Gilt City Fashionista: Checking in to Boston's Salon Mario Russo

Love a bargain? So do I! That's why over the next few months, I'll be scouting out some of the hottest beauty and fashion bargains for you with one of the leaders in the industry: Gilt Groupe. Up today? A local deal in Boston!

Salon Mario Russo

I don't know about you, but I love a beauty discount. Staying pretty doesn't come cheap after all, and whenever I get the chance to check out a new beauty hotspot in my area at a major discount, I'm game. So when Gilt City recently told me about an offer they had on their site at Boston's Salon Mario Russo, I was there before you could say "blowout."

I love exploring my city whenever I get the chance, and Gilt City's "best of the best" offers help a gal explore new treasures in her own backyard. So how did my experience measure up? Let's find out!

The info

  • The salon: Salon Mario Russo
  • The location: Boston's renowned Newbury Street
  • The stylist: Demetri Papadopoulos
  • The deal: A conditioning treatment and blowout for a mere $55!

The verdict

Newbury Street is one of my favorite spots in Boston. There's just something special about the area, and it's never more beautiful than in the fall when the leaves are changing. So I'm always excited to get an excuse to venture out to the Back Bay area.

This was easily one of the best blowouts I've ever had! Demetri was so friendly and easy to talk to and did an impeccable job with my hair. As a curly gal with bangs, I always enjoy having someone else smooth out my hair from time to time just for a change! By the time I was done at the salon, my hair was beyond shiny and smooth and had loads of bounce. I'd call that a great day.

Quick Tip

Live in Boston or visiting on vacation? Check out Gilt City's current offer for Athena Aveda Salon Spa and keep your eyes open for their upcoming Bella Sisters offer in Back Bay.

Woman with nice skin

Caring for your skin is simple, right? Not always! With so many products on the market geared toward getting us glowing, it can be tough to know what our skin really needs.

Skin care secrets

If you’re confused as to how best to cleanse and care for your complexion, we have a no-fail plan.

We asked skin care expert Kirk Brierley, National Training Manager at RoC Skincare, for his tips on how to create the ultimate skin care routine.

Beauty basics: Skin care 101

Healthy, happy skin shouldn’t be a chore to achieve. Brierley shares this simple four-step plan for squeaky clean skin.

Step 1: Cleanse and tone with your favorite products.

Step 2: Treat your skin. Apply serums, gels and any topical spot treatments and let them soak in for five minutes. Spread serum onto damp skin for extra hydration.

Step 3: Nourish your skin. Dab eye cream around your eyes and apply your favorite moisturizer to the rest of your face.

Bonus steps: Be sure to exfoliate skin once or twice a week. On the evenings that you don't exfoliate, use a purifying or hydrating mask to pamper skin.

Serums: Do I need one?

lotion

Brierley mentioned serums in step two, as a way to treat skin, but are they necessary? “The primary reason we recommend using a serum is to get more nutrients and moisture into the deeper layers of your skin that a regular moisturizer is usually not able to reach,” he explains. “Regular moisturizers have large molecules, which can only penetrate the first layer of the skin as they hydrate and seal in moisture. A facial serum is made of smaller molecules, and because of this, it is able to penetrate deeply into all the layers of the skin.”

After cleansing, use an alcohol-free toner and then apply your serum to toner-dampened skin. This helps the ingredients in the serum to penetrate deeper into skin to give you better results.

3 Mistakes to avoid

If your skin is looking less-than-ideal lately, your skin care routine could be to blame. Make sure you’re not guilty of one of these bad skin care habits, says Brierley.

Over-washing: Excessively cleansing your face strips it of necessary oils, dries skin out and can cause irritation. At most, you should be washing your skin three times a day.

Using harsh cleaners: All you need is a mild cleanser to clean your skin. Most people buy harsh or abrasive cleansers thinking that they will do a better job, but these often create more harm by irritating skin.

Not knowing your skin type: You need to know your skin type in order to find the right type of cleanser for you. Do you have oily skin or dry skin, or somewhere in between? Do you suffer from an occasional zit or persistent breakouts? Learning your skin type will help make sure you buy the correct product to care for it.

No-fail skin care rules

“The best skin care rules go back to basics,” says Brierley. “By incorporating these five skin care rules into your daily lives, this will ensure that you maintain healthy skin and put your fresh face forward.”

