Are you suffering from post-holiday guilt because of the excess food intake and lack of exercise? You’re not alone. What is done is done and more guilt only brings bad feelings. There’s no day like today to start making healthier choices, and living in the now is the best way you can impact the future.

The same thing rings true when it comes to trying out new makeup looks and trends. They all seem like a fun idea, but you are never quite able to get around to incorporating them into your daily beauty routine. “Maybe next week…?” NOT! Fret not, love, I'm here to show you how to have a bit more fun experimenting with makeup this year!

Graphic eyeliner

The latest graphic eyeliner and this new colorful eyeshadow duo sitting in your makeup bag all need to find their way into your comfort zone. Practice makes perfect. However, I know that snooze button gets a daily workout, so getting ready for work is definitely not the best time for makeup experimentation. How about scheduling on your smartphone a 5-minute appointment with yourself for some “how-to” me time? You could sure benefit from a few coffee break minutes to try out a new eye makeup technique then jump right back into work mode with a fresh pair of eyes . How about just before leaving the office at the end of the day or fresh out of the shower at the gym? Once this express pampering session is scheduled, the odds of this self-learning experience actually happening increase tremendously.

2

Watch YouTube tutorials

Next time you see an awe-inspiring makeup look on the net or in a storefront window, snap a picture for future reference. Inspiration abounds on YouTube with its countless blogs and how-to videos. Don’t be shy to ask a beauty consultant in a makeup store near you to show you how to best reproduce this highlighting/contouring you have never dared to try. The trick is to have the artist demonstrate on one side of your face first and then do the other side yourself. And if you ever hear a sales person say, “I can do both sides if you purchase the product,” just RUN and never come back! No one should ever feel pressured to buy makeup .

3

Just do it!

makeup brushes

The best way to leave behind any fear of trying new things or aspire to improve your application skills is by simply diving right into it over and over again. No amount of makeup lessons will ever parallel learning from your own mistakes. I can honestly say that I have reached the level of confidence and skills I have today from pushing myself to try new things and by always switching up product textures, colors and tools. “Make it work” moments often lead to surprising makeup shortcuts! For example, use eye cream to correct crooked eyeliner or try smudging waterproof black mascara all around your eyes for the perfect long wear smoky eye.

One of the main reasons why I love being a makeup artist is that I enjoy the instant gratification and powerful feature enhancement it allows. With only a few brush strokes or a hot new lip color, you can express how you truly feel inside at a specific moment in time. This makeup magic is ever so satisfying and I think that’s why thousands of women spend five, 10, 15 or even 30 minutes alone with themselves every day in front of a mirror to re-invent the way they feel. Go on, do what it takes to face the day with renewed energy. Ring out the old foundation and ring in a fresh new complexion!

We're obsessed with Jennifer Aniston's leather dress

We really, really, really want the dress Jennifer Aniston wore to the 2013 People's Choice Awards. Or maybe we just want to be Jennifer Aniston?

Jennifer Aniston

OK, we'll admit that we were really surprised to see Jennifer Aniston show up to accept her People's Choice Award for Favorite Comedic Actress.

But, she did. And we're so glad she came.

Our favorite Friends star showed up at the show wearing a badass black leather dress by Christian Dior. Aniston paired the flirty outfit with Fred Leighton jewelry and ankle-strap heels.

Seriously, she looked like a superhero.

Worst dressed at the 2013 People's Choice Awards >>

And that's the look Aniston was going for, according to her styling team — the "bad girl in a pretty dress" aesthetic. However, her hair guru, Chris McMillan, said he wanted to keep it "California babysitter" up top.

"It's that hair that I always thought was cool when the sitter came over," he told People on Thursday, adding that he used her line of Living Proof hair products to create the look. "It's just good, sexy hair."

All the leather fumes must be going to her head, too: She recently revealed that she doesn't have anything against another leather-loving star.

"There’s nothing wrong with Kim Kardashian and all those people," the Wanderlust star says in the upcoming celebrity culture documentary $ellebrity. "If that's how they choose to make a living, more power to them."

Don't expect Jen to be a willing participant in all that tabloid drama, though—and she's had more than enough of her own, thanks to the years-long Jen vs. Angelina Jolie garbage.

"My line of work is different," she added. "I want to entertain people."

Julianne Hough had one of the best looks of the night at the People's Choice Awards. The Safe Haven star struck a pretty pose in her Tony Ward Couture dress and soft makeup.

