Friday's Fashion Fails: Cee Lo Green and Kim Kardashian

Oops... even celebrities get it wrong sometimes! We're telling you why Cee Lo Green and Kim Kardashian's fashions fell short in our weekly feature. Learn from the stars' sartorial slip ups!

Cee Lo Green

Cee Lo Green

Cee Lo Green is a judge on The Voice, but today, we're turning the tables and judging him on his fire engine-esque fashion faux pas. Check out this look-at-me leather ensemble that he chose to host a New Year's celebration at Chateau nightclub in Las Vegas. Leather is definitely very trendy right now, but we're not sure about this head to toe look he's rocking.

First of all, red leather is very bold . The jacket or pants would be statement pieces enough on their own but pairing them together is too much. For 2013, Cee Lo must be cutting back on his security costs. Instead of hiring bodyguards for the night, the singer just decided to wear a completely spiked leather jacket to ensure no one got too close to him. His pant pockets even have spikes too! This is overkill, literally.

Finally, we're not feeling the baggy, untucked shirt that's hanging out. It's far too casual for New Year's Eve.

The final verdict? We're not opposed to red leather or spike accents, but this outfit is truly painful.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian

Just because Kim Kardashian has Kanye West's baby on board doesn't mean she's going to break out the maternity wear! The expectant E! reality star hit Vegas to host a New Year's Eve bash at 1OAK in this Julien MacDonald dress, leaving very little to the imagination.

Don't get us wrong... we certainly don't expect Kim K to start dressing frumpy, but this see-through netted gown is a bit tacky. We can barely see her bump, but we can see almost everything else! It looks like she's nearly naked underneath and now that she's going to be a mom, a little modesty could be good.

We're also not feeling the super long sleeves, which are hanging down over her hands and obscuring her wrists and fingers.

The final verdict? We all know that you'll be one hot mom, Kim, so don't feel like you have to prove you've still got your sexy side. Your sister Kourtney had amazingly chic maternity style... may we suggest borrowing some of her outfits?

Celeb Hairstyle of the Week: Bella Thorne

We have a total crush on Bella Thorne's chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!

Bella Thorne's updo

I don't know what it is, but I've been really obsessed with updos lately! This week, I'm crushing on this oh-so-chic one Bella Thorne sported recently at the 2nd Annual American Giving Awards in California. The Disney star, although young, never seems to disappoint with her glossy and gorgeous locks.

As a gal with bangs, I've always been jealous of the way Bella's just hang so well. Her fringe perfectly frames her face, but that's not the only reason this updo works. No, folks, the beautiful woven detail in the back coupled with what appear to be pink extensions turns this look from polished to fun. This is a super cheap way to get a temporary hair makeover without the commitment of full-on dye. Cute, right?

Tell us

We're loving Bella's cute hairstyle! How about you? Sound off in the comments! And check out other celebrity hairstyles!

Friday's Fashion Obsessions: Anne Hathaway and Kirsten Dunst

Anne Hathaway and Kirsten Dunst's beautiful celebrity styles made us do a double take this week! We're telling you why in this week's installment of Friday’s Fashion Obsessions.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway

How adorable does Anne Hathaway look? Seriously, she looks like Old Hollywood glamour, and appropriately so since she's attending Hugh Jackman's Hollywood Star event here.

The Les Miserables star has had some pretty major fashion moments since chopping off her locks in the name of her craft, and I love that she's not afraid to break fashion rules. All black is typically a bit morbid, but it just seems to work here. Why? Well, the cool shades and the matchy matchy Peter Pan collar/belt combo help add a little sparkle to the otherwise bland look.

The final verdict? Monochromatic can be a bit boring or it can be brilliant, and with the help of some shiny accessories, Anne successfully hit the brilliant mark here!

Kirsten Dunst

Kirsten Dunst

Is it a dress or a coat? Yep, I know you're asking yourself that right about now. And if it's a coat, why in the world would Kirsten Dunst show up to a movie premiere in NYC wearing nothing but a coat? Well loves, rest assured, this Dior stunner is a coat dress.

Now normally I'm not a huge fan of coat dresses. After all, if you're wearing a coat, it's typically cold out so it makes sense to, I don't know, wear some clothes under it. In this case I think I'm going to give Kirsten a pass for two reasons. The first? It's Dior. Enough said. The second? It's plain adorable and it's fun.