  • Avoid over exposure to the sun and practice daily sun care
  • Drink more water
  • Manage stress
  • Maintain a healthy and balanced diet
  • Daily, gentle cleansing and appropriate moisturizing

Denim is breaking away from the boring blues and taking the spotlight with sequins and leather. Frankie B. designer Daniella Clarke shows us how to wear fall’s flashy trends like your favorite celebs in this segment of SheKnows' Beauty Beat.

Celebrities wearing denim

Tired of your basic blue and black skinnies? Well, then this is your season! Denim is breaking the mold with tons of fresh, fun new styles for fall.

We headed over to the Frankie B. premium denim showroom in downtown Los Angeles to check out all the cool new looks we’ve seen celebrities sporting lately and figure out what to wear with them.

Frankie B. has been around for ages, and as a favorite of celebs like Fergie, Jennifer Lopez and Katie Holmes, is always on the edge of fashion. Designer Daniella Clarke showed us the top trends for this fall and the upcoming holiday season and even modeled a few pairs!

Beauty Beat: Celebrity Denim Trends

Frankie B. designer Daniella Clarke shows us how to wear the hottest celebrity denim trends this season.

Fall’s top denim trends

Printed denim

Printed denim

This look started in the summer but is continuing to build steam. Celebrities like Rachel Bilson and Rumer Willis are fans of the look. Try it in cool patterns like floral, geometric or stars .

Colored, coated denim

Colored, coated denim

Oxblood, fuchsia and plum are all popular colors this season. Combine those hues with the leathery look of coated denim and you’ll be right on trend. Blake Lively was seen sporting this look in dark brown skinnies while filming Gossip Girl in NYC.

Leather

Leather

So this isn’t exactly “denim,” but leather is a hot look with or without the baby blues. Over at Frankie B. they’ve combined the two with their Hollywood Denim-Leather Skinny. Pair this look with a simple white printed tee for a laid-back, rocker vibe.

Metallic denim

Metallic denim

Perfect for those holiday parties, metallic denim is a fun way to celebrate the season. Dress it down with a simple solid tee, or pair with a similar shimmery top for a fancier look. Celebs like Dancing with the Stars’ Karina Smirnoff and Jessica Alba have been seen sporting the look.

Striped denim

Striped denim

Contrary to popular belief, stripes don’t always make you look fat! As Daniella told us, “These stripes are going the right direction.” Try this look, as seen on Heidi Klum, as a quick fix to slim down without skipping holiday treats.

Sequined denim

Sequined denim

By far the most flashy denim look this season is sequins. Show your holiday spirit by sporting a pair on New Year's or dressed down for a trip to the grocery store. Daniella says she likes to embrace their extravagance and play it up with more standout pieces like fur.

Fact

Frankie B. launched in 1999 and was named after Daniella's daughter Frankie, now a college student in California.

Flasses for your face shape

$

We already know how much of an impact things like shoes, scarves and jewelry can have on an outfit, but what about eyewear? Even if you don’t need glasses, you can still wear a pair for fun. Fake glasses offer a unique way to enhance your features and we have some tips on choosing the best pair for your face shape.

Our pick: Madewell Super Ciccio Eyeglasses

If your face is round

Round faces are usually fuller in the cheeks with a wider forehead and rounded chin. Think Drew Barrymore and Emma Stone. The goal of your eyewear should be to create angles and balance out the fullness of your features. Square or rectangular plastic frames in dark hues are a good choice since they work to add the illusion of angles.

Our pick:Madewell Super Ciccio Eyeglasses

Our pick: Kate Spade New York Pippie

If your face is oval

An oval or oblong face is longer than it is round and usually has higher cheekbones and a balanced jaw and forehead. Think Beyonce and Charlize Theron. If you have an oval face, you’re lucky in that most frames will work with your features, although angular shapes can help enhance your overall shape.

Our pick: Kate Spade New York Pippie

Our pick: Marlowe Brushed Platinum frames

If your face is heart-shaped

A heart-shaped face means you’ve got a wide forehead that tapers to a smaller chin or narrow jaw. Think Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett Johansson. You likely have high cheekbones and need a pair of frames that will balance out the narrowness of the lower face. Square frames with rounded edges or something thinner and semi-transparent can also be flattering.

