Niamh, Harry and Terence decided to team up to find their true doppelgängers through a project they called "Twin Strangers." The idea behind the project was relatively simple — they heard that everyone has seven stranger twins in the world, and they decided to go on a global mission (using social media mainly) to find theirs. They gave themselves one month to do it, and they also made it interesting by making it a bit of a competition. Each friend documented their search online through video blogs, updating their followers on possible twin candidates, mismatches and non-responders.

After just two weeks, Niamh found a very promising candidate through social media named Karen Branigan, who strangely enough lived only an hour away in Ireland. The two decided to meet up to see just how similar they were to each other. Their resemblance is mind-boggling to say the least. Check out the video of their first encounter, and you'll see what I mean.

How crazy is that? Once they put on the same clothes and makeup, it looks like there's been a glitch in the matrix. YouTubers were obviously just as amazed as I was, because the video went viral, which in turn jumpstarted the three friends' project like nothing else could have. However, Niamh remains the only one to have found her true stranger twin. Sorry, boys — I suppose women are just better at this game.

Niamh and Karen are 26 and 29 respectively, and say that they look more like each other than any of their own sisters. Niamh told the Daily Mail UK, "For the entire duration of our encounter I pretty much stared at her. I couldn't get over her face, and some of the expressions she would pull I would think to myself or say aloud, "Oh my God that’s my face." While I'm sure it would be cool, I have a feeling my initial reaction to my own doppelgänger would be more like this:

I'm not saying I'd be sure it was a pod person, but I'd definitely be wary of them. Niamh said Karen is definitely the shyer of the two of them, but that it's totally understandable since Niamh was the one who sought her out so publicly. "I knew what search I was embarking on. I’m the weirdo that contacted Karen out of the blue and asked her to meet me in person." Since the meeting, the girls have been chatting it up on Facebook. If nothing else, they've made good friends with someone who could help them play awesome pranks on their other friends.

So far, Niamh has come the closest to finding her stranger twin, but the contest isn't over until April 27, so the boys still have some time. They seem to think guys are a bit more hesitant to open up to a stranger in this way, but now that the contest is viral, perhaps they'll have more luck. They've also opened up their Facebook page to others around the world who wish to find their own doppelgänger. So if the idea of looking at yourself in another person doesn't freak you out too much, put your picture up there, and give your stranger twin luck a try.