The final verdict? I think this coat dress would look equally if not more stunning as a regular 'ole coat, but I'll let it go this time. I would, however, recommend wearing it with some fuller coverage tights — fishnets, really Kristen? — and some wintery shoes. Cuz let's be honest, it's cold in NYC.

How fashion can shed the pounds

The fashion caste system that separated people into "those who can" and "those who can't" created by snobby designers and power hungry fashion editors is crumbling. A fashion utopia is emerging where fashionistas can look fabulous regardless of size. Take that, Kate Moss!
Plus size woman

Not just for skinny chicks

The fashion caste system that separated people into "those who can" and "those who can't" created by snobby designers and power hungry fashion editors is crumbling. A fashion utopia is emerging where fashionistas can look fabulous regardless of size. Take that, Kate Moss!

The rules

Now, there are few rules you need to follow in order to stay in fashion. In this diet-obsessed, waif-model culture, designers still gear their creations toward a size two, and their version of plus size fashion is to just make a bigger size two. Commit these size rules to heart and watch your style quotient rise.

1

Dress monochromatically

Dressing in one color de-emphasizes your problem areas by creating one long silhouette. Wearing all black is still the simplest way to look pounds thinner.

2

Break out the heels

Heels elongate your legs, making you look slimmer in the process. Stores like Zappos have a huge selection of pumps and heels. Try something classic like a black stiletto, or opt for a sexy red patent pump!

3

Low-rise is not an option

Very few people, regardless of size, can wear low-rise pants. Just because it is in style, doesn't mean it will work for you.

4

Avoid cropped jackets

Cropped jackets draw attention to your waist and butt. Purchase well-structured jackets that hit you right below your bottom. This season, military is very hot, so pick up a cute army green jacket, or something in velvet to layer over your favorite LBD for a night out.

5

Please don't abuse the Lycra

Lycra is a privilege, not a fashion right.

6

Purchase boot cut pants

One of the season's biggest trends is the pencil leg pant, which emphasize big butts. Stick with pants that have a slight flare at the bottom, like these from Old Navy, to create a more balanced look.

7

Find a great tailor

Don't throw out those great fitting pants because they are too long. A great tailor will be able to hem the pants to your desired length for less than $20.

The stores

So where can you buy these clothes? Below are the best stores to purchase plus-size fashions that will enhance your style and be gentle on your pocket books.

  • Karenkane.com: This hot site carries the prettiest dresses for sizes up to a 3X!
  • Lanebryant.com: has the best array of on-trend jackets, jeans and more!
  • LaRedoute.com: is a Parisian online retailer that has some of the best plus-size fashions on the web. They are hip, trendy and extremely affordable.
  • Overstock.com: is the best online outlet and a great place to pick up cheap designer items. The plus-size section tends to be a little boring for our taste, but sometimes you can find deals like a Dana Buchman top for up to 80 percent off retail.
  • Target.com: Stop by for toilet paper and leave with an outfit. Too bad the Isaac Mizrahi line only goes up to a size 16.

Try stopping by your local outlet mall. Off 5th, the Saks Fifth Ave Outlet, has an amazing selection of designer plus size fashions from Donna Karan, Oscar de la Renta and Anne Klein. Also, check out stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's and Macy's — all of whom have very hip plus size departments.

Tip

Remember that you can be a fashionista regardless of your size. Don't let pop culture's ridiculous fashion caste system dictate what you can and can't wear. Arm yourself with a heaping dose of self-confidence, a purse full of common sense and the rules above, and head to your favorite store and shop!

a cute front braid

This half-French braid is also known as a lace braid. This hairstyle is perfect if you’re growing out your bangs or just want a pretty style that frames your face.

Get the look!

1

Lace braid hairstyle tutorial

Start by making a deep side part on the right-hand side and brush your hair to remove any knots.

2

Lace braid hairstyle tutorial

Take a small section at the start of the part and split it into three.
Start your braid here and cross the right section over the middle, then the left over the right.

3

Lace braid hairstyle tutorial

As with a French braid, start to add in small sections of hair,
but only from the right side. Don’t add in any hair from your hairline.

