Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence went soft and sexy for her 2013 SAG Awards hairstyle.

"She went for the cool texture and pin backed side,"Whitney said. "Her color is also so pretty, a warm chestnut."

Marion Cotillard

French actress Marion Cotillard looks gorgeous whether she's wearing her hair long or short, but Whitney prefers the bob.

"I love Marion Cotillard's bob," she said. "Very cool."

Sofia Vergara and Jennifer Garner

Sofia Vergara and Jennifer Garner went with soft, sexy waves — a good choice, according to Whitney.

"I loved the texture of Jennifer Garner and Sofia Vergara's hair," the designer told SheKnows.

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried killed it with her Zac Posen fishtail gown. She paired the dramatic dress with equally-as-dramatic eye makeup.

"LoveAmanda Seyfried's natural glossy lips and eyes," she said.

Claire Danes

Claire Danes at the 2013 SAG Awards

Homeland star Claire Danes went back to her My So-Called Life days with super dark lips. It worked, though.

"Claire Danes' dark, vamp lips were cool," Whitney said. "I want to try this trend but haven't had the right occasion."

Maybe your next red carpet appearance, Whitney?

DIY rosewater toner

Roses aren't only beautiful to look at! They also smell pretty sweet too. It’s no wonder they've been used for centuries in beauty rituals and products! This DIY rosewater toner is easy to make and definitely a treat to use.

DIY Rosewater Toner

Rosewater is a natural, mild astringent, and can help remove excess oil from your skin, as well as help soothe and tone it.

Rosewater makes a gentle and all-natural face toner for almost all skin types, and it’s easy and inexpensive to make. We picked up six roses at the florist for about $5.

DIY rosewater toner

Before applying the rosewater toner to your face, first test it on your inner arm, where your skin is more sensitive, to help ensure you can tolerate the ingredients. Don’t forget to first wash your face to remove any dirt or makeup, and then gently pat your face dry.

Pull your hair away from your face, and soak a cotton ball or pad with the toner and apply to your face in upward strokes. Once your skin is dry, moisturize it as usual.

DIY Rosewater Toner -- supplies

Supplies:

  • 2 roses for about one packed cup of rose petals
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 strainer
  • 1 large, sterilized glass container with a tight-fitting lid
  • Optional: 1 small, sterilized glass container with a tight-fitting lid to use as a more convenient size in your bathroom.

Instructions:

  1. Remove the rinsed rose petals from the roses and place them in a small pan.
  2. Pour two cups of boiling water over the petals and put a lid on the pan. Allow the water and petals to sit until the water cools to about room temperature.
  3. Place the strainer over a large, sterilized glass container and pour the water into the container.
  4. Optional: Add some of the rosewater to a small, sterilized glass container with a lid for a more convenient size to use in your bathroom.
  5. Store extra rosewater in the refrigerator for about a week.
  6. Apply the rosewater toner to a clean face before moisturizing.

Beauty Beat: How to create the Hollywood power bun

The experts show us an easy step-by-step hairstyle tutorial for the Hollywood power bun.

1

Prep hair with dry shampoo

Run a dry shampoo all over your head to remove any excess oils and to make hair easier to manage. Make sure you're using one that's right for your hair type. We used Joico Instant Refresh Dry Shampoo.

Prep hair with dry shampoo

2

Gather hair into a high ponytail

Smooth out any tangles or knots with a fine brush and tightly gather your hair into a high ponytail.

3

Secure with a ponytail hook

This look calls for more than your average elastic, so for a secure fit, tie your hair with a hooked ponytail holder.

4

Back comb

For amazing volume, back comb your ponytail and then smooth out the outer layers.

5

Separate into sections

Separate your ponytail into two large sections: front and back.

6

Roll the front section

Take the front section of your ponytail and roll it forward, letting the ends tuck under the bun and secure each side with bobby pins.

Roll the front section

7

Repeat with back section

Just like the front, take the back section of your hair and roll it under so that the ends tuck underneath the bun. Again, make sure to secure with bobby pins.

