather pendants as well as feathers and beads attached to leather string . Attach your belts to your boots and carefully add glue to the inside of your belts once they are positioned on your boot. Do not use too much glue . Allow them to dry for 48 hours.

DIY bohemian boots

6

Add your chain and feathers to your boots, and voila, you have a unique pair of boots.

Rihanna has enlisted an haute couture heavyweight to create her new stage costumes.

Rihanna

Rihanna is known for her sexy outfit choices, but she might be showing off a goth side during her upcoming tour. The "Diamonds" singer enlisted couture design house Givenchy to design the stage outfits for her upcoming tour.

"Rihanna represents what young and amazing means today. She is punk and talented. She offers intelligence, energy, and pure beauty," Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci said in a statement. "She is the face of her generation."

Among the designs? A floor-length, ruffled, silk crepe cape embellished with three-dimensional collar embroidery and a parka featuring silver stars and a target on the back.

Interesting.

Then again, we wouldn't expect anything less from the 25-year-old thong enthusiast. RiRi is known for her eclectic style — and now her fans are dressing like her, thanks to her collaboration with British clothing brand River Island.

The "designs" — including questionable denim-on-denim and assymetrical pieces — are selling out on the River Island website.

And she'll have more soon. Co-designers Adam Selman and Mel Ottenberg said they're planning another collection with RiRi's help.

"We all have the same idea of what 'chic' is at the moment, as much as I hate that word," Selman recently told Elle. "It is more about the woman and the ease and beauty. A woman [should] wear a dress as opposed to the dress wearing her."

"It is very collaborative," Selman's partner, Mel Ottenberg, added. "But she has great style, and she is not a mass-produced creation of me."

Wonder if she'll partner with Givenchy for a ready-to-wear collection anytime soon? Somehow we doubt her average fan would be able to afford those ensembles.

Zooey Deschanel loves the thrift shop!

It's probably not surprising that quirky actress Zooey Deschanel loves scouring the thrift shop for deals. Still, we love her for it!

Zooey Deschanel

Zooey Deschanel might have millions now, thanks to her successful movie career and hilarious role on FOX's New Girl, but she's still a thrifty girl at heart. The Los Angeles native told InStyle in a new cover interview that women can be just as fashionable in secondhand finds as they can in couture dresses.

"Style isn't when you buy yourself the most expensive things. It's being creative and able to put together what you've collected," she told the magazine, adding that she learned that while struggling to make it in her career. "I didn't have a lot of money, so I got things for, like $2, $3, and made myself look as good as I could. Limitations make you more creative."

Totally agree with that.

Also, swoon. We love it when celebrities — including Kate Middleton— show off a good deal. The pregnant duchess recently delighted fans when she stopped at a London Top Shop to buy a $55 maternity dress from Lovestruck.

"It's so exciting that the Duchess of Cambridge bought one of my designs," Lovestruck designer Erika Shaw told US Weekly in early March. "I think it's great that Kate wears high street brands."

The Sessions actress Helen Hunt even shops at H&M — she wore a creation from the retailer to the 2013 Academy Awards. Unfortunately, that dress — reportedly worth about $650 — won't be sold in stores.

Not all hope is lost, though! The Swedish clothing retailer later told the New York Times that it's planning a "red carpet collection" for release sometime later this year.

"This is a way for us to show we can do so many more things than what we have in our stores," Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s head of design, told the Times of the collaboration with Hunt.

Stylish and affordable? We'll take that over stylish and expensive any day!

Celeb Hairstyle of the Week: Mila Kunis

We have a total crush on Mila Kunis' chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!

Mila Kunis at the LA premiere of Oz the Great and Powerful

Mila Kunis made my best dressed list last week, and today, I'm paying homage to the 'do that really made her look awesome. This beautiful braided bun complements the flirty and fun Dolce & Gabbana dress Mila wore to the LA premiere of Oz the Great and Powerful!

Gone are the days of boring updos. These days, intricate is most definitely in! The good news? Creating these complex looks doesn't have to be difficult!

I consulted Justine Piecuch, stylist at Boston's renowned Jeffrey Lyle Salon, to get the step by step breakdown of this look for you.

Get the look!

"Often times when we look at celebrity hair, it seems to be so overly involved and complicated. In actuality, most of the time it's quite simple and rather basic. Textured up-styles like this one here are so easy to duplicate at home and will almost work with any day or night look. When trying to recreate looks, it's best to not go overboard and use the pictures as inspiration. Hair today is worn in and shouldn't look anything close to perfect."