Our pick: Marlowe Brushed Platinum frames

Our pick: Terrain Round Tortie readers

If your face is square

Square faces are symmetrical but feature a broad forehead, strong jaw line and squared off chin. Think Demi Moore and Sandra Bullock. The goal with your eyewear should be to soften the stronger lines of your face slightly. Softer shapes work well to create balance. Also, be sure to look for thinner frames so you don’t create an unwanted bulky effect.

Our pick: Terrain Round Tortie readers

Harvest-hued looks

While summer saw pretty pastels and a nod to neon, fall is all about celebrating style with rich harvest hues. Deep reds, vibrant yellows, plum and orange make for an ideal colder weather color palette and we’re putting together some must-try outfits based on our new favorite shades.

Harvest look 1: Cute and cozy

Yellow is one of our favorite harvest-inspired hues and a great shade to build an outfit around. Start with a cozy, cable knit sweater. Layer over skinny jeans, add a black wedge mid-height boot and top the relaxed, weekend-ready look off with a leather jacket and a large tote in a rich plum color. Whether you're heading to your favorite brunch spot or shopping with friends, this is an easy way to look great while feeling ultra-comfy.

Harvest look 1: Cute and cozy

Get the look: Talbots Cashmere Cable Turtleneck , Topshop Moto Blue Supersoft Skinny Leigh Jeans , Lucky Brand Sanna Boots , Mango Leather Cropped Jacket , Marimekko Weekender Two Plum Bag

Harvest look 2: Office-friendly

Spicing up your office look doesn’t have to be tough. We suggest starting with a prominent piece in oxblood and building from there. Add a fitted button-up blouse, black tights, sleek ankle booties and top the look off with a cropped denim jacket that can easily take your ensemble into evening.

Harvest look 2: Office-friendly

Get the look: Dorothy Perkins Oxblood Ponte Pencil Skirt , Emilio Cavallini Black Tights , Anthropologie Nightfall Booties , J. Crew Blyth Blouse , Quicksilver Easter Lookout Denim Jacket

Harvest look 3: Date night

Putting together a stylish fall-ready date night look is easy with the right pieces. Start with a patterned dress awash with harvest-inspired hues and add tights and to-the-knee stacked heel boots. Enhance your outfit with some gold accessories and tote all your essentials for a night out in a bold red bag.

Harvest look 3: Date night

Get the look: Madewell Mirrorflower Dress , Threadsence Hidden Fate Tights in black , Calvin Klein Hanabell Tall Boots , Hive & Honey Extra Wide Wired Cuff , Audrey Lilian Shopper

skillfully layer this fall

What’s your favorite thing about fall? The chill in the air? Pumpkins? How about fall foliage? Well, one of the things I look forward to every fall is the opportunity to start layering my clothing, creating completely new and unique combinations.

Layering stretches your wardrobe in the most amazing way. Because you can wear your items in so many different variations, it gives the illusion that your closet stretches for days, even if in reality it’s just minutes.

But how do you layer the right way? Are there rules? How can you avoid looking too bulky or sloppy? Have no fear, today I’m going to give you my three favorite tips to layer with confidence!

3 Secrets for layering success

Skillful layering can be easy with Jill top three fall layering tips.

Layering from J. Crew

Texture

When you layer, consider the entire array of textures at your disposal. The more varied and interesting the mix of textures, the more stylish and amazing your finished look! Look to tweeds, knits, silk, snakeskin, suede, faux fur, leather and sequins to add not just color but dimension to your outfit.

A good tip is to start with your lightest fabric, add something medium weight, and then finish on top with the heaviest piece, like the folks at J. Crew did here.

Layering from TopShop

Yin/yang

If your outfit is heavier on top, keep your bottom half skinny and vice versa. This simple tip will avoid looking too layered, too bulky and too done.

The most interesting layered looks that I find mix high style pieces with low budget items and diametrically opposed themes, such as lace and studs, velvet with distressed denim, sequins and snakeskin, gold brocade with a simple plaid. Need some more inspiration? Check out Topshop.

Layering from Nordstrom

Accessories

We could never talk about layering without discussing accessories! Scarves, gloves, tights and socks are key in creating an overall cohesive, perfectly layered look. And don’t forget belts. If your layered look seems too bulky, a great belt may be just what’s needed to define your waist and save the look.