8

Secure loose ends

In case any flyaways arise or any loose ends make it out of the bun, make sure to secure them by tucking them under with bobby pins.

9

Even it out

Use your fingers to very lightly pull apart the bun to hide any gaps and even out the style. Finish off the look with hairspray — we stayed brand consistent and used Joico Power Spray.

Dove Color Care Salon

Last week, the stars flocked to Park City, Utah for the Sundance Film Festival, ready for a weekend of celebrity sightings, great parties and a whole lot of pampering. One of the best places to be was the Dove Color Care Salon.

Stars are no different than we are — we all want to look our best when we know we are going to be photographed! It's no surprise the Dove Color Care Salon was a hot ticket, with lots of stars passing through to get their hair touched up for their big events — Karina Smirnoff visited to get her hair washed and styled by celebrity stylist Matt Fugate with the new Dove Color Care products while Mario Lopez hung out and watched his wife Courtney as she got tips from Fugate for keeping her hair vibrant.

Octavia Spencer
Octavia Spencer, looking fresh and pretty!

The salon, part of the Talent Resources Gifting Suite, included visits by Jane Lynch, Octavia Spencer, Jennifer Coolidge and more. The main star of the salon? The new Dove Color Care collection — formulated to protect hair against the dulling and fading of its color while nourishing it, giving it a vibrant shine. I don't color my hair — but I do chemically treat it, and it's often looking "fried" and dull — especially in busy travel seasons! I'm already obsessed — check out how hot my hair looked after Matt gave me a blowout with the products. After back-to-back red eye flights and a whole lot of dry mountain air, that's pretty incredible.

Jane Lynch & Jennifer Coolidg: Jane Lynch ran into Jennifer Coolidge at The Dove Color Care Salon
Jane Lynch ran into Jennifer Coolidge at The Dove Color Care Salon after Jennifer tried out the new Dove Color Care Leave On Conditioner. This was the first time Jennifer Coolidge met Jane Lynch’s wife, which was quite ironic since Jennifer and Jane played partners in the film Best in Show.

It was also a time for spotting — and creating new trends. "This was the first time Mario had ever seen Courtney with bangs before. He was super excited and was tweeting throughout the cut!" says Fugate, who created the fabulous fringe, inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama, Mario's wife is rocking. Fugate says another big trend was "undone fun"— all the looks matched the energy of the festival from Freida Pinto’s messy ponytail to Julianne Moore’s topknot and January Jones’ new blonde, sexy bob.

"The most fun for me was being able to meet so many great people and work with such an amazing team of girls from Ulysses salon in Salt Lake City... And also laughing with Pretty Little Liars’ Troian Bellisario — her hair and personality were vibrant as ever!" says Fugate.

Inspiration:"For the Screen Actors Guild Awards, I was inspired by Old Hollywood glamour, so I wanted Jennifer's hair to show that influence and inspiration, but I wanted it to be young and very modern as well."

  1. To get those beautiful sideswept waves, start by applying a nickel size amount of the new Dove Color Care Leave On Conditioner into damp hair.
  2. Next, apply a generous amount of the Dove Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse and blow dry with a large round brush. To give locks a loose wave, wrap sections of hair varying from two to five inches around a 1-1/4-inch curling iron, leaving the ends out.
  3. Take a small amount of Dove Frizz-Free Shine Cream-Serum in your hands, rub them together and then rake fingers through the waves to break them up and give the hair amazing shine.
  4. Next, take the hair from the right side, twist it and pin it in the back with a few bobby pins. To give the hair a cool, lived-in texture, spray Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray from mid-length to ends and scrunch with your hands.
  5. Finish off the look by spraying Dove Strength & Shine Extra Hold Hairspray liberally all over to keep hair in place all night and give it even more shine.

Who wore what on the red carpet?

In the world of red carpet dressing, the SAG Awards are an opportunity in between the Globes and the Oscars to showcase a more fun or playful look on the red carpet. This year’s SAG Awards brought fashion, fabulousness and fresh looks. The trend to beat was a strapless dress that showed off your shoulders. Here are some of the best trends and what they mean for your wardrobe.

