With the London Summer Games upon us, we wanted to have a little fun with fashion and hold a medal ceremony of our own to honor our favorite Canadian designers. While the list could have been a lot longer , we narrowed our picks down to three standouts worth getting to know.
Top spot:
Dsquared2
Dsquared2 designers Dean and Dan Caten, have built a mega-brand that continues to grow and push the boundaries of fashion. They create looks for men and women that stand out for their impeccable tailoring mixed with a fresh energy and playful, sexy vibe we love. Their clients include some of the biggest names in pop music, including Britney Spears , Mariah Carey, Fergie and Rihanna, to name-drop a few. Even Madonna wore a pair of Dsquared2 jeans in her 2000 video for "Don't Tell Me."

Second place:
Pink Tartan
Known for clean lines, elegant sophistication and urban femininity, Kimberley Newport-Mimran’s women’s wear line offers classic pieces with a contemporary spin. She focuses her keen eye for detail and knowledge of what works on a woman’s body on wardrobe essentials like the perfect tailored white shirt, pants that fit well and flatter, chic yet functional outerwear and polished yet easy-wearing evening wear. The New York showroom opened in 2004, and the line is now housed at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, as well as specialty stores across North America, Dubai and Seoul. For fall 2012, expect bright pops of lush color amid a palette heavy on gray, white and black.
Bonus: Kimberley’s husband, Joe Mimran, is the designer behind another one of our fave Canadian brands,
Joe Fresh. It’s fun, affordable and always on-trend.

Third place:
Eve Gravel
Retro with a sexy, sophisticated spin, Montreal’s Eve Gravel deserves a spot on our list for consistently building on her ability to create clothing that not only flatters, but makes the wearer feel confident and effortlessly pulled together. Gravel’s designs may be understated, but they maintain a sense of fun that gives every piece its own personality. From flirty, ethereal dresses to more structured separates, there’s something for everyone among her multifaceted yet totally cohesive collections.