Finally, to anchor the volume of layers and keep your look in balance, you’ll want to wear a heavier, chunky boot or shoe.

Now, although I don’t believe in fashion rules per se, sometimes it’s important to start with a general guideline. Typically, layering three to four clothing items and wearing three to four accessories is good place to start. Take a cue from the folks at Nordstrom here.

One of the greatest gifts you will ever give yourself when it comes to your style is the time to experiment and try new things. So get in your closet, start mixing and layering, and see what brilliant concoctions you come up with! This process is supposed to be fun, so no judging.

Up next

So there you have it, SK Style Watchers, a few of my favorite basic tips for layering! On the video next time, I’ll be talking about what you can wear to hide a few extra pounds. Perfect for the holidays, right? Thanks so much for watching. For SheKnows Style and Beauty, I’m Jill Laine.

10 Gifts that pamper the important women in your life

Every woman enjoys a little pampering now and then. Okay, fine. We love a lot of pampering as often as possible. But we deserve it! We work hard every day to make everyone else’s life a little easier. So if you’re looking to pamper the special woman in your life, here are some great gifts to consider.

robe

Wrap her in a robe

There’s nothing quite as comfortable as a soft, cozy robe. The simplest way to pamper any woman is to give her a great quality robe that she can wrap herself in every day. They’re especially important in these colder months. The perfect robe is waiting at the closest T.J.Maxx.

closed sign

Give her a day off

A woman’s work is never done. Take the initiative to give her a day off to pamper herself at her leisure. Instead of sending her off, leave her alone in the house to lounge in her comfy clothes. That’s all a girl really wants.

plate

A delicious dinner

Take the most important woman in your life to the best restaurant in town. Make a reservation at a restaurant you’ve always wanted to try but never got around to and enjoy a meal together.

slippers

Shop for slippers

Any woman who walks around in cute shoes all day is also always walking around with aching feet. Pamper her with a pair of plush slippers to wear instead. You can match them to a robe or buy them separately in her favorite color. Either way she’ll thank you.

wine

Pack a picnic

Surprise her in the middle of the day by packing a picnic just for two. Make sure to find her favorite wine and drive her to the prettiest spot in town. If she doesn’t have much time to spare you can always use your own backyard or her office as a temporary picnic area.

Buy bath goodies

A great way to pamper your special woman is to draw her a serene bath. Stores like LUSH specialize in creating a tranquil bath experience and offer great products for her to use. Set everything up ahead of time with candles so all she has to do is lay back and relax.

mask

A fresh facial

Give her the gift of a fresh face with a relaxing facial at home. Products like Rose Face Mask from Fresh are available at Sephora work wonders on any woman’s face. As an added bonus the hydrating mask contains real rose petals!

Spa

Send her to a spa

If she’s not the DIY kind of woman, send her to a spa to have other people pamper her. You can give her a full day of services including facials and massages. She’ll come back feeling like a brand new woman.

Bracelet

Always accessorize

They don’t say diamonds are a girl’s best friend for nothing. You don’t have to buy something that extravagant, but the best way to pamper a woman is to buy her some beautiful jewelry. Personalize it with a thoughtful engraving for extra points.

Chocolate

Choose chocolate

Send the woman you love some sweet treats at work. Choose a variety of her favorites and send them to her throughout the day so she’s constantly reminded that you love her more every minute.

Friday's Fashion Fails: Amy Adams and Sharon Stone

$
0

Oops... even celebrities get it wrong sometimes! We're telling you why Amy Adams and Sharon Stone's fashions fell short in our weekly feature. Learn from the stars' sartorial slip ups!

Amy Adams

Amy Adams

Holy hoop skirt! Amy Adams clearly had a floral flashback when she got dressed for the On the Road premiere in LA. The actress donned a strapless Dolce & Gabbana disaster that looks better suited for herding sheep than attending a red carpet Hollywood event.

The botanical print itself isn't awful, but the skirt is way too big. Once she gets into the theater, how the heck is she going to fit in a seat with that huge dress on? We hope her publicist reserved a whole row for the starlet, because she's going to need it.

Massive skirt aside, we also think the length is awkward. Mid-calf is tough to pull off, period.

The final verdict? Amy should ditch the Little Bo Peep dress pronto, but we do like her classic, chic bun and strappy stilettos.