Amanda Seyfried 2013 SAG

Navy is the new black

Most frequently seen on the SAG red carpet, navy was the go-to color at this awards show. Stars such as Jennifer Lawrence, Amanda Seyfried, Nicole Kidman, Busy Philipps, Edie Falco, Jessica Lange and Carmen Electra all donned navy gowns at the SAG awards. Navy is rich, classic and sleek without just being your basic black.

What this means for you: Navy is just as slimming as black and is a color that should be all over your closet. Navy can be paired with bright pops of color for spring, cream and gold for summer, emerald green for fall and silver for winter — it is truly the color for all seasons.

Nina Dobrev 2013 SAG

Pretty in pink

Starlets Nina Dobrev, Lea Michele and Freida Pinto made a statement as they stepped out in this feminine color. Pretty yet powerful, pink served as the color to wow in and turn heads on the carpet. Red isn’t the only bright color to make you pop on the carpet — pink is a strong, standout color.

What this means for you: Don’t be afraid of pink — there is a hue that’s right for you. If you’re someone who doesn’t gravitate toward pink, start small with a pink accessory like a scarf or a clutch. Pink instantly makes a statement while keeping things feminine.

Jenna Fischer 2013 SAG Awards

It’s all about the sheer

Stars such as Anne Hathaway, Jenna Fischer, Naya Rivera and Jenna Elfman were seen rocking this spin on black. Mixing black with sheer elements creates a fashion forward fix that reinvents a traditional trend. This accent on a timeless fashion puts a twist on the basics and creates instant glam on the red carpet.

What this means for you: You can mix black and sheer with everything from a tank top to a blouse to a cocktail dress. This trend is easy to incorporate into your everyday wardrobe to give you the style of the stars.

Jessica Chastain 2013 SAG

Ladies in red

Jessica Chastain, Idina Menzel and Kaley Cuoco were among those rockin’ red on the carpet. Red will always be a staple at awards shows, but this season it has been seen in full force — expect to see it in a big way at the Oscars! Stars choose red because it is the color that stands out the most, photographs the best and instantly grabs people’s attention.

What this means for you: Make sure there is a touch of red in your closet, whether it’s a blazer, purse or a pair of shoes. Just one piece goes a long way to make you stand out.

Kerry Washington at the 2013 Awards

White hot

Who says you need to be a bride to wear a gorgeous white gown? This award show trend is NOT going anywhere. Kerry Washington, Naomi Watts, Sofia Vergara, Julianne Moore and Jayma Mays were among the stars that opted to stick with the season and wear their winter white. The contrast of white on the red carpet really makes a statement and is a bold fashion choice that can create a flawless look.

What this means for you: Incorporate white into your wardrobe by pairing a crisp white blouse with white trousers or a white blazer with white jeans. White can actually be slimming when worn monochromatically.

Jennifer Garner 2013 SAG Awards

Stunning in strapless

The biggest takeaway trend from the SAG Awards was the strapless gown. No matter what the color, cutout or embellishment, strapless was the style du jour. Always a great style for showing off a fabulous necklace, sexy collar bones and bare shoulders, a strapless dress is a classic choice that photographs beautifully.

What this means for you: When picking a dress to wear to any event you may have, pick a winning strapless look. If you don’t like to show off your arms, try a cropped jacket or shrug over this sexy style.

Actress Nicole Kidman opted for a pin-straight look for the 2013 SAG Awards. Find out how to get the same super-straight look at home!

Nicole Kidman at the 2013 SAG Awards

Think she did the simple flat-iron-and-go method? Think again: Stylist David Babaii used his talents to get the look — and now he's sharing his methods with us.

Babaii opted to show off Nicole Kidman's new solid bob with a super-straight flair — complete with a middle part.

We asked the celeb stylist to give a few tips on creating this style at home:

  1. Warm a small amount of IT&LY's Pure Water Drops in the palms of your hands before applying it through the hair.
  2. Dry the hair with a nozzle attachment and a large, round brush to make the hair completely straight. The key to getting stubborn strands straight? Control. Babaii advises you to section your hair — top, sides and back.
  3. Dry the nape areas first and then proceed upward until every section is dry.
  4. Create a sleek center part.
  5. Straighten any wayward strands with a flat iron, like IT&LY's Racing Red Professional 1" Digital Iron.