4

Lace braid hairstyle tutorial

Angle the braid right onto your face and in front of your hairline. You want the braid
to sit grazing along the edge of your eyebrow, coming down the left side of your face.

5

Lace braid hairstyle tutorial

Keep adding in very small sections as you French braid
until you reach around your cheekbone or jaw line.

6

Lace braid hairstyle tutorial

Continue braiding in a regular braid and secure the end with a small clear elastic.

7

This hairstyle looks great in straight or curly hair. Here I’ve curled my hair with a large curling iron

5 Ways to pamper your pregnant self

If you are in the last weeks of pregnancy, you might be rushing around trying to get everything ready, without taking too much time out for yourself. The truth is that now is the time to prioritize pampering yourself before the baby arrives. Here are some suggestions to indulge yourself .

pregant woman meditating

nail polishSchedule beauty treatments from head to toe

Take a day off of work or clear your schedule on a Saturday and make it a day of beauty. First, start at the spa for a glow-inducing facial, followed by a manicure and pedicure. Your last stop should be a blowout at a salon to get supermodel-worthy hair.

All day shopping anyone?

Enjoy your "free time" and head to the mall with your friends for a day of window shopping. See what styles are in for shoes, handbags, jewelry, clothes and anything that is not baby-related! Stop by the makeup department and try new shades of gloss and even get your makeup done at one of the counters. If you end up hungry, treat yourself to a girls' lunch and make it a gab fest! The point is to take your time, not rush, and truly enjoy the experience.

Gossip magazine binge

Go to a local magazine stand and buy all of the celebrity gossip and beauty/fashion magazines you can find. Then, head to the couch or your bed with a cup of tea and indulge in a day of guilty pleasures!

Say OM

Find a prenatal yoga class you love for some stretching and relaxing. Your mind, body will love it. You can also take leisurely strolls and practice some deep breathing to calm your mind and enjoy the moment.

wedge heelsPretty clothes and lingerie

Just because you are pregnant doesn't mean you can't wear fabulous dresses or sexy lingerie! Start by finding pretty, feminine maternity bras and panties . Top that with chic, fashion-forward outfits — have at least two choices in your maternity wardrobe. Try a glitzy top with black pants or a runway-inspired maternity dress. Put on the highest heels you feel comfortable in without the risk of falling, or if you wear flats, make sure they have some pizzazz to them, like rhinestone embellishments or leopard!

Bio-Oil: Kim Kardashian's secret pregnancy weapon

We all know Kim Kardashian is pregnant. What do we really want to know? How she'll stay so gorgeous during these next few months.

Kim Kardashian

We've only known about Kim Kardashian's pregnancy for about a week, but that hasn't stopped us from endlessly wondering about what the reality star will use to keep her skin looking fab — and stretch mark free.

Well, it looks like we already know: Bio-Oil.

"It prevents wrinkles around my eyes and stretch marks over my body," she wrote a couple of years ago in her OK! magazine column.

It sounds like she's more concerned about keeping her famous curves in check. She revealed on her blog that she's working out with controversial trainer — and Gwyneth Paltrow BFF — Tracy Anderson.

"Tracy Anderson is keeping me in shape! She is helping me make the adjustments necessary to keep me feeling happy, healthy and most importantly create a workout plan that is safe for the baby," she wrote last week. "It’s really important for me to have a fitness routine that works for my body and my schedule and I’m really happy with the workout plan Tracy is working with me on."

The most important thing for Kardashian is staying healthy, she said.

"People always say it's easy and fun. It's definitely an adjustment learning about your body and stuff like that," Kardashian told US Weekly."I've been feeling really good so that's good."

We're most looking forward to Kardashian's inevitable maternity line. Heidi Klum and Jessica Simpson did it — and we don't expect anything less from the Queen of Hawking Products.

Farrah Abraham waxes 3-year-old daughter's "unibrow"

Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham decided to wax her 3-year-old daughter's "unibrow." Yes, seriously.

Farrah Abraham

We're all for a good eyebrow wax — as long as it's your choice.

Sadly, Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham doesn't get that whole "choice" part. The former reality star opted to wax her 3-year-old daughter's eyebrows.