Her makeup artist, Molly Stern, revealed which products she used to give Hough the soft, pink look inspired by a "rockabilly princess."

We have to admit, though, that her glowing look probably comes from her happy relationship with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest. She recently told Entertainment Tonight that he makes her so happy all the time.

"[He's] very thoughtful and very generous... Things that you wouldn't think a guy would even pick up on he's already done five steps ago," she said.

Seacrest can balance 5 million jobs and help her around the house? He has to be a robot.

We're obsessed!

We have a total crush on Anne Hathaway's chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!

Geez Anne Hathaway, stop looking so darn good for God's sake! You're making the rest of us mere mortals look bad. Totally kidding, girl, I'm kind of obsessed with your style.

This week, the Les Miserables star showed off her ever-evolving pixie cut at a gala in NYC and I suddenly decided that I really do like her new cropped locks. At first, I wasn't so sure, but now that I see the look evolving, I'm coming to love it along with Anne's attitude more and more. So what caused this sudden change of heart? One word: bangs. The jagged and piecey bangs have turned Anne's look from a don't to a total do and help make the look more feminine.

Oribe's Original Pomade

Tempted to sport your own pixie look with bangs? Make sure to use a shine-enhancing product while blow-drying. Want that piecey look that Anne's totally rocking? Get yourself some pomade, girl. Our fave? Oribe's Original Pomade.

We're loving Anne's cute hairstyle! How about you? Sound off in the comments! And check out other celebrity hairstyles!

Friday's Fashion Obsessions: Sarah Hyland and Lisa Rinna

Sarah Hyland and Lisa Rinna's beautiful celebrity styles made us do a double take this week! We're telling you why in this week's installment of Friday’s Fashion Obsessions.

Sarah Hyland

Sarah Hyland

Sarah Hyland is becoming quite the regular fixture on Friday's Fashion Obsessions. This week, she blew me away with the tres adorable dress she wore to the LA premiere of Struck By Lightning.

This dress gives new meaning to the phrase "Business in the front, party in the back." No seriously, the super cute tail — for lack of a better word here — is so fun. Now I know a lot of you might disagree — the look is a bit bridal, after all — but I think it's refreshing to see a young star taking subtle fashion risks. With all the Ke$has and Lady Gagas out there these days, it's nice to see that young starlets don't have to show off their scantily clad bodies to make a fashion statement.

The final verdict? The look is super chic from head to toe — except those shoes. They look a size too big for petite Hyland. But we'll let that slide.

Lisa RinnaLisa Rinna

Now this is how to do black on black on black, ladies: Add a pop of color! Whether you choose red, yellow or pink like Lisa Rinna did here, this is the perfect way to avoid looking like you're heading to a funeral.

What I love the most about this outfit is the fact that it's totally easy to recreate. Think about it: Most women have a pair of glossy black pumps, a colorful blazer, a sequined black top and black pants. If you're missing any of the items in your wardrobe, don't run out to the mall so fast. You can always substitute leather pants with shiny black leggings and a long black tunic if you have to improvise. And swap out the pink blazer for a super cute and colorful sweater or cropped jacket.

The final verdict? Simple, sexy and classy. Loving it!

Friday's Fashion Fails: Katharine McPhee and Chloe Moretz

Oops... even celebrities get it wrong sometimes! We're telling you why Katharine McPhee and Chloe Moretz's fashions fell short in our weekly feature. Learn from the stars' sartorial slip ups!

Katharine McPhee

Katharine McPhee

Did Katharine McPhee change in the limo ride over to the NBCUniversal Winter TCA Tour and forget to switch her shoes? This is the outfit she chose for her press day to promote her series Smash and it's not exactly a smash hit in our book.

The hi-low animal printed dress is on trend, and we don't mind the sheer top. But what is with the studded black sneakers she's also sporting? Who does she think she is, Kristen Stewart?

Comfy kicks have no place on the red carpet when you're promoting your TV series, Kat! Save these shoes for when you're running errands and rock them with a pair of skinny jeans, not a dress.

The final verdict? Where was her stylist on this one? We also think her hair looks a bit messy here and we wouldn't have gone with a red lip to complete this ensemble. We know you can do better, Katharine!

Chloe Moretz

Chloe Moretz

It's great that Chloe Moretz is giving back. Here's the Hugo actress at Aeropostale and DoSomething.org's 6th Annual Teens for Jeans event in West Hollywood. So we're going to give her some advice back: snap a quick cell phone self pic before leaving the house to make sure nothing is see through!