Nicole Kidman might have opted for straight hair for the 2013 SAG Awards, but she was all about the waves for the 2013 Producers Guild Awards. Find out how she got the look — straight from her hairstylist!

Nicole Kidman at the Producers Guild Awards

Nicole Kidman was in a flirty mood Saturday night at the 2013 Producers Guild Awards with a sexy half-up, half-down hairstyle. Her stylist, David Babaii, gave us the scoop on re-creating the look at home with IT&LY HAIRFASHION's eco-friendly and cruelty-free Purity Design Line.

Get the look

  1. Blow-dry your hair with a mixture of IT&LY's Pure Water Drops and Pure Fluid Experience. "This gives the hair a medium-touchable hold with no buildup plus added shine," advises Babaii.
  2. Use a medium, round brush to create soft curls and a smooth, rounded fringe.
  3. Sweep the hair to one side to create a dramatic side part.
  4. At the crown, lightly back-comb the area and gently smooth, drawing the sides and top into a sexy poof at the back.
  5. Add definition to the back and nape hair with IT&LY's Pure Water Drops.
  6. Finish by lightly misting the hair with IT&LY's Pure Definition Hair Spray.

SAG Awards: Get the look

Julianne Moore, Claire Danes and more celebs recalled old Hollywood glamour with their deep side parts at the 2013 SAG Awards.

Julianne Moore

Chris McMillan was the hair expert responsible for Game Change star Julianne Moore's shiny strands and deep side part. The inspiration? Old Hollywood glamour, of course.

"I was most inspired by style icon Veronica Lake and the blonde in the new Dior campaigns," McMillan told SheKnows. "Her Van Cleef & Arpels earrings were amazing, so we wanted to tuck her hair behind her ears to make sure they weren't invisible."

To create the style, McMillan applied Living Proof Prime Style Extender to Moore's damp, towel-dried hair and combed it through.

"Prime Style Extender gave me the sleek, healthy hair I needed for styling," McMillan said.

Then, he parted the hair on the left and blow-dried it straight with a large, round brush. Once it was dry, he applied Firm Hold Hair Spray as a heat protector and used a 1.5-inch curling iron to create an S-curve with her bang, playing up her eyes and keeping her strands away from her face.

"I then used the same iron to bend the ends under, curling the iron in a counterclockwise motion," McMillan continued. "I wanted the look to be glossy, sleek and simple."

Mission accomplished!

Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain at the 2013 SAG Awards

Zero Dark Thirty star Jessica Chastain reminded us of another famous Jessica — Jessica Rabbit, that is — with her red Alexander Wang gown and side-parted strands. Hairstylist Renato Campora created the look on behalf of Vidal Sassoon Pro Series.

Get the look:

  1. Prep wet hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse for volume without weight.
  2. Spray Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Heat Protect & Shine Spray to protect the hair from blow-dryer heat.
  3. Blow-dry the hair with a round brush. Once hair is dry, part it on one side to give extra volume.
  4. Use a 1.5-inch curling iron to curl the ends for a soft wave. When hair is cool, brush the curls out with a thin-toothed comb to soften the look.
  5. Finish with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Extra Firm Hold Hairspray around the face to make it stay in place with natural movement.

Claire Danes

Claire Danes at the 2013 SAG Awards

Hairstylist Peter Butler pulled Claire Danes' hair back into a low ponytail with a soft side part.

"If we try and make this Hollywood, it just won't work," he recalled telling the Homeland actress, so he kept it looking youthful, yet elegant, with soft pieces around the face.

"The dress is very sharp looking and I wanted to soften it by giving her a cool 'New York girl' style," he continued.

