SheKnows: We hear you have a great closet. What fall trends are you keeping in there and what spring trends are you excited to add?
Mary Alice: A little bit of leather – a touch of lace, fun playful patterns and prints. Loads of sexy clothes done in a ladylike way. The perfect pump, a peplum skirt, colorful pants, shades of red and dresses with cutouts that embrace my curves.
SheKnows: What are your favorite places to shop in NYC and in Brooklyn?
Mary Alice: In Dumbo, Brooklyn I do most of my fashion week shopping at Zoe. They have so many of my faves: Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang and Céline. In the city I get ladylike at Bergdorf Goodman, and downtown cool at Kirna Zabete. All my glam comes from Lanvin and I get stiletto-ed to the max at Saks. When I’m in a pinch and there’s no time to shop, I love that Net-A-Porter will deliver same day!
SheKnows: What are some easy ways to up the ante of your look when you’re feeling a little frumpy or sad?
Mary Alice: Jewelry adds soul to style, so brighten your day the fashionista way. Everything looks better with jewelry on top. Throw on some rings, wear a cuff or add a pendant necklace to pretty it up.
SheKnows: What are some beauty trends you’ve been noticing backstage lately?
Mary Alice: Strong brows. Nude lips. A pop of color on your lids or nail tips. Part your hair in the middle, pull it back behind your ears or try a ladylike updo.
SheKnows: What are three things you never leave the house without?
Mary Alice: My iPhone, iPad and lots of eye candy.
SheKnows: Who is one celebrity you’re just dying to style? And what would you dress her in?
Mary Alice: Kate Middleton always looks great, but I’d love to see her have more fun with fashion in a downtown cool kind of way – Narciso Rodriguez, Altuzarra, Rodarte or Cushnie + Ochs would do the trick.
SheKnows: Are there any red carpet looks you’ve styled that you’d redo?
Mary Alice: To quote the Editor in Chief of Harper’s Bazaar, Glenda Bailey, “Fashion is what’s right, right now.” I’m thankful for all the amazing red carpet moments I’ve created and try to always look forward, never back.
