Indulge without packing on the pounds this holiday season with a Thanksgiving-inspired beauty routine. From cranberries to pumpkin pie, we’ve rounded up the best foodie beauty items to help you celebrate the season!

Fall beauty roundup

Scrumptious sides

1

Delight your pout with the tart taste of Cranberry Joy lip balm from The Body Shop . The light berry tint and soft shimmer are perfect for a subtle touch of color, and best of all, the cranberry scent will invoke Thanksgiving memories all year long.

2

While Thanksgiving is the time to be a glutton, don’t forget to sneak a vegetable or two into your meal. Double up on the antioxidants this year by incorporating carrots onto your plate and into your beauty routine. Just Say Yes to Carrots has an array of items to keep you glowing, like its moisturizing shampoo , which is chock-full of beta-carotene to keep your locks healthy and hydrated.

Guilt-free indulgence

3

Enjoy a creamy holiday tradition sans fat with Philosophy’s Old Fashioned Eggnog 3-in-1 Shampoo, Shower Gel and Bubble Bath . This holiday goodie does it all while satisfying your eggnog craving. Trust us, your hair and skin will thank you.

4

What holiday celebration is complete without a glass of wine? Aficionados of the bold and fruity beverage have a new reason to toast the holiday season — wine shower gel! Lush Cosmetics’ Glogg Shower Gel livens up bath time with a blend of organic red wine, brandy, cinnamon and clove.

5

Who doesn’t enjoy a cool, crisp glass of sparkling cider on Thanksgiving? Give your skin a taste of this holiday favorite with a splash of Fresh Apple Sparkling Pore Emulsion . Made by South Korean skin care company Skinfood, the treatment contains green apple extract and carbonated water to tighten pores and control oil.

Sugar overload

6

For a crisp and fruity indulgence, spritz on Bath & Body Works’ Honey Autumn Apple Fragrance Mist . The festive perfume melds red apple, sparkling nectarine and a touch of honey for a refreshingly yummy scent.

7

You won’t need to spend all day in the kitchen to enjoy the decadent scents of vanilla and spice. Instead, turn to Whish, a skin care company known for its yummy scents and paraben and sulfate-free beauty products. The limited edition Vanilla Spice scrub will conjure up images of your favorite bakery while keeping your skin baby smooth.

8

Thanksgiving wouldn’t be the same without a slice — or two — of pumpkin pie. Instead of going back for seconds, splash on Demeter’s Pumpkin Pie Perfume . You’ll enjoy the warm, rich scent of pumpkin, cinnamon, sugar and cloves without all the fat. Even better, this perfume will please you and your man since pumpkin pie is said to increase men’s arousal by 40 percent.

9

If you dream of overloading on sugary treats like pumpkin pie, candy apples and whoopie pies, you’re not alone. Thankfully, Bath & Body Works is serving up a variety of items that smell good enough to eat with its Liplicious lip glosses . From Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin to Winter Candy Apple, there is a sweet treat for every sugar junkie.

As much as we’re already missing sundresses and sandals, we’re pretty excited that it’s coat season. Coats, like shoes and bags, have become a bit of a fashion obsession and we can’t wait to expand our collection. This year though, we’ll be picking up polishes to match! If that’s not a great way to say hello to a new season, we don’t know what is.

Mellow yellow

Going green

If you’re bored with your outerwear collection, we suggest spicing it up with this ultra-cute swing coat in rich, fall-ready forest green . The flared, swing shape makes it a unique choice and the funnel neckline and pleated detailing add even more elegance to the design.

Kristen Stewart gets cheeky at the Breaking Dawn premiere

Kristen Stewart showed off her Zuhair Murad-clad assets at the premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 on Monday night.

Kristen Stewart at the Breaking Dawn 2 premiere

All eyes were on Kristen Stewart at the premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 last night — but it wasn't only because of her arm-in-arm with on-again boyfriend Robert Pattinson. Basically, all we could look at was KStew's sexy — and see-through — Zuhair Murad lace gown.

Our take? It looked amazing from the front, but the back definitely showed her high-waisted undergarments. The jury is still out on whether it's sexy or tacky, though Stewart loved it.

"I like this thing," she told reporters, according to People. "I feel alright."