  1. First it's important to set the hair. This is your foundation. Using a 3/4- to 1-inch curling iron, wrap every piece of hair. In this case, the importance isn't how it looks. It's more about getting every section of hair.
  2. Separate the front from the back. In the back section, loosely gather hair into a messy ponytail, secure and braid.
  3. Pull at the braid a little to loosen and wrap into a bun, securing with bobby pins.
  4. Next create some lift in the crown and pin this section into the braid. Left with bits popping out? Don't worry — this is great for creating a messy effect.
  5. Starting above the ears and working your way up in sections, gather hair, twist and pin into braided bun. Repeat this until all hair is secured.
  6. Finish with a light hairspray. You don't want to look like you have helmet head after all, and if any hairs are sticking out, the updo will look that much better.

Friday's Fashion Obsessions: Emma Stone and Selena Gomez

Emma Stone and Selena Gomez's beautiful celebrity styles made us do a double take this week! We're telling you why in this week's installment of Friday’s Fashion Obsessions.

Emma Stone at The Croods premiere

Emma Stone

Emma Stone has one of those unique voices that was made for animated films, so it's no surprise that the actress is lending her pipes to the realm of cartoons this month in her new film, The Croods. The actress showed up to the film's NYC premiere this week in a neat womenswear meets menswear ensemble I'm loving.

Emma seems to have perfected the art of no-frills dressing. In this instance, she took a textured Lanvin dress and dressed it down by layering it with a simple white top. The result? A super cool look. Metallic layered necklaces and nude pumps topped off the look, and Emma opted for a messy boho updo.

The final verdict? I can't help but be reminded of my childhood when I look at this ensemble. Layering dresses and shirts is something we all loved when we were little for the sheer purpose of keeping warm, but it's something that seems to have ebbed away a bit over time. I'm loving that this trend is making a comeback!

Selena Gomez at the Spring Breakers premiere

Selena Gomez

Everyone's favorite Disney gal is all grown up! Selena Gomez is shedding a part of her good girl image with her role in the new movie Spring Breakers, and she's been flying around the globe to promote the naughty flick this month. At a Spanish photocall for the movie, Selena rocked this colorful ensemble and I've fallen in love.

Selena has been rocking some pretty sexy looks lately, but what I love about this one is its professional nature. It's perfect for all you working gals! The crisp white pencil skirt is high waisted and oh so flattering, and it pops against the bright yellow printed blouse.

The final verdict? The lesson here is that business wear doesn't have to be boring! Spice up your work wardrobe with bright blouses and fun details like prints and buttons, and the 9-5 will go by a lot faster.

Friday's Fashion Fails: Blake Lively and Ke$ha

Oops... even celebrities get it wrong sometimes! We're telling you why Blake Lively and Ke$ha's fashions fell short in our weekly feature. Learn from the stars' sartorial slip ups!

Blake Lively at The Croads premiere

Blake Lively

Blake Lively is almost always on our best dressed list, but this outfit proves that no one's perfect all the time, even Ms. Ryan Reynolds. The gorgeous blonde was on hand to support her hubby at the NYC premiere of his new movie, The Croods.

The animated movie is about cave people in the prehistoric era, but Blake was going for a futuristic look with her fashion. She chose a burgundy Marios Schwab dress from his fall 2013 collection with an oddly-structured bodice that reminded us of Anne Hathaway's unfortunate Oscar gown issue. Pointy bodices are tough to pull off, no matter how pretty you are.

The dress also features pointy white accents on her elbows and a white hemline, which sort of looks like she's wearing a slip that's sticking out .

The final verdict? We love you, Blake, but this isn't our favorite look for you. The dress does show off one of your best accessories, though: your amazing legs!

Ke$ha at Pure nightclub

Ke$ha

On the other end of the sartorial spectrum is Ke$ha, who's no stranger to landing in our worst dressed category. Since Lady Gaga has been laying low due to her hip surgery, it seems Ke$ha's taken it upon herself to pick up the bizarro wardrobe baton on her behalf.

Here's the "Die Young" singer in Sin City where she celebrated the anniversary of Pure nightclub in typical over-the-top style. Ke$ha packed on the petals and took off her pants before hitting the red carpet. Yes, florals are in style for spring, but with her flowered headpiece, sleeves and bodysuit, she's gone overboard. Turn down the flower power!