Chloe is a relative newcomer to the red carpet scene, so maybe she's not familiar with one of the age old fashion rules: flashbulbs can make sheer things see through. Her outfit isn't bad, but we can totally see her bra through her top.

Since Chloe is only 15, we'd also love to see her experiment with some color and break away from this all-black, Gothic look she's sporting.

The final verdict? Her feline flats are cute, but they don't quite mesh with this rocker chic look. We'd pair them with polka dots and a collared shirt like Taylor Swift did recently.

Best (and worst) dressed at the Critics' Choice Awards

The 2013 Critics' Choice Awards were a memorable affair, both for the movies and the fashion.

Elle Fanning and Jennifer Lawrence

We spent a good part of Thursday night schmoozing with celebrities at the 2013 Critics' Choice Awards. Naturally, they all looked fab — but a few looked better than others.

Best dressed

Emily Blunt, Naomi Watts and Marion Cotillard looked amazing at the show, but Jennifer Lawrence was definitely the best dressed of the night in her black Prabal Gurung gown.

Then again, it seems we're really into leather these days.

Lawrence wasn't just there to look pretty, though: She won two awards during the show. Her first — Best Actress in an Action Movie — was for her role as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games. The second — Best Actress in a Comedy — went for her role opposite Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook.

Worst dressed

On the other hand, teen actress Elle Fanning left a lot to be desired in her head-to-toe Chanel look. We like the dress, but it's definitely not awards-show worthy.

And don't even get us started on the platform sandals.

Fanning's made no secret of her love of vintage and hippy-inspired fashion, so we're not surprised she opted for this ensemble.

"For my own style, I love vintage — '60s and '70s are my favorite," she told Seventeen last year. "I love baby doll dresses and the soft colors. I try to mix a little bit of modern into that — maybe I'll wear it with boots. At my school we wear a uniform, but we have one day a week we can wear whatever we want."

Makes a lot more sense now!

Are pants making a comeback?

$

Will 2013 be the year of pants? It seems like it, judging from the outfits Lena Dunham and Homeland star Morena Baccarin rocked recently.

Lena Dunham and Morena Baccarin

Most stars opt to wear dresses to big events, but a few are bucking the trend by opting for pants on the red carpet.

Case in point: Lena Dunham and Homeland star Morena Baccarin at the People's Choice Awards.

The Girls writer, director and star opted for a black Valentino pantsuit for the show's Season 2 premiere earlier this week. The big secret behind the look? No undergarments.

"I'm not wearing underwear," she told reporters on the red carpet.

At least going commando gave her the confidence to wear the form-fitting jumpsuit in the first place.

"I didn't think I could get away with [wearing it] because 'jumpsuit' seems like such a dirty word," the 26-year-old added. "But people are acting like it's a normal thing to do, so I'm just rolling with it."

It seems like everyone has been talking about Dunham and her fashion choices — or non-choices. She's often without pants on her hit HBO show, and her character, Hannah, also rocks a mesh shirt this season.

People might criticize her for it, but she just doesn't care.

"Now, meeting actresses who such a big part of their job is about what they look like, I feel so lucky to be freed from that prison," she told V magazine earlier this month. "I ate cake for breakfast on the day of the Emmys, I ate cake for dinner, my workout didn't require Spanx, and I still feel like I looked better than people expected me to. It was amazing."

SK: What has been your favorite dress at the Golden Globes thus far in your career?

SV: Last year's Vera Wang gown was very special. It's something I don't think anyone had seen on the red carpet before with the color and the texture. It was different.

SK: What does your Sunday look like for you? How long does it take you to get ready for the red carpet?

SV: Like three days! Haha. I have to get all glamified for that day. But it's fun! We've done it so many times. But in reality, it takes about an hour and a half, but we enjoy taking our time. We like to order food and drinks, and start the party early!

In honor of tonight's Golden Globe Awards, we’re taking a look back at some of our favorite hairstyles starting with the 57th edition of the annual awards show in 2000.

2000: Halle Berry

Our first look back at great hair at the Golden Globes features gorgeous Halle Berry, a winner that year for best actress in a miniseries . The hair is classic Halle: short, sexy and tousled for a look that screams award-winning confidence.