Robert Pattinson at the Breaking Dawn premiere in Gucci

RPatz looked all sorts of amazing, thanks to his custom-made Chanel suit. "I had a dream about an emerald-green houndstooth suit," he said. "I got Gucci to make it."

It looks like we're not the only people to notice that the girl known as Bella Swan has gone through quite the sartorial change over the past year. The actress — known for her grungy hats and wide assortment of T-shirts — has reportedly adopted an all-designer wardrobe since her cheating scandal came to light this summer.

The cost? A cool $49K, according to a totally serious investigation by U.K. tabloid Heat. For starters, she opted for a colorful Zuhair Murad dress for her post-scandal stop at the Toronto International Film Festival with a staggering $22,000 price tag. She also wore a $7,300 Balenciaga outfit to a screening of On the Road earlier this fall.

"It's an odd relationship that us actresses get to have with fashion," she said earlier this month while filming a Balenciaga commercial.

"I had to have a relationship with fashion from such a young age — you walk down the red carpet, and it matters. It's strange," Stewart added in an October web chat.

The brunette added that she's still a simple California girl at heart.

"I'm from LA and unless the occasion calls for it, I'm a really simplistic, comfortable, straightforward dresser — I don't really think about it," she said. "I go anywhere outside of LA and I'm like, 'Oh God. I forgot to put socks on. I probably look silly, it's winter time.'"

Think outside the box

Every woman has suffered from having nothing to wear at some point. The problem is often not the clothes, but a sense of boredom with the way they present themselves. Creative makeup is a game-changer. Learn a few eye makeup tricks that will make you feel magazine-ready.

You look in the mirror and sigh. You look good… you do. But it’s not the first time you’ve worn that dress, and “good” is not the same thing as “exciting.” Somehow, your glam factor is idling around the middle. Before you max out your credit card on a hot new dress at BCBG, ask yourself — are you giving hair and makeup equal weight?

One of the easiest and least expensive ways to amp up your look is to experiment with your makeup. Don’t be intimidated by the looks you see in magazines. Having a dramatic eye look in your arsenal is just as critical to your sexy factor as your stilettos. Really, what man is going to look at your feet first?

concealerTip #1 — Prep the eye area

That favorite eye shadow isn’t going to do you much good once the oil in your crease melts it away. A good primer will really do its job, and skipping the under-eye concealer is not an option. Urban Decay Primer Potion is a go-to for many makeup artists, and Palladio Herbal Eyeshadow Primer is also a solid option at a drugstore price.

Tip #2 — Find your Holy Grail eye colors

If you get this right, you can just about skip every other tip besides #1. You want something vivid, eye-catching and ultra-flattering to your skin tone. Take a trip to the department store and boldly lay out $15 to $20 for one or two colors. You don’t want a makeover for this. It should instantly feel sexy with just a single coat on your lids. If you love it, go for it. Maybe add some eyeliner and… voila!

Tip #3 — It’s all about the brush

Pulling off a tricky eye makeup look will be 10 times easier if your tools are easy to work with. A good liner brush, shadow brush and perhaps a crease brush are a fine start.

Tip #4 — Enroll in YouTube University

The internet has made it possible to learn just about anything for free, and makeup is no exception. Here is one of the best ways to learn about those magazine looks that just seem too complicated for the average girl to pull off. There are so many YouTube makeup stars that if you can’t find one you like, you aren’t really looking. Black eyeshadow is far less intimidating after a lesson like this one from Pixiwoo.

Tip #5 — Have a pajama party

One hour before you are due to leave the house is not the time to go for that three-shadow look you’ve been dying to try. Now is the time to call on your girlfriends for moral support and honest feedback. You probably have a friend whose makeup is always great and you’ve been dying to pick her brain. Lure the girls to your house with promises of martinis and manicures and tell them to bring their makeup bag.

5 Belts every girl should own

$
0
0
When it comes to styling, the icing on every fabulous ensemble is the accessories that adorn it. With fall officially here, it’s all about layers, and the right collection of belts is ultra-crucial to pulling off a seamless look. Not only can the right belt accentuate your body’s natural curves, but this simple addition has the power to turn a little black dress into a fabulously decorated canvas. Ready to step up your belt collection, but not sure which styles to invest in? Below is my fashion guide to the five belts every girl should own.

