“I’ve been noticing a lot lately that girls have been almost ashamed to say that they love makeup," Dutch YouTube star Nikkie from NikkieTutorials says in her new video, The Power of MAKEUP. “Nowadays when you say you love makeup, you either do it because you want to look good for boys, you do it because you’re insecure, or you do it because you don’t love yourself.”

“By no means do I want to say that if you have insecurities that you should just slap makeup on, feel better, and just never be content with your own self,” Nikkie adds in the video. “I just want people to know that makeup is fun and there are no rules.”
One of Nikkie's fellow vloggers, Stephanie Lange, posted a similar video calling out the nasty comments she gets about her makeup preferences.

"I am so sick of people being made to feel like they're 'ugly' without their makeup on, or that they're wearing a 'mask' if they do dare to put makeup on. NO — people don't wear makeup because they're insecure, or because they're naturally 'ugly'. (sic) People wear makeup because it's fun, and it's a form of self expression (sic). I AM SICK OF PEOPLE BEING MADE TO FEEL LIKE THEIR BARE FACE IS UGLY, OR TO BE SHAMED FOR WEARING MAKEUP."
Whether it's wearing makeup or dying underarm hair, the message is clear: Do what you want with your body, period.
