Pearlescent shine that works

Burt's Bees has always put on a great show when it comes to natural products. Now the spotlight this season is on the new lip offerings. From lip gloss to natural lip shines, check out what we think about the new launches.

I've always been a huge fan of Burt's Bees. When I was pregnant, their Mama Bee line came to my rescue, and I felt so good about slathering essential oils and applying tinted lip balms until I was blue in the face. Their products are always so lip-smacking good that I was eager to test their new spring lip launches.

Lip Glosses

The brand partnered with celebrity makeup artist Katey Denno, a green junkie who uses only the greenest of beauty products to suit her lifestyle. She loved the new color payoff and formula.

New this spring are their natural lip glosses which have a pearlescent finish. Infused with botanical oils as well as beeswax, the lip glosses boast ingredients that are really safe enough to cook with, including jojoba esters and sunflower polyglycerides. The glosses also have a pleasing fragrance to them, a universally palatable light vanilla scent. They come in 12 shades including the Neutrals: Autumn Haze, Fall Foliage, Sweet Sunset, Sunny Day; Pinks: Ocean Sunrise, Rosy Dawn, Spring Splendor, Summer Twilight; Reds: Evening Glow, Ruby Moon, Nearly Dusk and Starry Night.

The glosses are highly emollient, thanks to the botanical oils, so you'll feel great about slathering them on day after day. Plus, the colors are not too pigmented , and so they'll pair very nicely with your spring wardrobe which is all about pastel shades and lighter colors.

The key ingredient in the gloss is sunflower oil, which readily absorbs into skin and won't leave it oily. It's also great for nourishing the lips with essential fatty acids. These moisturize like nothing we've seen — plus give your lips a pearlescent finish. For the price, this is tremendous value.

Lip Shines

The completely natural formula of the lip shines ensures that these are perfect for the woman committed to a green lifestyle. The result of using these lip shines is sheer, glassy color and hydration.

I was surprised at not only the color payoff but the hydration of the glosses. Typically, glosses do leave lips feeling sticky , but these don't ever do that. The hydration lasted two hours before I had to reapply. You're not going to get a long-lasting color , but if you do reapply, you're good to go for at least one to two hours.

The colors are subtle and range from Whisper, Blush and Wink, to darker shades like Flutter, Pucker and Smooch. The tubes are long, sleek and are made from recycled plastic.

Both of these new products hit shelves in March 2013.