Woman wearing belt

Classic

Classic

This belt is a no brainer. Every girl should possess a classic black and brown belt. Whether you pair it with casual denim or career trousers, this belt is an accessory staple. This is also the best investment piece when it comes to belts, so don’t feel guilty for spending a little extra when adding this classic piece to your wardrobe.

Animal inspired

Animal-inspired

When it comes to recurring fall trends, animal-inspired prints are always at the top of the list. Avoid going full animal kingdom and give a subtle nod to this trend with a killer belt. Whether you go with leopard print or a faux snake skin, this animal inspired must-have can jazz up dresses, skirts and pants, while pairing perfectly with fall's warm color palette.

Bright and bold

Bright and bold

Looking to spice up a simple dress for a girls' night out? A bright belt can make a major impact with minimal styling efforts. Since color trends change with each season, be budget-conscious with this purchase. I always suggest investing in a medium to small width. Since the eye-catching color is sure to stand out, be conscious of where you place it on your body, to avoid unwanted attention.

Woven

Woven

As a self-proclaimed dress fanatic, I can’t stress the importance of a woven belt enough. This style is best when tied to add styling flair to your ensemble. I suggest sticking with brown or tan to ensure its versatility. And the best part... the unlimited sizing options allow for the ideal fit whether you wear it around your natural waist or your hips.

Wide

A simple yet powerful wide belt is best showcased when placed on empire waist dresses or for creating shape when wearing a shift dress. The extra size makes it ideal for taming bulkier pieces like a cargo jacket. Invest in a wide black and brown belt and you’re sure to have unlimited styling options. To add an extra dash of style for fall, layer this belt over a chunky faux fur vest.

The '90s are back: How to rock the trend

$

Getting that awesome '90s look is all about working in some of our favorite casual trends — chambray, crop tops, cut-offs — and giving them a modern day flair with the right pieces. You can channel your inner Daisy Duke with class and flair if you emphasize the cool, chic looks and don't go overboard.
Clueless

The best of the decade!

The key to rocking the '90s look in our modern day fashion scene is to work in '90s pieces, but not go all 10 Things I Hate About You overboard. Or, take hints from the runway and take those typical '90s elements and make a full fashion statement with them — like this entirely chambray outfit from Balmain. The '90s were all about casual, cool, grunge which may seem difficult to make chic, but by emphasizing the right styles, it's not as hard as it sounds!

Chambray Pieces

Chambray pieces

Mix and match with other denim and chambray pieces or do a full chambray look! Chambray is a great fabric to create the grunge look because it naturally looks washed out and vintage — even when you buy it brand new!

Crop tops

In the '90s, this meant taking your favorite cotton rock tee and cutting off the extra two feet of fabric to make a cute, wearable top. Now, thankfully we have our favorite brands making crop tops for us that fit perfectly! Pair with skinny jeans or leather pants and boots to make it a more modern look. Throw a jean jacket or a chambray or plaid button down over this to keep warm and still keep that '90s flair.

Floral dresses and skirts

Floral dresses and skirts

Faded florals go hand in hand with '90s fashion, and with all the prints popping up in the fashion world these days, we are more than happy to welcome back the feminine '90s staple. Pair with a chic, shimmery, loose knit sweater and some layered jewelry for a '90s-inspired, modern boho-chic look.

Cut off shorts

Cut-off shorts

Oh, cut-offs. How we love you so. The '90s taught us how to save some serious cash and instead of throwing out our old ripped jeans, we just snipped off the legs and voila! New, fabulous cut-off shorts! If you're not so keen on the DIY method, there are some great pre-cut cut-offs these days in all different colors and patterns. Wear with a pair of great wedges for long legs and a silk blouse to incorporate that '90s flair to remain sophisticated and fashion forward.

Tie front shirts

Tie-front shirts

The '90s were all about effortless fashion — literally. Your shirt was too big and shapeless? '90s solution: Tie the front to give yourself a waist! We still love the idea of the tie-front shirt, so take your favorite silk blouse, chambray or plaid shirt and tie it up for a more laid-back, casual feel while still looking super chic.

Plaid shirts

Plaid shirts

Plaid shirts scream '90s garage band and we are all about it! Find one with a great color scheme to make your eyes pop and make sure it's tailored so it gives you a nice silhouette and you aren't swallowed up in the pattern!