"So here I am faced with a standout historical moment in motherhood when I can confirm to myself that my little, adorable, most cuddle-able cutie, baby girl has a Unibrow ::

So I told sophia of the little issue on her brow, and I showed her how I waxed mine off, so I tryed to wax her, the second a dab hit the Uni, she touch it with the towel she had in her hand,

UHHH so now, wax was in the towel, and I yanked it back ASAP, but fuzz was not stuck to the wax stuck to her Uni, OMG moment, So now sophia was freaking out, so I had to act like it was a cool science project to get the wax off.

PLOT TO END THIS: Sophia feel a sleep, I got my tweezers and Pluck-pluck-pluck......soph was now saying ouch or anything and still was asleep, I got most of it off and then finally she woke up..I went to sleep .

The next morning I showed her and told her how well she did and she didn't even know, She was more intrigued now to be ok with upkeeping her non-unibrow. I could tell she was proud.

We don't even know what to say about this. It's just... wrong on so many levels.

Pastels in winter: It’s totally a "do"

Darker hues have their place during the colder months, but adding a splash of color is OK too and adds a refreshing twist to any winter outfit. If you’re not sure how to incorporate softer hues into your look, we’re sharing some of our current go-to pastel pieces.

lightweight lilac-hued scarf

Animal print scarf

Add a splash of a pretty pastel color to any winter look by throwing this animal print border scarf on with a neutral sweater . The lightweight lilac-hued scarf would look great paired with gray, black or even navy and would work with both casual outfits or something more polished .

Jeffrey Campbell cap toe heels

Cap toe heels

Whether you’re wearing a classic LBD or a pair of skinny tailored trousers, adding this glam pair of Jeffrey Campbell cap toe heels in pastel green with a silver toe will add just the right amount of flair to your look . They come in a variety of pastel hues, but we’re partial to the minty green.

delicate Swarovski crystal bracelet

Crystal bracelet

You can never go wrong by adding a little sparkle to your look which is why we’re currently coveting this delicate Swarovski crystal bracelet featuring pastel-colored stones . The vintage-inspired design and ribbon closure give it a romantic appeal we love.

chic collarless silk stretch blouse

Silk blouse

Skip over the white or cream-colored button-up in favor of this chic collarless silk stretch blouse in a soft shade of lavender with pretty pleating at the neck . Not only is it ultra-comfortable due to the addition of stretch, but the blouse is still elegant enough to wear to the office. Pair with a sleek printed pencil skirt and nude platform pumps.

purple pastel skinnies

Skinny jeans

We’ve had a long-standing crush on colored denim and these purple pastel skinnies are no exception . Even during the colder months, these lighter-hued jeans would look great paired with a slouchy gray sweater and either knee-high or ankle boots.

structured pink pastel purse

Purse

Why tote a dark handbag when you’re wearing a darker-hued outfit or coat? We prefer to brighten things up with a lighter accessory like this structured pink pastel purse . Two organizer pockets and a center divider help keep things organized no matter how much stuff we’re carting around.

Sally Hansen Salon Gel Polish Starter Kit (Review)

Sally Hansen Salon Gel Polish Starter Kit

Innovations are always welcome, especially in the beauty department, which produces several Mensa-worthy ideas yearly. The spotlight right now is on nail lacquers, which have upped the ante in a pretty big way. See if Sally Hansen's latest Gel Manicure Starter Kit lives up to the claims.

An at-home gel manicure that works

The Sally Hansen Salon Insta Gel Polish and Strips are a game changing introduction by the brand in its effort to give you the opportunity to create gel nails at home.

If you're a fan of gel nail polish, then these new kids on the nail lacquer block will have you squealing. The at-home alternative to getting a gel manicure has finally hit the shelves. The shine is high and real, and the starter kit is the best $70 you'll ever spend for long-lasting nails. There are two versions: the strips and polish. The starter kit aims to replicate the state of the art salon gel manicure, complete with LED lights and curing time. The kit also comes with everything you need, including base coat, nail polish, top coat and an acetone nail polish remover. The nail polish version includes 30 seconds of curing time in between base and top coats.

The Insta Gel strips use UV-cured real nail polish appliques and the process is a two-step manicure, unlike the nail polish which involves several steps. The Insta Gel strips and nail polish come in eight designs and 16 solid colors and are truly a good gift for those who love their manicures and longevity.