Sharon Stone

Sharon Stone

Here's Sharon Stone heading to bingo night at the senior center. Oh wait, she's actually attending the LA Lupus Hollywood Bag Ladies luncheon. Well, she got the bag lady part down, didn't she?

The 54-year-old actress usually looks far younger than her age, but this whole getup ages her big time. From her shapeless gray sack dress, boxy hat and driving gloves, it looks like Sharon is going for grandma chic. And are those clip-on earrings she's wearing?

Hey, Sharon, you've still got an amazing figure. Dress to accentuate that! Think more Basic Instinct, less Golden Girls.

The final verdict? We really tried but we can't find anything nice to say about this ensemble. Even her makeup is all wrong. We know you can do better!

Taylor Swift and Kristen Stewart's beautiful celebrity styles made us do a double take this week! We're telling you why in this week's installment of Friday’s Fashion Obsessions.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift

It's no secret that I'm kind of obsessed with Taylor Swift's style. And this week, the singer surprised me again with a super cute look she wore out and about in London. Seriously, how adorable does she look?

Taylor is known for her quirky, feminine vintage style, and here, she rocked a couple of trends in a perfect way. Bold sweaters are one of the fall trends I'm most excited about, and if you zoom on in here, you'll see that Taylor, a huge cat lover, has worked both polka dots and cats into her look. She finished the ensemble off with fun oxblood pants, black flats and a set of pearls.

The final verdict? I love how classy yet fun Taylor looks here! The look is cute and cozy, but totally on trend. It's really the perfect errand running outfit, don't you think?

Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart

Say what you will about her personal life, but I think Kristen Stewart was looking hot here! The Twilight actress has had some iffy fashion choices over the years and she often doesn't seem to look comfortable on a red carpet, but she definitely rocked this sexy Balenciaga number at this week's Los Angeles screening of On the Road.

At first sight, I wasn't sure I liked this look, but as I studied it, I came to love it more and more. Kristen is a guy's girl and often wears her sneakers on the red carpet after posing for photos in heels, so menswear always works well on her. The color combo is classic and the peek-a-boo stomach look is so on trend, as well.

The final verdict? This look shows off Kristen's slim figure yet also creates curves with the voluminous pants. It's the perfect combo, really! I also love how she stuck with the edgy look and had a fun updo and vampy makeup. Well done, girl!

We're obsessed!

We have a total crush on Jana Kramer's chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!

Va va voom! That pretty much sums up Jana Kramer's CMA Awards hair, don't you think? The actress showed up on the red carpet with this gorgeous curly 'do and I definitely took notice. I love the middle part, the shine, the volume — pretty much everything here.

Since I know you will too, I went straight to her fabulous stylist, Kelsey Deenihan, to get the scoop on how to recreate the look at home!

Get the look

  1. Start off by prepping damp hair with Maximista Thickening Spray by Oribe. Spray directly on the roots downward. This product is great for fine hair and will add volume while blow drying.
  2. Take a medium round brush and blow dry the hair in sections. For extra volume around the crown, wrap sections around the brush and pull upward, allowing the heated air to blow directly on the roots.
  3. Next, start curling the hair. Start picking up pieces about an inch and a half wide and wrapping them around a 1-1/2-inch curling iron. In the back of the head, change the direction in which the hair is wrapped around the iron to avoid the curls merging together. Finish each curl with a light spray of Oribe Superfine Hairspray. The lightweight spray will hold the curl without weighing it down.
  4. Once you get to the sections that frame the face, start curling all the sections back away from the face in the same direction.
  5. Take a soft, bristled flat brush and lightly comb through the hair.
  6. Finish off with Oribe Shine Smooth Style Serum on the ends of the hair for extra shine.

How to prevent oily bangs

We're partnering up with some of the hair industry's top talents to bring you answers to your most pressing hair questions. Up today? Justine Piecuch, a stylist at Boston's renowned Jeffrey Lyle Salon, is showing us how to prevent oily bangs.

Your question

"I have bangs and they always get oily and stringy from the oils on my face. How can I prevent this?"

Justine's answer!

Bangs actually are extremely high maintenance. The one thing I would recommend before getting them is to think about how much you're willing to deal with. If you tend to have an oily scalp, oily skin or tend to sweat a lot, they may not be for you.