Wedges / platforms

Wedges/platforms

Remember that little British girl group the Spice Girls? Yeah? Us too. And we will forever be thanking them for making the platform a closet staple since the '90s. Comfortable , fashionable and adds a few inches  — we love our platforms and will definitely be rocking them throughout the next millennium!

Rubber jellies

Rubber jellies

Remember when jellies were cool? We couldn't live without them when we were in the '90s, so it makes sense that this super squishy and comfortable footwear option would make a comeback!

Lace up oxfords

Lace up oxfords

Oxfords are the sophisticated version of flat sneakers, so if you need that extra bit of chicness to your look for a date or an interview, oxfords are the way to go!

Keds

Keds

The quintessential '90s sneaker! Simple, classic and comfortable, you can never go wrong with a pair of crisp white Keds. Plus, they go with anything and everything, giving that casual '90s feel to any outfit you're rocking.

From the Beauty Editor's desk: 2 Sustainable skin care lines to try

I'm not totally opposed to the chemical and the clinical when it comes to skin care, but there is definitely something to be said for products that rock an all-natural ingredient list. Since I am a bit of a hippie when it comes to my skin, here are two lines worth a try for all my fellow granola girls out there.
soap

I'm not totally opposed to the chemical and the clinical when it comes to skin care, but there is definitely something to be said for products that rock an all-natural ingredient list.

Eco-freak

Since I am a bit of a hippie when it comes to my skin, here are two lines worth a try for all my fellow granola girls out there.

Sprout Skincare

With all the buzz around this Brooklyn-based line , I was thrilled when their products came across my desk. They take pride in their slogan "less isn't more, less is everything." That's right: five ingredients or less in each product! The founder started making these products for her own sensitive skin, so her business comes packed with passion for what they do.

A few of my favorites:

Exfoliant

Exfoliant

It's made simply of organic oats, organic almonds and mineral rich sea salt. Seriously, that's it. Though I will warn you, it smells like oatmeal. There's no hiding that, but after you scrub it on your face, rinse and repeat two to three times per week, you won't regret it. Fresh and fabulous are two words that come to mind. Buy it here.

Makeup remover

Makeup remover

I'll never forget what my grandmother said, "Catherine, be nice to your eyes." Meaning, the skin around your eyes tends to be the most sensitive and it's one of the areas where wrinkles crash the party first. Sprout's simple recipe for removing leftover mascara will help you keep those skin patches moisturized and residue free. Thank goodness for simplicity! Buy it here.

Vegan lip blam

Vegan lip balm

Sure, gloss is important. But I never leave the house without lip balm. It helps smooth the surface for your lip color of choice. If you're open to letting vegan goodies into your life, opt for the peppermint or the citrus scents. The cocoa butter in these is organic and fair trade, along with a few other organic goodies. Buy it here.

The Seaweed Bath Co.

These guys have one main goal: to fight dry, flaky skin whether it's on your legs or your scalp. They are a head-to-toe kind of company. The main ingredient for their line is, you guessed it, seaweed. They hand-harvest wild bladdewrack seaweed and combine it with a series of natural ingredients to formulate their products. The founder himself suffered from psoriasis and aims to make a cure for problem skin — one that doesn't involve harsh chemicals and prescriptions.

A few of my favorites:

Argan hair care

Argan hair care

My best friend and hair stylist recently accused me of a flaky scalp , so The Seaweed Bath Co. and team couldn't have come into my life at a better moment. Eucalyptus and peppermint were my scents of choice and the best part is that you're also getting a little aromatherapy action. Since Eucalyptus is anti-stress, this shampoo and conditioner duo was great for those nighttime showers after post work-day workouts. Buy it here.

Powder bath

Powder bath

Baths tend to be controversial these days. Haven't you heard someone say, "I don't want to soak in my own dirt!" We all know that even those people secretly take baths every now and again. However, I kind of get their point. That's why I do a quick shower and shampoo session, and then fill up the tub. Seaweed Bath Co.'s powder bath was a nice addition to that ritual. Though I tried the Eucalyptus, I'm a sucker for anything lavender. Buy it here.