Not everyone can pull off the oversize updo, but if anyone can do it with poise and elegance, it’s Julia Roberts. She did it at the 2001 Golden Globes where she took top acting prize for her role in legal drama Erin Brockovich.

2002: Reese Witherspoon

2002: Reese Witherspoon

Eternal sweetheart Reese Witherspoon switched things up with her tresses in 2002, and instead of keeping things long and sleek, she gave us pretty pin curls that showed off her heart-shaped face and added some sex appeal to her Golden Globes look.

2003: Kate Hudson

If anyone is the consummate expert in achieving the best in beachy waves, it’s Kate Hudson who did not disappoint at the 60th annual Golden Globes. The soft, shoulder length waves looked great with her strapless Valentino dress.

2004: Charlize Theron

2004: Charlize Theron

Stunner Charlize Theron stole the show where hair was concerned in 2004 when she showed up on the red carpet in a romantic side-swept wavy style with the addition of a chic clip completing the look. The delicate yet flattering style perfectly complemented her pale yellow Dior dress.

2005: Emmy Rossum

2005: Emmy Rossum

On the wrong person in the wrong outfit, ringlets don’t always make for a sophisticated hairstyle, but in 2005, Emmy Rossum really made ringlets work. They were bouncy, shiny and her hair was long enough to make the look chic versus childish.

2006: Natalie Portman

Some faces are made for short hair and Natalie Portman has one of those faces. Her perfect pixie cut at the 63rd Golden Globes is a great example of just how fresh, fun and gorgeous a short haircut can be.

 2007: Emmanuelle Chriqui

2007: Emmanuelle Chriqui

Tanned, toned and always polished, Emmanuelle Chriqui showed up at the Golden Globes in 2007 with a wow-worthy hairstyle right out of the 1960s — and we loved it. Bouffant on top and long and tousled everywhere else, the look was perfectly suited to the mod green cocktail dress.

In 2008 the Golden Globes were canceled due to the Writers Guild of America strike that started the previous fall.

2009: Elizabeth Banks

The serious bling here really takes this award-worthy hairstyle up a few notches. We love how the sparkly accessory draws just enough attention to her look while also acting as a secondary piece of jewelry.

2010: Amanda Seyfried

2010: Amanda Seyfried

There’s something totally timeless about long, loose blond waves, and in 2010, Amanda Seyfried owned this look and made it look easy. At first glance, the style might seem too simple, but we think that’s what makes it chic.

2011: Jennifer Westfeldt

2011: Jennifer Westfeldt

Another blonde Golden Globes look we loved was from John Hamm’s other half Jennifer Westfeldt, who wore a relaxed yet elegant style to the awards show that year. The delicate waves are well-accompanied by a sleek gown and pretty drop earrings.

2012: Rooney Mara

Last year’s it-girl Rooney Mara offered a refreshing departure from all those longer looks and feminine updos. Her Golden Globes hairstyle was sophisticated with an edge that we thought totally suited the girl with the dragon tattoo.

Lena Dunham hit a home run at the 2013 Golden Globes in her Zac Posen dress.

Lena Dunham at the Golden Globes

Lena Dunham might like to keep people's expectations low, but she might have to rethink that after the 2013 Golden Globes. The Girls writer and creator shows up on the red carpet in a brown Zac Posen creation.

The review? She looks fabulous — even if the dress isn't cooperating.

"My breasts have a tendency to shove my dress to the left, so I have to shove it back," she told E! on the red carpet of her mini-wardrobe malfunction.

The 26-year-old actress recently told V magazine that she doesn't put much thought into the whole Hollywood fashion game.

"Now, meeting actresses who such a big part of their job is about what they look like, I feel so lucky to be freed from that prison," she said. "I ate cake for breakfast on the day of the Emmys, I ate cake for dinner, my workout didn't require Spanx, and I still feel like I looked better than people expected me to. It was amazing."

In fact, she tweeted that she'd rather be in bed watching Girls.

"I am excited for the Golden Globes/sad I won't be in bed with dumplings reading your twitter responses to the @girlsHBO season premiere," Dunham tweeted before arriving at the red carpet.

The reason? Her fab dress was killing her.

"If Golden Globes support garment kills me I leave my archives to my mother and my ephemera to my 8 year old friend Coco," she added.

Claire Danes and Megan Fox at the 2013 Golden Globes

Mom's night out!

New moms Megan Fox and Claire Danes walked the red carpet at the 2013 Golden Globes in skin-tight dresses — just weeks after giving birth.