Get the look:

  1. Apply MATRIX Amplify Foam Volumizer evenly throughout wet hair to provide hold.
  2. Add texture and volume by adding Total Results Blonde Care Flash Filler Sheer Mist to the ends so they'll smooth out nicely.
  3. Dry the hair with a medium, round brush.
  4. Brush the hair into a side part and add a bit of BIOLAGE Exquisite Oil Replenishment Treatment to smooth stray hairs.
  5. Add Applied Design Pulse Mega Dust to the roots at the crown and lightly tease to provide height.
  6. Gather hair at the nape of the neck, leaving some pieces out in the front, and secure with a bungee elastic, joining the two hooks underneath the tail.
  7. Lightly spray Total Results Amplify Hairspray to keep it all together without adding stiffness.
  8. Finish with a few sprays of Blonde Care Flash Filler Sheer Mist to bring out the natural shine of the hair.

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried at the 2013 SAG Awards

Suave Professionals stylist Jenny Cho was responsible for Amanda Seyfried's sexy style.

"My inspiration for the hair was the bottom of her beautiful dress — the layers of ruffles on her fishtail dress cascading down to the floor were so elegant," Cho said.

Get the look:

  1. Wash and condition hair with Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Shine Shampoo and Conditioner.
  2. Blow-dry with a large, round brush.
  3. Make a deep side part and separate strands into four or five large sections. Wind each section around a large curling iron and hold for a few seconds.
  4. Spritz a paddle brush with Suave Professionals Touchable Finish Lightweight Hold Hairspray to created a softer, wavy look.
  5. Bring hair to one side and tuck behind the ear. Secure with a duckbill clip.
  6. Add a few drops of Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil to your palms and work through the hair.
  7. Remove the clip.

The surprising beauty benefits of massage

$
0
0
Getting a massage may seem like an unnecessary indulgence, but as it turns out, it could just save you more money on beauty in the long run. Read on to find out how.

Woman getting a massage

Better body image

Many traditional cultures use massage as a form of connection, explains Amanda Anderson, Director of Products and Services at Red Door Spa.“For example, in India, a mother massages her baby to soothe and calm the infant. When the child grows up with this as a part of his or her culture, he or she grows to massage parents and grandparents too. This is the norm, and the benefits are astounding — closer connections between the family, immediate stress reduction, improved immunity and a healthier body image.”

Healthier hair

Not only do massages relieve stress and feel good, but they also have several beauty benefits, notes TV and film makeup artist and the CEO/founder of Advanced Mineral Makeup, Annie Mayo. Your scalp is the basis of healthy hair, so taking good care of it means better strands. “Use your fingers to massage your scalp for a few minutes in the shower. This will increase blood flow, which can make your locks grow longer and reduce dandruff."

Less cellulite

If it sounds too good to be true, don’t worry, it isn’t! While a good massage relaxes the body and soul, a great massage decreases lymphatic build-up, helps prevent cellulite and increases oxygen rich blood flow to your skin cells, informs Melissa Picoli, esthetician and founder of BijaBody health + beauty. Who knew!?

Improved skin tone and texture

As Picoli mentioned, massages increase blood flow and aid in the health of your immune system through lymphatic drainage. “This basically gets rid of toxins in the body and allows more room for nutrients,” describes Mayo. And with enhanced circulation comes improved skin tone and texture. Gotta love that!

An all-season wonder

We've heard about the miraculous powers of the sea, and no other brand does a better job of harnessing its healing properties than La Mer. Does its latest Moisturizing Soft Cream live up to the hype? Read our review below.

Almost every woman has heard of Creme de la Mer, which is the result of hope, perseverance and ultimate luxury. Now the Moisturizing Soft Cream, which is a new formula with the benefits of the Creme but with a noticeably lightweight feel, has made its debut.

What it promises

The cream promises advanced absorption with a new technology and also a skin strengthening component as well as a huge improvement in moisture. The formula also promises increased radiance using lightweight spheres, and a deeply penetrating moisture . The Moisturizing Soft Creme also contains the brand's well-known Miracle Broth, which has long since been known to heal skin and help it regenerate and transform itself. The new formula also promises clarity. For skin that is prone to irritation or redness, the formula promises calmness and relief.