Body wash

Body wash

The citrus scent was like a cup of coffee in the morning — it perked up my senses and made me feel a little more alive in the early morning. Don't get me wrong. I still needed my cup of coffee and I'm not suggesting you skip yours, but this was a nice way to get the motion going. All the while, you're absorbing those good, natural ingredients to ward off dry skin. Buy it here.

Meet-the-mom looks

One of the most intimidating things about dating someone new is the inevitable trip to meet his mom. Will she like you? Will you like her? Well, at least you can look good while you wait for her stamp of approval and we have three ways to do it.

Pretty & preppy

Not sure what to wear when you meet his mom? We can suggest a perfectly preppy ensemble that’s sure to impress. Start with knit tights and a pleated skirt, which is youthful yet sophisticated. Add a black turtleneck for a streamlined look, step into some wedge booties and top everything off with an eye-catching statement necklace.

Pretty & preppy

Get the look: Topshop Tweed Inverted Pleated Skirt , Mango Turtleneck T-shirt , Armani Exchange Opaque Tights , Anthropologie Sea Shingle Necklace , Kera Wedge Booties

Comfy-chic

While jeans and a T-shirt are far too casual for a first-time mom meeting, you can still create a comfortable yet pulled together look with denim as your base. Start with colored denim in something vibrant, add a cozy sweater in a rich fall-ready hue, some stylishly structured boots and a blazer to add a more formal twist. A beaded cuff helps bring everything together for a no-fail meet-the-mom outfit.

Comfy-chic

Get the look: J. Crew Toothpick Low Rise Skinny Jeans , H&M Wool Blend Sweater , Mango Leather Knee Boots , Zara Blazer with Shoulder Detailing , Topshop Mix Beaded Cuff

Fresh and fabulous

Shorts with tights can make for a fun and fresh fall outfit and something ideal for meeting his mom for the first time. Go for tweed or herringbone shorts, which are perfect for cooler weather. Add tights and slouchy boots and a sweater in a bright color. Pull the look together with a simple clutch and you’re ready to make a great first impression.

Fresh and fabulous

Get the look: French Connection Isar Herringbone Mini Shorts , Anthropologie Opaque Tights , Women’s Mossimo Kailey Flat Slouchy Boot , All Saints Elgar Cowl Neck Pullover , American Apparel Small Suede Envelope Clutch

Friday's Fashion Obsessions: Ashley Greene and Dawn Olivieri

Ashley Greene and Dawn Olivieri's beautiful celebrity styles made us do a double take this week! We're telling you why in this week's installment of Friday’s Fashion Obsessions.

Ashley Greene

Ashley Greene

So we're kind of crushing on Ashley Greene here at SheKnows this month, and this week, I fell in love with her red carpet look for the premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 in Los Angeles.

I guess being the front woman for Donna Karan has its perks: Ash certainly dressed to impress in her custom Donna Karan Atelier dress. Doesn't she look like a Grecian goddess? The soft, flowing fabric glides across Ashley's body yet also fits her in such a flattering way. And that shoulder detailing? Don't even get me started.

The final verdict? I think this is the perfect look for the series' finale. It shows how sophisticated Ashley's style has become over time and is the perfect way to go out on top.

Dawn Olivieri

Dawn Olivieri

This isn't the first time Dawn Olivieri has made my best dressed list, and I don't think it'll be the last either! The House of Lies star hit the Breaking Dawn Part 2 premiere this week rocking a super sexy ensemble that I'm totally jealous of.

So what was Dawn wearing? Well, we got the scoop! The star was sporting an Alice + Olivia dress, Giuseppe Zanotti heels, Zuhair Murad earrings and a Tris bracelet. How's that for a fashion lineup?! I'm digging the leather detailing on the front of this chic LBD, and even though you can't see it from this view, you'll just have to trust me when I say that the dress' back is super sexy.

The final verdict? I love dresses that have a surprise, don't you? Business in the front, party in the back, so to speak. Well done, Dawn!

Friday's Fashion Fails: Lena Dunham and Heidi Klum

Oops... even celebrities get it wrong sometimes! We're telling you why Lena Dunham and Heidi Klum's fashions fell short in our weekly feature. Learn from the stars' sartorial slip ups!

Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham

Oh, Lena... we just love your HBO hit show Girls and we get that you play a quirky, awkward character on TV, but this is reality and the red carpet, sweetie. Actress-writer-director-producer and now author Lena Dunham attended Glamour's Women of the Year awards wearing this sad sack of a dress.

Her Roksanda Ilincic designed gown desperately needs a tailor. It's so baggy and shapeless, and the excess fabric in the middle does absolutely nothing flattering for her figure. The different colored sleeves remind us of our tee ball jerseys back in the day, and the mid-calf length hem isn't doing her any favors, either.

Lena should also learn how to pose! Even if your dress is hideous, standing up straight, putting your shoulders back and placing a hand on your hip would do wonders for her silhouette.

The final verdict? Lena, you can't be good at everything, so do yourself a favor and get a stylist. Your star is only rising from here on out, so you may as well learn how to rock the red carpet. Ditch the dress, but keep those shiny high heels.

Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum was so bummed her annual Halloween party in NYC got cancelled due to the hurricane this year, she decided to wear a costume while hosting MTV's EMA awards in Frankfurt, Germany. Because the Project Runway host and fashionista couldn't seriously think this getup was OK, could she?

Don't get us wrong — Heidi has an amazing body and would look gorgeous in almost anything, but the lace-up bodice and super high thigh slit scream Vegas streetwalker to us. Besides all that skin showing, the printed, embellished, one-sleeved ensemble looks cheap. And the matching lace-up blue shoes are the icing on this tacky cake.

The final verdict? If you've got it, flaunt it... but don't overexpose it, Heidi! We know you're a single, sexy hot mama, but please say Auf Wiedersehen to this garish gown. We love your hair and makeup though!

Florence Welch

We're obsessed!

We have a total crush on Florence Welch's chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!

I'm not typically a huge fan of Florence Welch's style — I guess you could say it's just not my cup of tea — but this week, I was so excited to see what she wore to the LACMA 2012 Art + Film Gala! Between her gorgeous cobalt blue Gucci gown and that ethereal boho-chic braided updo, I was definitely intrigued.

Braids have been gaining popularity for quite some time now, so I reached out to Florence's hair stylist Nikki Providence to get a step-by-step how-to for you. Enjoy!

  1. Beginning with clean, damp hair, spray Davines Defining Texturizer at the roots and MELU Shield on the length of the hair. The Texturizer will give hair hold and volume, and the MELU Shield will help protect hair from heat damage.
  2. Using your favorite round brush, blow dry hair.
  3. Concentrating on the ends of hair, apply a couple of drops of Davines OI/OIL to condition and protect hair while in braids. An added bonus? It'll give you an extra dose of shine without adding greasiness!
  4. Divide locks into two sections and braid each side, making sure to begin each braid just above the ear.
  5. Take each braid and wrap it around the top of your head, securing with pins.
  6. If you're in the mood for an extra dose of glam, take a couple of necklaces and pin them into your hair, like Florence did here!

Anya's beauty essentials

I’ll admit it — my makeup bag is a part of me. I feel like it is one of my limbs. I know where it is at all times and feel the need to take it everywhere I go... even if I never open it.

That being said, your makeup bag doesn’t need to be overwhelming and stuffed with things you don’t really need. You just need to know the essentials.

I have been a guinea pig for tons of products and researched the best in natural, non-toxic makeup because using natural, chemical-free products is essential for your skin, body and health. So, here are my absolute favorite must-have items that are in my beauty bag with me wherever I go.

Tarte Clay Concealer

Tarte Clay Concealer

There’s no need to pile on your makeup with both concealer and foundation. I love Tarte Clay Concealer because it acts as both and is so easy to apply. It is perfect when you’re on the go, and it's natural because no girl needs parabens or other nasty chemicals.

Couleur Caramel Mascara

Couleur Caramel Mascara

If I could have one thing on a desert island, it would be my mascara. If you don’t wear a lot of makeup, just put on mascara in the morning and it will instantly give you a little boost.

100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Blush

100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Blush

This all-natural blush comes in a variety of colors. Don’t be afraid of a pink blush — it can give you that soft, flirty look in two seconds.