It's tough, since bangs are right there in front of your face, there seems to be a constant need to touch them. The oils from your fingertips will cause them to get greasy and this usually seems to be the culprit. Try to avoid any contact!! Try brushing them with a boar's hair brush throughout the day. This helps to distribute the oils from the scalp throughout the hair which is very healthy.

If you're lazy and don't feel like completely shampooing and styling your hair, just shampoo the bangs daily, making sure to never condition them. They don't need it, EVER! There's a natural keratin on the first couple of inches of the hair, which is there to protect. Adding the conditioner will make them even oilier!

If none of this works and you're in a seasonal climate, try sticking to bangs when it's not hot and muggy out. Weather will always make things miserable. Try carrying around dry shampoo and hit this area when it gets real bad. It'll save you from the worst of times. Bangs are tough — it always seems like the second you grow them out, you forget how painful it is and give them a good chop again. With that said, they are the best accessory and always complete a look. Just have some patience and keep trying to get the right fix with them.

Style for heroes

Fashion and beauty expert Mary Alice Stephenson showed support for the troops in her own unique way last Wednesday.

The fashion and style guru helped beauty give back by providing over 65 makeovers to the mothers, sisters and wives of our veterans. SheKnows joins Mary Alice in saying thank you for always being loyal to those who are loyal to our country.

These makeovers were about more than just hair accessories and fashionable things — they were about making these women feel as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside. The two-day pamper initiative led up to the annual Stand Up for Heroes event at Beacon Theater on Nov. 8.

The first day started with racks of donated clothes  at The Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers and Mary Alice's team of top stylists. The 65 plus women picked through racks and tried on pretty things. Shoes and accessories decorated the room, waiting to adorn the women who deserved to sparkle.

On the second day, it was time for hair and makeup. Mary Alice's chosen glam squad came prepared to complete their looks and get the women red carpet ready for Stand Up for Heroes 2012, the event that brought these women and their husbands, brothers and fathers together for an honorary Veterans Day celebration.

As a longtime supporter of The Bob Woodruff Foundation, Mary Alice found a beautiful way to support Veterans and their families. We're crossing our fingers for 65 successful makeovers next year, too! In the meantime follow more of Mary Alice's beauty and style updates on her Facebook page here.

Fall trends that fall short

Each season brings highly anticipated styles and trends. Some soar and some flop — in astounding ways. It can’t be easy for designers to come up with innovative ideas every three months, but who is telling them these ideas are OK? Here are the ones that never should have made it past the sketch pad…

Geometric designs

Geometric designs

Please place a checkmark in the “yes” box if geometric prints make you want to hurl. We thought so. For the last freakin’ time, these were a bad idea in the '70s and they are a worse idea now. They are not appealing, interesting or flattering, so unless you still think beehives and tight polyester pants are a good idea, never wear this trend. If you insist on donning these dreadful patterns, carry ibuprofen with you to give to the people who have to look at you all day. It will diminish the pain in their temples. Think about it. People did too many drugs in the '60s, what followed was a decade of these geometric disasters. We can do better than this.

Plaid Pants

Plaid pants

We hated these when Mom made us wear them to kindergarten, and we hate them now. Known to some as “jack-a**” pants , plaid pants have no place on a woman’s body. Luggage? Sure. Pieces of furniture? OK. On a blanket? Yep. But under no circumstances should plaid be considered acceptable material for pants.

Summer dresses

Summer dresses

Old Navy released a huge line of dresses in late October, many of which are short and sleeveless. What is this madness? If you live in the tropics or are going on a cruise, this may be acceptable, but Old Navy released these fashions as if they were a good idea while many of us are dealing with sub-zero weather and blowing snow! We are here to nip this seasonal-crossover concept in the frozen bud right now.

Grandma’s sofa

Grandma’s sofa

Women are suckers for feminine floral patterns and retailers know it, which is why we now find flowers on every article of clothing. This is nothing less than abuse of an otherwise acceptable fashion trend. Floral patterns belong on dresses, skirts and the occasional top. Conversely, they do not belong on blazers, hats, shoes or skinny jeans. Floral patterns can go from looking sweet and feminine to resembling Grandma’s sofa in no time flat. Designers need to use this fabric sparingly so we don’t end up looking like bad kitchen curtains.