Her sequined jacket and corset could be cute, but we think she could lose the shiny nude hose and instead add a skirt or leather leggings to make this outfit better.

The final verdict? We do love her Christian Louboutin booties, so nice job on the shoes. She has some staples here with potential if they were just styled differently. Maybe next time?

Red carpet and runway trends are translating into real style

With award season behind us and Fashion Week having come and gone, we’re looking at some of the most popular looks this past season and how they’re translating into everyday street style.
Salma Hayek wearing velvet dress
Louise Roe wearing paisley gown
Sandra Bullock wearing lace gown
We always look to the red carpet and the runway to get our fashion inspiration, and while some trends go global, others seem to fade into oblivion. Stylitics, an analytics site dedicated to all things fashion, has broken down the top trends seen at this season’s award shows as well as New York Fashion Week. Based on trend reports and customer spending, these are the top red carpet and runway styles and predictions on if they’ll be working their way into your wardrobe.

Velvet

velvet booties

Velvet was a hit during Fashion Week with designer heavyweights like Ralph Lauren, Zac Posen, J. Mendel and Tadashi Shoji incorporating the luxurious fabric in various dark hues into their collections. Actress Salma Hayek also stunned in her midnight blue velvet and gold detailed Alexander McQueen gown at the Oscars. It’s safe to say this high end fabric is here to stay.

Stylitics says, “Over the past five months, we’ve seen a whopping 146 percent increase in the wearing of this trend.”

If you’re looking to incorporate just a touch of velvet into your wardrobe, start with the accessories. This chic velvet clutch purse  or edgy heels like velvet booties will help you stand out without overdoing it.

Paisley

spring-inspired scarf

This Persian-originated print is making a serious comeback this year. Seen on editor Louise Roe’s Monique Lhuillier designed gown on the Oscars red carpet, the psychedelic print is holding serious power this season. Even top designers like Givenchy and Jenni Kayne were showing some love for the wild print. While Stylitics notes that Paisley purchases have been down, there has been a recent increase in sales since Fashion Week.

The key to rocking this '70s trend is, for the most part, less is more. Try adding a paisley scarf or headband to your ensemble for a fun edge. We love this spring-inspired scarf .

If you’re a bit more obsessed with this standout fabric and want to take a fun fashion risk, try pieces that are bolder like these silk paisley pants by Ralph Lauren .

Lace

lace shorts

For the most part, the policy on lace seems to be whenever, wherever since the classic and sexy style is almost always a red carpet go-to. Most recently seen on Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock and in the collections of Louis Vuitton and Valentino, this sweet style is popping up everywhere, but is this trend getting a little overexposed?

Stylitics found that sales of lace products peaked in March 2012 and have been declining since. They’re predicting it will still be a trend to watch this summer but its future popularity for fall is still unclear.

If you still need your lace fix, try light and fun summer fabrics in sun dresses or lace shorts .

Modern Classics for spring

This month our trendspotter, Jill Laine, scoured the streets of sunny LA to find what classic trends we can all look forward to wearing this spring and beyond!

Black and white
Bold florals
Punchy Prints

1

Black and white

Is there a woman alive that doesn’t love the effortless chic of black and white? Whether the mod trend, exaggerated ruffles or classic shapes, this spring offers endless choices to suit your black and white moods. Consider this trend to be your perfect, neutral canvas for a big burst of color in shoes or accessories.

At The Grove, Pia wears a delightfully chic Michael Kors dress with shoulder cut-outs.

What I love about her look: With great fashion, less is truly more. All she needs is a little pair of ballet flats and sunnies with this dress to be picture perfect!

2

Bold florals

In nature as well as the runway, flowers herald the return of spring. There’s nothing demure or shy about florals circa 2013 — they feature in-your-face, big, bold prints and electric hues. Remember to pair these high drama items with neutrals and other basics to keep your look in full bloom.

On Melrose, Jill wears Prabal Gurung for Target.

What I love about this look: You don’t need to spend a bundle to get the latest trends. This little dress is only $35. The colors and bold print lift us out of our winter doldrums and remind us that warmer temps are straight ahead.

