This bohemian braided band or maiden braid is super pretty and versatile. It’s fancy enough for an event like a baby shower or party and casual enough to wear to the park with your kids or running errands.
If you know how to do a simple three-strand braid, you can master this style in about five minutes. All you need are some small hair bands, a few bobby pins and hairspray.
So gather your materials and let’s get started. View the step-by-step instructions below.
Section your hair, and then divide it down the center into 2 equal sections.
Tie each section into a ponytail just behind your ear using a small hair band. If your hair is longer, you can start lower by the nape.
Braid each ponytail all the way to the ends and secure with another hair band.
Gently pull on the sides of the braid to make it wider and to loosen the braid. This step is very important, especially if you don’t have a ton of hair. It also gives your braid a softer, messier look.
Now position the first braid. Hold 1 braid up against your scalp and position it where you would put a headband.
Pin the braid in place with bobby pins to secure it to your head starting at the base of the braid. Cross the pins for added strength.
Repeat on the other side. Position your second braid, folding the ends under each other at the top of your head to hide the bands and pin in place.
Finally, carefully cut out the hair bands at the base of your braids. Voilà! Finish with a spritz of hairspray and your pretty boho-chic style is complete.