It's really, really not fair.

Fox was one of the first celebs to walk the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton with husband Brian Austin Green. The This is 40 actress opted for a Dolce & Gabbana dress with Jimmy Choo heels, LorraineSchwartzjewels, and a SalvatoreFerragamoclutch.

"It's tight, it's lacy and that's all there is to it!" she told reporters on the red carpet.

Looks like she's lost the tiny remainder of her 23-pound baby gain, even if she can't work out.

"I can't work out yet because my body is still too fragile," she told The Huffington Post in December. "I try to eat whatever I want, but I don't eat any dairy, and I guess that's the biggest diet tip."

Claire Danes just gave birth to son Cyrus in mid December, but she's already back in fighting form in her Versace dress. The new mom told reporters on the red carpet that she's worried about leaking breast milk onto her designer gown.

"I tried [my dress] on for the first time last night around 9," Danes told reporters of the gown. "How could I refuse?"

We're glad you didn't, Claire!

Love Claire Danes' Golden Globes look? We got the lowdown from her makeup artist, Matin Maulawizada.

Claire Danes' makeup at the Golden GlobesHomeland star Claire Danes made a splash at the 2013 Golden Globes — her first outing since having son Cyrus in December.

Matin Maulawizada, Global Artistry Director for Laura Mercier, created the new mom's makeup look for the night — and it had to be fab to complement her Versace gown.

Eyes

Danes' dramatic dress required equally as dramatic eye makeup, according to Maulawizada.

"I decided to go with a smoky eye and not a red lip since the dress was so red," he said.

He used Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Liner in Black on Danes’ top lids and under her eyes "to create depth and shape."

Next, he applied Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eye Liner in Black Ebony with Laura Mercier Flat Eye Liner Brush to "deepen the lash line." He then used Laura Mercier Kohl Eye Pencil in Black Gold on the inner rim of the eye to "intensify the depth and to create a contrast with Claire’s blue eyes."

He topped off the look with multiple coats of Laura Mercier Faux Lash Mascara to Claire’s long upper lashes.

Laura Mercier Creme Smooth lip color Claire Danes
TIP: Claire Danes went with a neutral lip at the 2013 Golden Globes using Laura Mercier Creme Smooth in Angelic.

Lena Dunham rocks Zac Posen at the Golden Globes >>

Lips

Maulawizada went neutral on the lips to create a contour reminiscent of "an early ‘90s supermodel pout."

He first defined the lips using Laura Mercier Lip Pencil in Hazelnut , then he shaded and contoured with Laura Mercier Lip Pencil in Praline . Finally, he added Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Angelic to make the color a "bit more beige and quiet."

Face

Maulawizada wanted Danes to have "glowy, warm skin." To do that, he applied Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Crème Compact SPF 20 in Almond to warm up her skin tone and then added Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage #3 to "cover up little imperfections and darkness under the eyes, which she really doesn’t have."

On her cheeks, Maulawizada applied Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Colour in Blaze and added Laura Mercier Bonne Mine Palette to "highlight, bronze and make her even more glowy."

Finally, he used a combination of Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder in Translucent and Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder to set her look. He also added Laura Mercier Mineral Illuminating Powder in Candlelight over Laura Mercier Repair Eye Serum on Claire’s shoulders and arms.

  • The perfect fix for bad hair days: Winter wind can wreak havoc on your strands — we all know that. The best way to deal on days when you just feel like tossing your hair up in a ratty bun? Throw on an adorable beret, like this one from Modcloth . C'est chic, non?

Skin care/ makeup

Winter is definitely one of those seasons where you need as many beauty goodies as you can find to brighten up your outlook. Make sure to stock up on some skin savers and makeup miracle workers like these!

Skin

  • Skin-tervention: Your skin needs extra love during the cold, dry months, so treat it to something totally luxe: Tata Harper's all-natural Rejuvenating Serum . The anti-aging collagen treatment has quickly become a must-have in my beauty closet and smells totally refreshing. Splurge? Yes. Worth it? Totally.
  • Exfoliate the flakes away: Your hands aren't the only skin that's vulnerable to the whipping winter winds, ladies. Protect your face too with a powerful yet gentle exfoliant. One I'm loving? Joanna Vargas' Exfoliating Mask .
  • Lip love: Lip balm is an absolute must during the flaky skin months, but you don't want to sacrifice color for quality. That's why I'm crushing on bareMinerals' new Loud & Clear Lip Sheer . The luxe sheer gel coats lips with equal parts moisture and color. My fave shade? Amped pink!
  • Look alive: One of the best ways to look alive when you're feeling cold and cranky? CoverGirl's new Clump Crusher Mascara . Believe me when I tell you this is a keeper, ladies. If you want lift, minimal mascara gunk and a light feel to your lashes, then this is the mascara for you!
  • Brighten up: Just because your skin isn't really goddess-esque during the winter doesn't mean you can't fake it! Gals, this is where a great illuminator, like Sonia Kashuk's Perfecting Translucent Illuminator , comes in.