Crush Duwop Metallic Eyeshadow

Crush Duwop Metallic Eyeshadow

People have stopped me on the street to ask me what my eyeshadow is. Now I am revealing my secret weapon — the Duwop Metallic Eyeshadow. I am such a fan of this eyeshadow. You just apply a little bit of the gold or rose metallic shadow and it instantly gives you a bright-eyed look. You don’t have to mess around with blending different colors or shadows. Who has time for that anyway?

Ferro GLOW Mineral Bronzer

Ferro GLOW Mineral Bronzer

By sweeping bronzer over your face, you instantly look healthier, sun kissed, and it can even make your face look thinner. Ever since I started using the Ferro GLOW Mineral bronzer, I have never stopped. The best part is, they’re 100 percent natural! For a natural look, pick one the same shade as your skin. And if you want to appear sun kissed, go a shade darker.

GLEAM Lip Radiance by Melanie Mills

GLEAM Lip Radiance by Melanie Mills

To finish off your face, all you need is a great gloss. I used to walk around with 40 glosses until I found GLEAM Lip Radiance. It conditions the lips and provides staying power on the pout. No matter what your coloring is, your gloss should be natural and light. Try a light pink or a nude for a great everyday look.

Arcona Triad Face Pads

Arcona Triad Face Pads

Every single year, my New Year's resolution is to wash my face every night before bed. Sounds so easy, but how many of us have gone to sleep without washing our faces ? The Arcona pads are perfect for when you just can't get out of bed to wash your face. You keep them by your bedside and they take everything off and smell amazing. Warning: These are addictive!

Bella B Soothing Wipes

Bella B Soothing Wipes

These 100 percent natural, skin sensitive baby wipes are the secret to a clean, finished look. Bonus tip: I have a pack in my car as well as my makeup bag just for those last minute touch-ups.

How to prevent frizz

We're partnering up with some of the hair industry's top talents to bring you answers to your most pressing hair questions. Up today? Justine Piecuch, a stylist at Boston's renowned Jeffrey Lyle Salon, is showing us how to prevent dreaded frizz in your curls.

Your question

"Help out the curly girls! How can I keep frizz away without weighing down my curls?"

Justine's answer!

Treat, treat and treat. Curls are very fragile and have the tendency to break. Due to the "S" shaped pattern in a curl, the break causes the hair to stick straight out. This would be what we all call frizz.

My recommendation would be to do an intense conditioning treatment weekly. This will help strengthen hair and prevent breakage. Try using a very wide tooth comb or fingers to comb the hair when conditioner is in or when getting out of the shower. Taking really good care of your hair will help minimize all the goop you need to put in.

Try using different types of styling aids. Finding the best one for you may require doing a bit of leg work and search. Depending on your hair type, go with leave-in conditioners for fine hair to heavier styling creams or oil based ones for more medium to thick textures. Also, play with the amount of product you're using. Just because it says to use a hazelnut sized amount doesn't mean you have to. Go in with a little more or a little less.

Pay attention to how you're placing the product in the hair and try to have a method. If you're just rubbing your hands together and slapping it in your hair, chances are you're not even placing the product where it really needs to go, completely defeating the purpose of using it.

Maybe try applying it underneath first and working your way up the back of the head into the front, distributing it throughout each section. Last but not least, make sure to maintain your haircuts, making sure to never exceed eight weeks. A longer timeframe is akin to going without water!

Who wore it better: Nicki Minaj or Julie Bowen?

$

Modern Family actress Julie Bowen was added to numerous best dressed lists after she walked the red carpet in yellow, helping Monique Lhuillier prove that the color doesn't have to be a fashion fail. Did Nicki Minaj help bring that point home at the 40th Annual American Music Awards?

The funny and blunt Julie Bowen is up against the always-in-character Nicki Minaj for what Joan Rivers would call B**** Stole My Look on E!'s Fashion Police. Technically, Nicki stole it from Julie, but who wore it better?

It's no doubt that yellow is making its own statement within the already bold statement of brights and neons in the world of fashion. We love that Julie Bowen took a chance by wearing such a color on the Emmy red carpet. On the contrary, we love that Nicki Minaj toned down her risky fashion choices for a gown that still screams "look at me!" without going 10 steps too far down the crazy hill.

Nicki Minaj at the American Music Awards and Julie Bowen at the Emmy Awards wearing Monique Lhuillier

Pros to Nicki's American Music Awards look...