Sally Hansen Salon Insta Gel Polish and Strips swatch

Once you buy one starter kit , then you only have to get the refill polishes and remover as you need to. The best part? You can find them at your local drug stores, food stores and mass retailers nationally. The starter kit contains a base coat, nail polish, top coat, the LED light, acetone polish remover, a nail file and orange stick and alcohol cleaning pads: pretty much everything you need to get the perfect mani at home.

The only caveat with the nail polish gel is that you must cure your nails after each step or else the gel polish will run over. The LED light will automatically shut off once the time is up, but I found this to be the only cumbersome step in the entire process. But needless to say, my manicure stayed beautifully glossy well past two weeks, and there is nothing like this on the market that gives you this kind of at-home capability for this price.

Where to buy?

Nail HQ Kiosk at CVS

Your local drugstore has grown up quite a bit, in the nail department at any rate. CVS Beauty has a brand new Nail HQ Kiosk, which carries both the items detailed above and more. The special in-store kiosk for nail accessories and nail lacquers is an island in the store with colorful bottles and smart tools, including nail polish removers specifically designed for the nail junkie — which means hunting down that nail polish shade and the orange stick and nail file doesn't have to be a needle in a haystack issue anymore.

In addition to Sally Hansen, COVERGIRL and other popular name brands, CVS will debut a 32-piece nail lacquer collection in the Nuance by Salma Hayek Line. Follow the CVS Beauty Club's Facebook page and Twitter account for more nail intel and inspiration!

Fashion trends: Just because celebs do it, doesn't make it right

Remember how we had Britney Spears and her then-plastic stomach to thank for all those midriff-baring tops? Remember how every female in America, regardless of the size of her gut, thought it was OK to wear one? Remember how Paris Hilton did the same thing with low-riding jeans until half of America started walking around with its bum hanging out? We must continually remind ourselves — just because a celebrity does it, doesn’t make it right…
Lindsay Lohan wearing colored rimmed sunglasses

That's never ok

Remember how we had Britney Spears and her then-plastic stomach to thank for all those midriff-baring tops? Remember how every female in America, regardless of the size of her gut, thought it was OK to wear one? Remember how Paris Hilton did the same thing with low-riding jeans until half of America started walking around with its bum hanging out?

We must continually remind ourselves — just because a celebrity does it, doesn’t make it right…

Color-rimmed glasses

Please mark the box with an X if you are sick and tired of celebrities making ridiculous sunglasses the norm. First we had Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie to thank for making those wasp-eye, over-sized sunglasses all the rage. We looked like a nation of demented bugs when that was popular. Then Top Gun had to re-introduce the ever-annoying aviator glasses which normal people and cops think they look cool in . We have Angelina Jolie to thank for perpetrating this myth.

Sunglasses designers have clearly run out of ideas because now celebrities are wearing plastic, color-rimmed sunglasses. These things make all of us look like 6-year-old girls, which is especially not good for the men who insist on wearing them.

Jessica Alba wearing trapper hat

Hats with fur flaps

This trend, demonstrated here by Jessica Alba, is likely the biggest fashion sin committed against good taste in some time. Here is when this look is appropriate — if you are a backwoods hillbilly or if you are traveling by dog sled through Antarctica. Unless you want to look like Cousin Eddie from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and have people point and jeer behind your back, do not succumb to this goofy trend.

We can only imagine that the makers of this hat paid Jessica Alba great sums of money to parade around in public wearing that monstrosity that is perched atop her otherwise beautiful head.

Jennifer Lopez wearing skin suit

Skin suits

These seem to be all the rage among women in their 40s. We let it slip years ago when Britney Spears did it. But now that Jennifer Lopez and Shania Twain have made wearing skin suits common practice, we are ringing the fashion alarm. Let me assure you, in a nation where the average woman is a size 14, we do not need this trend becoming mainstream. Can you imagine a day where your sweet but portly neighbor thinks it’s a good idea to walk to the corner mailbox in a skin suit? Eye sores aside, these don’t look like they would be very comfortable. A day at the office in one of these get-ups could be problematic — you’d be digging this thing out of your lady parts all day. That’s not a good look for anyone.