How it held up

There's no question that some women who purchase the Moisturizing Soft Cream want a more lightweight version of the standard La Mer cream . And now, the Moisturizing Soft Cream has answered the prayers of many women who have combination skin or just want a lightweight option but with the same properties of the original Creme de la Mer.

Thanks to the latest breakthrough in La Mer's scientific lab, the moisturizing spheres are the ones that create that truly lightweight feel. The spheres are created from two phases: the first is a lipid phase which consists of protective emollients responsible for the smooth, lightweight texture in the cream, and the second is an aqueous phase containing Miracle Broth and Lime Tea.

The key results? The small spheres penetrate the deep layers of the skin and are absorbed from top to toe. This revolutionary formula is what makes this moisturizing cream both lightweight and hydrating at the same time.

The bottom line: We felt that our skin's hydration levels visibly improved without feeling heavy and thick as we typically felt with the original Creme de la Mer. The Moisturizing Soft Cream is apropos for combination skin types and for the warmer summer months too when you need something a bit more fine and lightweight.

With the price point being similar to that of the original La Mer cream , the Soft Cream is one to opt for if you really need it. It's not quite as light as the Moisturizing Gel Cream, which is best suited for warmer weather, but it sits comfortably in the middle and is actually perfect for all seasons.

Everyone wants Kate Middleton's nose

$

We've drooled over Kate Middleton's style for a couple of years now, but a few enterprising women are going beyond that in their search for the Kate Middleton look. That's right: An increasing number of women are asking for Kate Middleton's nose at the plastic surgeon's office.

Kate Middleton

If you could have plastic surgery to look like one celebrity, which celeb would you choose? If you're like thousands of other women, you'd opt for getting Kate Middleton's nose.

According to the U.K. Daily Mail, the interest in a Duchess of Cambridge–esque snout has gone through the roof since 2011.

And it's not surprising to at least one plastic surgeon.

"Her nose is straight with a cute, rounded tip and is perfectly in proportion to her face," plastic surgeon Maurizio Persico told the newspaper. "This gives Kate an attractive and striking profile."

"Plus, she always looks happy and confident in photos, which is especially appealing to women whose own appearance makes them unhappy — those who feel self-conscious about larger or crooked noses, which they believe dominate their faces."

Another medical pro said that part of the appeal is Middleton's nose's perfect symmetry.

"The angle between her lip and the tip of her nose and the minimal amount of nostril on show, are all near-perfect," psychologist Carmen Lefevre told the paper.

The newspaper also got the inside scoop from a few ladies that went for the Kate nose — and their results are pretty spot-on.

"I've admired Kate since she first got engaged to William. I've tried to copy her natural make-up and long, glossy hair style: she always looks so effortlessly groomed. But it was her perfect nose — narrow and petite, with a subtle upturn — that always caught my eye in pictures," Sarah Hattley said.

"I turned up to my first appointment armed with photos of Kate. My surgeon said he'd do his best to adapt it to suit my face," she continued, adding that it's not exactly like the pregnant duchess' nose, but it's close. "Within a few weeks the swelling and bruising had subsided, and I loved my nose. It's not exactly like Kate's — the bridge of my nose looks slightly higher, but the width and nostrils are the same."

The price? Nearly $7,800.

We're sure a lot of the patients would argue that it's worth the cost, but they were beautiful before.

Friday's Fashion Obsessions: Nina Dobrev and Amanda Seyfried

It's Friday's Fashion Obsessions SAG Awards edition! Find out which celeb styles made me do a double take this week.

Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev

The lovely Nina Dobrev looked pretty in pink at the SAG Awards in her hot pink Elie Saab short sleeve gown. On a red carpet where blacks and blues were all the rage, the bright hue was a welcome surprise!

The star of The Vampire Diaries is still in the early stages of her red carpet style evolution, but I can already tell that she's one worth watching. Nina looked darling in this punchy pink hue and the short-sleeve was a nice departure from her uniform of sleeveless and strapless gowns.