3

Punchy prints

The last few years in fashion have seen a print revolution-slash-evolution, and this spring that bar has been raised even higher. Although I’m completely smitten with prints du jour, these have massive personality and are thusly remembered. To keep this look classic, opt to wear these outrageous prints in small doses like accessories.

In West Hollywood, Tosha wears a brightly colored Theodora & Callum printed scarf.

What I love about this look: You can never go wrong with quality basic pieces: a white shirt, black riding boots and jeans. Throw on a scarf in any brightly colored print and voila! It’s modern yet timeless style at its best.

What they don't tell you about Botox

$

Have you looked in the mirror lately and seen frown lines forming between your eyebrows? Does the thought of injections in your face scare you? If you are thinking about Botox, here is what you need to know from someone who has had the treatment for many years.

Woman getting Botox

Ask yourself why?

The first question to ask yourself is why do you want to get Botox? Do you see crow’s feet around your eyes that make you look older? Do you have frown lines between your eyes that make you look angry when you are not? Or do you have a big event coming up like your wedding? Like any facial procedure, patients need to have realistic expectations. While it won't get you that new job or find a boyfriend, it can give you extra confidence in your appearance which can translate to all areas of your life.

My story

I had my first Botox treatment right before I got married 11 years ago. Six months before I got married, I went to Australia with some friends for an adventure trip. Even though I was in the beauty industry , I had never thought about wrinkles before that trip. One day we went on a tour of a koala bear sanctuary. I was so excited to have my picture taken hugging a koala bear and I ordered the largest print they had, but once the picture was handed to me, I was horrified!

I had a huge smile on my face, a cuddly bear around me and lots of crow’s feet around my eyes! I tore up the picture and threw it out! As soon as I landed at home, I called my dermatologist and asked what I could do about the wrinkles and he suggested Botox, a new wrinkle treatment. After the procedure, I was so happy, especially with the upcoming wedding. Since then, I get treatments every four to six months .

How does it work?

BOTOX are neurotoxic proteins produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum . These drugs work by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles, hence reducing the muscle movements that cause wrinkles.

The concept is not new. Frownies, a tape that is placed over wrinkles at nighttime to prevent repetitive muscle movement was invented over 100 years ago. Of course the results are not as fast as BOTOX and its competitors, but it is based on the same principles.

These medications are officially approved for frown lines between the eyes but most doctors also use them to correct crow’s feet, bunny lines , horizontal forehead lines, nasal flare and even do brow lifts.

What does it cost?

The average price of the treatments ranges from $250-$400 per area . Sometimes the manufacturers offer discounts or coupons via their websites or through the doctors; however, this should not be the reason to choose one or the other.

Botox injectionWhat should you ask your doctor?

First you should find an experienced dermatologist or plastic surgeon to perform wrinkle treatments on your face. If you have friends who have gotten Botox and you like how they look, try to consult with the same doctor. I would suggest avoiding "Botox parties" — being one on one with your doctor in their office is ideal in case anything goes wrong or you have a reaction.

An experienced doctor will know where to place the neurotoxin and how much to inject in each area for the most natural look possible. Also, your doctor will know which injectable is suitable for your needs, or they might even use two different ones on you at the same time .

You should also tell your doctor about any medications, vitamins or mineral supplements you are taking, as some will increase the chance of bleeding or bruising. Common medications to avoid are ibuprofen and aspirin. Similarly, vitamin E, omega-3 and flaxseed oil supplements can increase chances of bruising. So even if you only have a consultation with a doctor, try to avoid these supplements seven days prior to the meeting. If you decide to get the injections, it will minimize your chance of bruising and bleeding.

During the treatment

Before the procedure, your face will be cleaned of all makeup . Next, topical ice will be applied to the areas to be treated . Your doctor will ask you to contract and relax the problem areas . This allows the doctor to inject the appropriate spots on your face.

After each injection, you will hold ice to your face as well to minimize any bruising and soothe the area. Most doctors offer "free" touch ups after two weeks. I think this is so important because it means that they are using the least amount necessary on your face. After two weeks, you can determine if you need any more .

After

Once the doctor is finished, you are free to apply makeup to your face. Doctors recommend not lying down for two to four hours after and avoid vigorous exercise. Within a few days, you will notice the effect of the treatment and results usually last three to six months, depending on the individual. If you have any side effects, most likely they will be bruising, headaches or a flu-like feeling, and these usually go away either after a few hours or in the case of bruising, after a few days.