Rihanna wearing nothing

Nothing

In a perfect world, we’d stage a fashion intervention for Rihanna, as she is an offender of all awesomely-bad fashion trends. In fact, she sets a lot of them — including the thrice weekly Instagram photo taken of herself topless. Can someone take her phone away already? Chris Brown, are you listening? How many times does a person need to be told that they look good naked? Put some freakin’ clothes on and step away from the camera! The last thing the self-esteem of this country’s women needs is throngs of young women tweeting pictures of their vainglorious, topless self. Yes, Rihanna. You have breasts. Congratulations. Moving on…

Skinny jeans on One Direction

Skinny jeans on boys

When my son and I were watching the American Music Awards and One Direction hopped on stage all wearing skinny jeans, my son quipped, “Skinny jeans look really masculine on a man. Said no one, ever.” This look is a problem for two very specific reasons. One, by virtue of their name and style, one should, ideally, be skinny to wear them. That reality excludes a healthy percentage of the population. Secondly, somehow men got the notion that it was OK for them to wear these jeans. Can you say “misinformed?” Skinny jeans are fine if you are a girl between the ages of 13 and 15. Everyone else please take one step back.

Say no
to these makeup mistakes

From over-plucked brows to ultra-pale powder, makeup mishaps happen to the best of us. But when they do, it’s hard not to panic, especially when you have somewhere to be . We’re here to say you can stop stressing! We have some great advice for how to avoid some of the biggest beauty mishaps we can think of.

We asked celebrity makeup artist Tara Loren for her best fixes for common beauty blunders.

foundationCakey foundation

Foundation can be a girl's best friend or worst enemy, depending on how you apply it. Use too much and you’ll end up looking cakey. Rather than go overboard, Loren recommends keeping your foundation light, fresh and clean. “Remember it’s for evening out redness and unevenness in the skin, hiding a couple of blemishes and creating a flawless canvas. It’s not for creating a mask of an entirely new face,” she explains.

Makeup trick: Apply with a light hand and blend, blend, blend. One of Loren’s favorite foundation applicators is the Beauty Blender. “This magical little egg-shaped sponge is used dampened and helps your product go further than a traditional latex sponge, plus it has no hard edges, ensuring a smooth, flawless finish.”

tweezerOver-plucked brows

Despite the vast number of tools, products and professionals aimed at keeping brows expertly shaped, over-plucked arches are still one of the most common mistakes around. Loren suggests putting your brows in the hands of a trusted professional, but she also knows that’s not always an option for everyone. So if you’re opting to shape your brows at home, start slow and really look at what needs to be done before you pick up the tweezers. “Stand back a little from the mirror and really assess the work that needs to be done. When we get too close to ourselves in the mirror, we tend to obsess over every single hair we see which can quickly lead to over plucking,” she explains. If you’ve already overdone it, Loren suggests adding a little fullness back to your brows. “Try not to draw a hard line for a brow, but [rather] feather the product through the gaps and thin areas, recreating that perfect arched brow.”

acne spot creamPopped pimples

This one is simple: Just don’t do it, as tempting as it might be. You’ll likely make the problem worse. “When you attempt to squeeze the life out of those pesky blemishes, you are also creating a potential chance to increase the problem,” says Loren. “That’s because part of the blemish lives below the skin's surface. When we attempt to ‘pop,’ we often break that blemish in half and only part comes out to the surface. The rest underneath the skin spreads and creates additional blemishes,” she explains. “Instead, try a spot treatment that contains salicylic acid at night to fight the problem areas.”

mascaraClumpy mascara

Even though most women will tell you that mascara is the one beauty product they could never live without, it can still be applied in an unflattering manner. Clumps don’t look good on anyone. “When layering multiple coats of mascara, I prefer not to wait until the previous coat is dry,” says Loren. “This leaves too much of a chance that the lashes will start to clump together and the mascara will get chunky.” What she does instead is layer quickly while the product is still wet, which allows you to comb through your lashes more easily to keep them separated.

fakes lashesPoorly applied false lashes

False eyelashes can add thickness and length to your lashes, giving your eyes a larger appearance or more glamorous effect, but not if you apply them poorly. “One of the biggest mistakes I come across with false lashes is the placement on the eye. Whether you are using strip lashes or individuals, you want to make sure you are applying the base as close to your own lash line as possible,” advises Loren. “The key is to hide that strip so the lashes can blend into your natural ones.”