She brings a sass and spunk to this red carpet look that a yellow gown of this kind deserves. Her hair still steers towards the funky side in order to represent classic Nicki, where her clunky jewelry also seems spot on — her ring and necklace bring some pink-ish, green-ish and blue-ish hues to the yellow-dominated look.

Pros to Julie Bowen's Emmy look...

She was the original star to bring this look to the red carpet and she definitely let the dress do most of the talking. Given it is such a strong color, she played it smart. All she needed was a simple clutch and a little bling. Another smart decision? Her pulled back hairstyle that allows her to show off her fair skin and those too-cute earrings.

Now it's your turn to decide. Who wore it better?

Christina Aguilera gets blunt at the AMAs

Christina Aguilera showed up at the 2012 American Music Awards rocking a completely different look. We asked her stylist, David Babaii, how we can get the same style at home.

Christina Aguilera's hair isn't typically on our list of celebrity hairstyles to copy, but her blunt look from the 2012 American Music Awards was quite the pleasant surprise. The Lotus singer stepped onto the AMA red carpet clad in a purple Pamella Roland gown and short blond style.

Christina Aguilera is embracing her post-pregnancy body >>

It seems like everyone has an opinion over Aguilera's awards show look, though we're loving it — it's a nice break from the two-sizes-too-small dresses she's been wearing over the past couple of years. The hair is quite the nice addition, though it is quite the departure from the long extensions she's been wearing as of late, but hairstylist David Babaii said she was all about it.

Christina Aguilera: I didn't talk about my fat! >>

"Christina can pull off any look. She allows me to play with different styles and master the art of illusion," Babaii said Monday.

To create the look at home, he advises us to:

  • Invest in a great cut.
  • Prep the hair with IT&LY Hairfashion's line of cruelty-free Purity Design products.
  • Use a vegan round hairbrush and ionic blow dryer to get a sleek finish.
  • Finish with IT&LY's Pure Definition Spray for touchable hold and Pure Water Drops serum for shine.

Or, invest in a Cleopatra-style wig if you're not quite ready to take the plunge on your own.

With all the harvest ales out this season, you’re bound to find a few you like to drink. But you can also use your favorite beer for an at-home, spa-like treatment for your hair and face.

Not only is beer good for building body in your hair, but it may also help keep acne under control. For your hair: The malt and hops found in beer are loaded with protein and act as a "body builder" for your hair, leaving it looking fuller and more lush. For your face: If your skin is no stranger to a breakout, you can make a great mask with beer. Hops in beer may act as an astringent, and it’s said that the yeast helps to maintain a balanced pH level, helping to keep acne at bay.

Check out these two easy DIY treatments for beer shampoo and a beer face mask. Open a bottle to make the shampoo, and then use the rest for a wonderful face mask.

DIY beer shampoo

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup mild shampoo
  • 1/4 cup beer
  • 1 large, clean shampoo bottle, or glass or plastic container

DIY Beer Shampoo

Directions:

1

Pour the beer into a saucepan and boil over high heat.

DIY Beer Shampoo

2

Allow the beer to cool, and then add the mild shampoo to it and mix well.

DIY Beer Shampoo

3

Use a funnel to pour the beer shampoo into your container and use for your next shampoo.

DIY Beer Shampoo

DIY beer face mask

This mask is a bit runny, but it dries when you put it on your face. There will be enough here for at least two masks. Share with a friend or place the extra in an airtight container and refrigerate. Use within a day or two, making sure to whisk it before using it.

Take a note

Before applying the mask to your face, first test it on your inner arm, where you skin is more sensitive, to help ensure you can tolerate the ingredients. Wash your face to remove any dirt or makeup, dry thoroughly, and then apply the mask starting from the chin and working your way up, avoiding your eyes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon beer
  • 1 tablespoon plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract

DIY Beer Face Mask

Directions:

1

Add all the ingredients to a medium-sized bowl and whisk them together until incorporated.

DIY Beer Face Mask

2

Pull your hair away from your face and apply the mixture to clean, damp skin. Find a spot where you can relax with the mask on your face for about 15 minutes. Gently wash off the mask with warm water, either in the shower or with a soft cloth, and then splash it with cold water.