Body care

Just because it's cold outside and you're not rocking short shorts anymore doesn't mean you should abandon your body skin care routine. In fact, your skin needs you the most now. Show it the love it deserves with these goodies!

Body care

  • Bubble your troubles away: Feeling kinda down due to the dropping temps? You're not alone! One of our fave ways to ditch the stress of life is with a nice bubble bath! Breathe in relaxation — and yummy cinnamon scents! — with philosophy's Cinnamon Buns Shampoo, Shower Gel & Bubble Bath and you'll be saying "Om" before you know it.
  • Shave away the winter yuck: I'm sure your man doesn't see not shaving 'til spring in the same positive light as you do, so I'm going to give you a gem of a product to get summer-worthy skin in the dead of winter: Gillette Venus & Olay Razor gives the perfect close shave without all the nicks and you don't even need shaving cream to use it!
  • Moisture matters: A good body moisturizer is never more important than during the cold winter months, but a gal doesn't always want to break the bank to keep her skin smooth and supple. That's why Jergens Daily Moisture Dry Skin Moisturizer is your new best friend! For $7 you can look forward to all-day hydration and a smooth feel. Sounds worth it to me!

Nail polish

Bored with the typical dark nail shades that winter has to offer? Brighten up your life with these beauties!

Nails

  • Nailing it: Think CoverGirl only has fab makeup? Think again! The hip brand recently released the new Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss, and I'm totally crushing on the vibrant shades. Who says your nails have to be blah like the winter weather anyway?
  • Glitter up your life: She might not have done right by the film version of Glitter, but Mariah Carey sure does know how to rock a fab nail polish, so it's no surprise that the singing sensation's new OPI collection is a winner. My fave hue? Can't Let Go, one of the brand's new Liquid Sand shades.
  • Girls just wanna have fun: Obsessed with HBO's hit series Girls? Yep, so is the rest of America! Lucky for you, Deborah Lippmann has partnered with the network to release a limited-edition set of four nail lacquers inspired by each of the girls. My fave shade? Shoshanna, a vivid violet inspired by Jessa. You can pre-order the set now!

Bonus tip

Any smart gal knows that beauty products can only go so far to keep you looking your best this winter. While you're at the drug store, make sure to stock up on the must-have of the season: cold and cough medicine! While you're at it, educate yourself. Robitussin's new COUGHCAST, a new interactive tool, allows people to track cough activity in their local area so they can be prepared to effectively treat their symptoms.

DIY 2-ingredient moisturizing shaving gel

Don’t you hate it when you’re in the shower, ready to shave and get on with your day, and you find you’re out of shaving cream? We’ve got an easy, two-ingredient DIY solution, perfect any time!

DIY Moisturizing Shaving Gel

Shaving is one of those things most of us face. And when we do, we definitely want to use something that not only makes the process go smoothly, so to speak, but that is also kind to our skin after the fact.

You can easily make your own shaving gel at home with just two ingredients! Olive oil is great in the kitchen, but it’s also wonderful as a moisturizer on your skin, too. You’ve likely used aloe vera gel on your skin after unintentionally getting a bit too much sun or on a minor skin irritation. Vitamins C and E in aloe vera are also great moisturizers for the skin. Combined, olive oil and pure aloe vera gel will set you on your way to smooth skin!

DIY moisturizing shaving gel

Supplies:

  • Olive oil
  • Pure aloe vera gel
  • Optional: essential oil for fragrance

DIY Moisturizing Shaving Gel

Instructions:

1

Step 1

Combine one part olive oil with three parts pure aloe vera gel . Mix well and add several drops of your favorite essential oil for fragrance if you’d like. Mix well and store in a container.