Expert tip: Her advice is to start with a very thin line of black eyeliner across the top lash line prior to applying the falsies, which creates the illusion of thicker lashes while also hiding the strip. Once you have your false eyelash in place, go over the top with another layer of eyeliner and blend lashes together with your mascara.

Green eyeshadowHarsh eyeshadow

Eyeshadow is a great way to play with color and change your look dramatically, but you want it to look natural, not like something out of a comic book or bad '80s movie. “One of the biggest eyeshadow offenses I find is unblended shadow with hard edges,” Loren says. “When layering on multiple colors, whether they are your everyday neutrals [or] your fun, bold brights, be sure to blend out any hard edges with a clean, dry shadow brush,” she advises. “You want a seamless finish between colors.”

Nicki Minaj and Adam Levine launch clothing lines

Nicki Minaj and Adam Levine are both venturing into retail with their own custom clothing lines.

Nicki Minaj and Adam Levine

Have you ever looked at Nicki Minaj's colorful outfits and thought, "Man, what wouldn't I give to dress like her"?

Yeah, we haven't either.

Still, the self-proclaimed black Barbie is coming out with a clothing and accessories line, according to the New York Post. She's not alone: Adam Levine is also set to come out with his own collection.

Where might you find the Minaj and Levine creations? They'll likely land at a mass retailer.

"The Kohl's partnership with Marc [Anthony] and Jennifer [Lopez] has been hugely successful," a retail insider told the Post, adding that the lines will go to stores like Target, Walmart or Kmart.

Celebrity clothing lines are the new celebrity fragrance or nail polish collection — and another way to squeeze every last dollar from fans eager to look like their favorite celebs. And they do bring in the dollars.

The Kardashian sisters sold millions of dollars' worth of clothes, accessories and housewares in their Kardashian Kollection. Bethenny Frankel also sold her line of Skinnygirl cocktails, shapewear and fitness accessories to Beam Inc. for a reported $120 million.

It sounds like Minaj is already on the way.

"Barbz, I am happy to announce that the Pink Friday fragrance was the #1 new launch @ Macy's this past December/Holiday Season =) Thank you!" she tweeted on Monday.

As for her clothing line? She told Rolling Stone that the most important thing is to make it affordable.

"I'm really looking forward to it because I feel like my fans are always asking me, 'Where'd you get this? Where'd you get that?' and sometimes they can't afford certain things, so my biggest goal was to make a line that was going to be affordable to my fans and also rich enough in quality that they'll feel like they're wearing exactly what I'm wearing," she said. "I'm really excited about that."

Will you buy clothes made by Adam Levine and Nicki Minaj?

Hello hot rollers! Retro hair tools worth pulling out of storage

We love to try out hot, new beauty tools, but there’s something fun about reaching into the past to find some fresh ways to get gorgeous. We’re sourcing some hair tools that may feel like a blast from the past, but they’re actually pretty useful.

Dita Von teese hair rollers

Hot rollers

Even though you can create waves and ringlets with increasingly smaller hair tools, oversize hot rollers of the past are worth revisiting. You might not realize it, but rollers can actually take less time to get the look you want than using a curling iron. All you have to do with rollers is pop them in, clip them on and let them cool, and you do that with larger sections of hair than you’d have to deal with when using a curling iron, which equals less time spent in front of the mirror. Once they’re cool, take them out, tousle and spray. Having to Individually section hair and wrap it around a curling iron can often be a lot more time consuming.

Dianna Kruger with hair comb

Side combs

We remember wearing side combs as kids, but then they seemed to go the way of the scrunchie. While scrunchies didn’t make our list , hair combs offer an easy and stylish way to tame your tresses with a retro twist. Whether you opt for something neutral or something more eye-catching , holding your hair back or simply accessorizing your updo is a lot easier with a few side combs in your collection of hair tools.

Jennie Garth with crimped hair

Crimper

Ready for a trip back to the late 1980s? If so, dig out and dust off your crimper. We had a pink one we loved and it’s worth rediscovering this hair tool for more than just a whim. Crimping small sections of hair is an easy way to add texture, especially for anyone with medium to long hair who needs a volume boost. You can also try crimping lightly all over for added texture without worrying that you look a little too retro. Plus, if you’re not doing your whole head or are just crimping lightly, getting the look you want should only take about 10 minutes depending on how long your hair is. Add a barrette with bling and you have a playful yet get-noticed look.

