After Haiti was devastated by an earthquake, DKNY designer Donna Karan wanted to help. She's partnered with American Express to sell handcrafted horn bracelets from the country exclusively on Twitter.

Trends come and go in fashion, but Donna Karan knows giving back is always in style. The DKNY designer took a break in between her New York Fashion Week shows to chat about conscious consumerism on Wednesday at the American Express Skybox. She also shared why Haiti is so close to her heart.

"We can create jobs; we can create meaning; we can create consciousness; we can create the change."

"Haiti is a commitment that I've made and I hope every single designer makes to get involved... to work with the people there," she said. "This is not just an earthquake that happened. This is a country that needs to be redeveloped. We shot Adriana Lima down in Haiti. Last spring, I shot my entire fall campaign down in Haiti. It's all about bringing people down to see the endless possibilities."

Even if you can't make it down to Haiti, you can help the cause by buying the handcrafted horn bracelet, with proceeds benefiting the citizens there, by just using a hashtag  on Twitter.

"This is couture," she explained. "It's a couture bracelet made by hand in Haiti!"

But why did she decide to sell them strictly using social media? "No one person can do anything and I think that's the beauty of Twitter... creating a community of consciousness and change," she explained. "We can create jobs; we can create meaning; we can create consciousness; we can create the change. And the beauty of this Twitter opportunity is phenomenal."