Consider storing the shaving gel in an unbreakable container, especially if you’ll keep it in your shower. A squeeze container might be a good option, so you can simply squeeze the gel out of the bottle into your hand or on your legs. If you’re not using a squeeze container, keep a plastic spoon with the shave gel to scoop it out of the container if it has a wide opening.

2

Step 2

Use in the shower or bath, and make sure your skin is damp or wet first. Stir to combine the ingredients, as they may separate slightly, or shake to mix in your unbreakable container. Apply a thin layer of the gel to the area to be shaved, and shave as normal.

Kate Hudson at the 203 Golden Globe awards

Kate, Amy & Kerry

Queen of rom coms Kate Hudson may not have gone home with a Golden Globe last night, but her black Alexander McQueen dress with gold embellishments had me at hello. Meanwhile, Amy Adams stole my heart in her ballerina pink mermaid Marchesa gown.

When asked about her choice to wear black instead of color, Kate Hudson told E!'s Ryan Seacrest, "It was a last-minute choice because the other dress weighed 500 pounds." So, comfort won her over. We can clap for that, right ladies?

I don't know what the first choice dress looked like, but her outfit change did not fail her. She paid great tribute to Alexander McQueen by wearing this fitted black gown for the 2013 Golden Globes event. It had such a sophistication to it while, in true Kate Hudson fashion, didn't dare lack a little sex appeal.

The front keyhole cutout showed just enough skin to be Golden Globes-appropriate and still make all her exes drool . The gold details were so elegant and not out of place among the other glittery gowns shown off by celebrities like Hayden Panettiere, Sofia Vergara and Anne Hathaway.

Amy Adam at the 203 Golden Globes

Now, let's talk about Amy Adams.

She was one of the first to arrive, and she made an impression I couldn't forget, even after seeing every other beautiful gown walk the carpet. The lightness of it made her look like a princess and the subtle pink color was perfect for her pale skin tone.

Paired with her retro waves hanging perfectly from her updo hairstyle, the whole look brought a very vintage vibe to the red carpet.

Kerry Washington at the 2013 Golden Globes

Last, but definitely not least, Kerry Washington.

She had a breakout year with her supporting role in Django Unchained, and she has been making stellar fashion choices while promoting the film. It's been impossible not to notice her!

Last night, as Django Unchained took home two Golden Globes, Washington looked nothing short of fabulous wearing a Miu Miu dress that was a little sheer, a little sparkly and a lot of amazing.

Inspiration

"When I saw Jennifer's Dior Couture gown, I immediately knew I wanted to pull her hair up to accentuate the amazing silhouette of the dress.

The products:Dove Hair Care and Oribe

Get the look:

  1. I started by applying a large dollop of the Dove Style+Care Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse to her damp hair and dried with a diffuser attachment to encourage her natural curls.
  2. Next, I took random sections of hair and sprayed Dove Style+Care Strength & Shine Flexible Hold Hairspray before wrapping the hair around a 1/2-inch curling iron to enhance the curls, and then sprayed Oribe Dry Texturizing spray all over and scrunched with my hands.
  3. Then, I took 3- to 4-inch sections of hair around the hairline and loosely braided them before pulling all the hair back into a low chignon and secured with bobby pins.
  4. As always, I finished with the Dove Style+Care Strength & Shine Extra Hold Hairspray to keep the hair in place all night.

Kate Hudson was one of the most talked about celebs to hit the red carpet Sunday night at the 2013 Golden Globes. We tracked down her hairstylist, David Babaii, to get the inside scoop on her drool-worthy strands.

Kate Hudson

Celebrity stylist David Babaii had one idea for Kate Hudson's Golden Globes hair.

"Soft, voluptuous, healthy hair [that] never looked more glamorous," he told SheKnows Sunday night. The idea was to create a sexy — yet simple — style that wouldn't take away from her dramatic Alexander McQueen dress.

Babaii used IT&LY Hairfashion's Purity Design line to create the whole look, starting with IT&LY's Pure Water Drops Serum to prep the hair for styling.

Next, he applied IT&LY's Pure Style Mousse Strong with a medium round brush to the roots area for added volume. Then he switched to a large round brush to smooth and create soft, rounded edges. After drying, Babaii made a natural side part with IT&LY's Pure Volumizing Eco for added lift and definition.

For Hudson's bangs, Babaii wrapped her hair around a medium round brush and sprayed a small amount of Pure Volumizing Eco again. He then used a blow-dryer to add a bit of heat, followed by a blast of cool air to set. Finally, he used his fingers to comb through and add a bit of natural tousle.