Julianne Hough with teased ponytail

Plastic combs

If you haven’t ever thought about picking up one of those small, plastic combs that seemed to be everywhere in decades past, there are actually a few reasons to get one. They can be used for back-combing or gently teasing your hair if you need to achieve a little height or add some texture when you’re creating an updo or putting your hair in a ponytail. Since they’re so small, they can also be stashed in even the smallest clutch or makeup bag for quick, on-the-go detangling or touch-ups while traveling.

Dr. Jart's Antioxidant Water BoosteTry a beauty drink

Honestly, the best “beauty” drink in the world is good old H2O! Start with six to eight glasses a day to flush out your skin and keep your body hydrated. You can boost your water with an antioxidant cocktail, such as Dr. Jart's Antioxidant Water Booster . This combination of antioxidant superfoods like goji berry and maqui berry helps fight free radicals to help your skin look young and fresh. You can also try a “green smoothie” like the recipe touted by Kimberly Snyder, author of The Beauty Detox Solution . This simple smoothie combines green vegetables like spinach and romaine lettuce with fruits for a powerful vitamin and nutrient punch.

Josie Maran Morroccan Cleansing Bar and Pouch Dry brush and scrub

No detoxifying program would be complete without dry brushing the skin all over your body. Not only do you exfoliate the top layer of dead skin cells, but you encourage circulation in your skin. Always dry brush before showering and move the brush in circular motions away from your heart. Follow the dry brushing with a gentle, but effective cleansing bar, such as the Josie Maran Moroccan Cleansing Bar and Pouch . The bar is made with detoxifying clays and moisturizing oils so you don’t strip your skin. Use it with the accompanying pouch to buff away even more dry skin and dirt.

Dr. Jart’s Black Label Detox Pore PenetratorGive me oxygen

We've all been told to put our oxygen mask on first before helping others during an emergency, and the same goes with taking care of your skin! Start by removing any impurities on your skin. Try a treatment like Dr. Jart’s Black Label Detox Pore Penetrator . This herbal-extracted pore care solution refines and tightens enlarged pores while it works to remove dead skin cells that cause blockage. Follow your pore treatment with a revitalizing oxygen mask, like Dr. Brandt’s Detoxygen Experience . It uses oxygen spheres to maximize oxygen transportation into your skin cells to breathe life into your skin.

Zen Detox Hair & Scalp Therapy treatmentExfoliate and massage your scalp

Beautiful hair starts when the scalp is clean and clear of any impurities. Detox your scalp by massaging it on a daily basis to increase circulation and blood flow all over your head. Follow with a detox scalp treatment, like the Zen Detox Hair & Scalp Therapy treatment . This innovative treatment uses special clays, herbs and spices to lift heavy metals and other toxins from your scalp, hair follicles, roots and oil glands. Once the impurities are removed, your hair has a better environment to grow and flourish.

2 People's Choice Awards hair trends we loved

Let the award season madness officially commence! Last night's People's Choice Awards gave us a nice little preview of the unending glamour we're about to witness, and we spied a few big hair trends. What were they? Let's break it down.

Julianne Hough, Brittany Snow and Regina King wearing bobs at the 2013 People's Choice Awards

1

The bob is back

The hot runway trend has translated into the lives of some of our fave Hollywood starlets. Cropped 'dos were all the rage on last night's People's Choice Awards red carpet, and I couldn't have been happier about it. Stars like Julianne Hough, Brittany Snow and Regina King showed off their wavy bobs and proved that long tresses don't have all the fun.

Lea Michele and Taylor Spreitler's braids and Taylor Swift's loose updo at the People's Choice Awards

2

Boho and braided updos

Braids continue to be a thriving trend, but the updos I saw last night almost seemed more appropriate for spring and summer than the middle of January. Then again, they were gorgeous and a little wishful thinking for the warmer months never hurts anyone. Some standout 'dos: Lea Michele and Taylor Spreitler's braids and Taylor Swift's loose updo.