From the chic updo and soft makeup to her glittery accessories, Nina brought a nice dose of color to the red carpet Sunday night. Something else I'm digging? Those lacy slits! Cutouts are making a comeback and have been showing up on all of Hollywood's hottest stars, and this was a classy way to work the trend for the red carpet.

The final verdict? She might not star in Oscar-worthy movies just yet, but mark my word, Nina is one to watch — professionally and style-wise.

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried

I know I'm not the only one obsessing over Amanda Seyfried's stunning navy Zac Posen gown. The Les Miserables star has been topping best dressed lists all over the web this week and for good reason.

Sure, she practically had to hold on to her publicist the whole length of the red carpet to walk in that monstrosity of a train, but any inconvenience was well worth it if you ask me! Amanda created a major fashion moment with this dress. Everything from the way the navy hue complements her delicate skin tone to the way her hair flows ever so perfectly over her shoulder wows me.

Another thing I love? That necklace! At first I was kind of iffy, thinking that Amanda should have paired the look with a more dainty necklace, but the more I studied the ensemble, the more I came to love the way the long pendant adds a more casual element to what is otherwise a totally glam look.

The final verdict? I have a feeling that this isn't the last we'll see of this gem of a dress. Yep folks, this is going to be one of the SAG Awards dresses that will live in fashion history for a long time to come.

We're obsessed!

We have a total crush on Nina Dobrev's chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!

I'll just say it: I'm continually amazed by the braided updos the hottest celebs have been wearing lately. Stylists everywhere are pushing some serious hair limits and pumping out totally chic 'dos that make me weak in the knees! So what's my latest obsession? Nina Dobrev's complex bun.

The The Vampire Diaries star rocked an adorable topknot to the InStyle and Warner Bros. Golden Globe after party recently and I was pleasantly surprised to see the back of this 'do. As if the cute topknot detail wasn't enough, Nina had to look even more fab with a braided back. Awesome, right?

I tracked down stylist Riawna Capri of Nine Zero One Salon to find out how she created this genius look and asked her to give us all some pointers for getting it at home on our own.

Friday's Fashion Fails: January Jones and Julianne Moore

$

Oops... even celebrities get it wrong sometimes! We're telling you why January Jones and Julianne Moore's SAG Awards fashions fell short in our weekly feature. Learn from the stars' sartorial slip ups!

January Jones at the SAG Awards

January Jones

January Jones is never afraid to take a fashion risk, but they don't always pay off. Case in point: this Prabal Gurung gown she chose for the Screen Actors' Guild Awards in Hollywood on Sunday. This dress is from the pre-fall 2013 runway collection. January actually added a longer skirt to the original cocktail length version, but there's just no saving this look.

Black and white can be such a glam combo when done right, but the top, collared white accent on this ebony gown is reminiscent of a bib. Is she taking style inspiration from her infant son Xander these days? Adding a longer train to the original scalloped hemline is odd as well, and looks haphazard.

Not only is this dress not her best look, but who did the Mad Men starlet's hair and makeup? Poor January must still be in retro character with her pompadour hairdo and bright orange lips.

The final verdict? We know you can do so much better, January! You were stunning in red Versace a few Golden Globes ago with a more natural coif and matching red lip. Try sticking to a colorful dress and a more traditional hairstyle for a look we love.

Julianne Moore at the SAG awards

Julianne Moore

What's black and white and flowered all over? Julianne Moore at the SAG Awards in a Chanel Haute Couture dress. Perhaps she borrowed Sienna Miller's stylist, who sported a similarly flower powered gown at the Golden Globes.

The flower applique thing is not working for us. Remember Bedazzlers in the '80s, where you'd add jewels to your clothes, and patches, which you'd iron onto your denim jacket? It wasn't a good look then and it's not a good look more than 20 years later, either. Couture should not look DIY, ladies.

We loved Julianne's contrasting black and white look at the 2013 Golden Globes, so we know she's got it in her to make best dressed next time.

The final verdict? While the white dress combined with Julianne's pale complexion washes her out, we do think her red hair looks lovely. Her mega bling accessories are nice, but let's hope she also added some double stick tape under the super low-cut gown.