To finish, he added IT&LY Pure Definition Hair Spray for hold.

Beauty trends from the 70th annual Golden Globes

$

Beauty trends showed strong last night at the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards. Here are some of the popular looks that dominated the red carpet!
1

1940s movie starlet hair

Jennifer Lopez at the 2013 Golden Globes

Stars channeled their inner Veronica Lake and Rita Hayworth with side-swept vintage waves. In addition to host Tina Fey, this wavy style was seen on Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Alba, Megan Fox, Heidi Klum and Isla Fisher, to name a few. Golden Globe winner Connie Britton went a step further with double pinned back pin-curls — also known as "victory curls," a popular style during World War II. Since she won last night, she chose her style wisely! The other side of this vintage trend was seen in low side buns and twisted/textured updos, like Jennifer Lawrence's braided low chignon.

Try retro-glam waves at home by parting hair to the side and curling 1-inch sections with a medium curling iron. Pin each curl to your scalp and spray with a flexible-hold hairspray like Living Proof Hold Flexible Hold Hairspray . Release the curls and use a comb to form "S" waves around your head. Finish with a second coat of hairspray.

2

Nude, naked skin

Adele at the 2013 Golden Globes

The stars literally showed off their skin on the red carpet. Instead of overly illuminated faces, we saw clean, perfect, yet natural-looking skin. Blush was in rosy, tawny or nude/beige tones, mimicking a natural flush. Except with a few bright pops of color we saw pale pink, nude or Champagne tones on lips and with a good balance of high-shine or matte colors. Stars like Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, Connie Britton and Adele all showed off these feminine, natural lips.

Get flawless skin at home with a high-definition foundation like Urban Decay Naked Skin Liquid Makeup . Follow with a nude-toned blush like L'Oreal Paris Visible Lift Color Lift Blush in Nude Life and pink/nude lip gloss such as Sephora Collection Ultra-Shine Gloss in Shiny Perfect Nude .

3

Metallic, smoky eyes

Julianne Houg at the 2013 Golden Globes

Most of the stars wore a smoky eye at the 70th annual Golden Globes. The twist? Instead of traditional black, the stars used metallic tones. Some notable looks: The bronze palette on Julianne Hough , charcoal-metallic tones on Morena Baccarin and silver on Hayden Panettiere.

Rock the look at home with a smoky eye palette such as Too Faced Smokey Eye Shadow Collection .

4

1960s bombshell hair

Claire Danes at the 2013 Golden Globes

We saw glimpses of Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot on the red carpet. Sarah Hyland and Maria Menounos invoked memories of Sophia Loren with their brunette, parted in the middle, high-volume, va-va voom hair while Katharine McPhee oozed Italian-screen goddess with her high messy bun, smoky eyes and nude lips. A high-volume, high-styled ponytail with full, curled bangs gave Zooey Deschanel a '60s Bardot look .

New mom Claire Danes looked St. Tropez-gorgeous with ultra-blonde, bedroom sexy hair, smoky eyes and nude lips. Finally, bombshells don't have to be female... Julianne Hough unleashed her inner Elvis with a fabulous pompadour. With slicked sides and a high pouf, her bob was transformed into a style worthy of rock legends.

To get easy bombshell hair at home, add a dollop of volumizing mousse to your hair. One to try is Herbal Essences Body Envy Volumizing Mousse . Next, blow dry with a round brush. When you are done, flip your head upside down to create volume and texture. For added volume, tease 1-inch sections of hair toward the back of the crown of your head.

5

Sleek and natural

Actresses Sienna Miller and Olivia Munn stunned on the red carpet with slicked back buns and barely-there makeup. George Clooney's girlfriend, Stacy Keibler, rocked the trend with long, sleek hair.

Get this easy look at home by slicking a shine serum, such as L'Oreal Professionel Mythic Oil into your hair. Create a deep side part and slick hair back into a bun. Fasten securely into a low knot and you are good to go!

6

Fabulous nails

Zooey Deschanel at the 2013 Golden Globes

Nail art has made its way onto the red carpet and is here to stay! Actress Zooey Deschanel had retro movie camera and film images painted onto each of her nails, while Adele had glitter to match the sparkle of her look.

Embellish your nails at home with easy to use nail polish strips, such as Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips in Bling It On or Glitz Blitz .