DIY cranberry anti-aging face mask

Cranberries aren't just for serving up next to your turkey at Thanksgiving. This year, set aside some cranberries to make a DIY face mask, and head into the holiday season looking and feeling great!

Easy, DIY Anti-aging Cranberry Face Mask

Cran-beauty

Fresh cranberries make an appearance around Thanksgiving and most people are buying them up to serve as a side dish. Stock up on those cranberries because you can make a great face mask with them. All it takes is a few ingredients to whip up an easy DIY anti-aging face mask: cranberries, red grapes, a bit of grapefruit juice and unflavored gelatin.

The acid in the fruit in this mask acts as an exfoliant, and vitamins A and C help with collagen production. Cranberries fight free radicals that can cause wrinkles, and they also help keep your skin moisturized.

Easy, DIY anti-aging cranberry face mask

Before applying the mask to your face, first test it on your inner arm, where your skin is more sensitive, to help ensure you can tolerate the ingredients. Wash your face to remove any dirt or makeup, and dry it completely. You may want to wear an old T-shirt when you apply the mask, as the ingredients may stain your clothing. Apply the mask to your face starting at your chin and working your way up, taking care to avoid your eyes. Relax for about 15 minutes before rinsing off the mask with warm water.

Cranberry Face Mask

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup seedless red grapes
  • 2 teaspoons grapefruit juice
  • 1 envelope unflavored gelatin

Directions:

1

Rinse the cranberries and grapes, and then add all the ingredients to a blender and puree until they form a paste-like mixture.

2

Cover the mixture and place in the refrigerator for 35 to 45 minutes to thicken.

3

Remove and allow the mixture to sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes.

4

Pull your hair away from your face and apply the mixture to clean skin. Find a spot where you can relax with the mask on your face for about 15 minutes. Gently wash off the mask with warm water, either in the shower or with a soft cloth.

3 Chic Twilight-inspired outfits for the Breaking Dawn premiere

The moment Twihards have been dreading since they picked up the first novel is finally here — the end. You might be planning to be one of dozens dressed up as the gothic-esque Volturi or an overly vamped Bella, but why not stand out with a less is more Twilight outfit? There are plenty of chic and low-key ways to channel your obsession for Twilight and its actors.

Classy Volturi

Instead of going gothic-inspired with the long cape to achieve the Volturi look, go subtle and believable with a touch of sexy. The Volturi family is dangerous, mysterious, and above all, their looks aim to kill. Their presence is always unexpected and unwarranted. From a distance, you should appear to be gorgeous and elegantly dressed, but up close, people will be dangerously impressed.

Twilight -- Classy Volturi inspired outfit

Where wolf?

Twilight isn’t complete without the gorgeous Jacob Black and his character’s werewolf subculture, but who wants to dress up like a werewolf? Face it, it’s hard to show you’re team Jacob when you can’t look chic in the process — that is until now. Here is how to achieve the Twilight series’ werewolf look while remaining fashionable and posh.

Twilight -- Wolf inspired outfit

  • Embrace the current faux fur trends and invest in a faux fur jacket— they are in right now and can be recycled in future looks outside the movie premiere.
  • Pair your fur over a black shirt and leggings/dark jeans — keep your look slim and agile looking.
  • Don’t forget the Indian spiritual element. Add some fashionable hair feathers to your hair and wear dreamcatcher-inspired earrings.
  • For shoes, aim for faux snake-skin pumps to get that Indian tribal touch. Pump up your confidence and get your wolf on — if Jacob were there, he would want to date you .

Beautiful Bella

The second half of Breaking Dawn is when Bella transitions into a sultry and flawlessly gorgeous vampire. Time to put those sneakers, sweater and jeans to the side and vamp yourself up to the max if you want to achieve Bella’s stunning new look. Here is how you do it.

Bella inspired outfit

  • Wear a medium to long fitted dress and heels that accentuate your figure and make you feel powerful and in command of your beauty.
  • If you’re brunette, simply deep condition your hair and add some light curls. If your hair is blonde, invest in a glossy wig or stick to your natural color — beauty comes in both colors in the vampire world.
  • Be sure to pay attention to every detail of yourself — from scent to eyebrows — and try best to achieve that “no hair out of place” demeanor.
  • Wear a tinted foundation a few shades lighter than your own for that “pale face” but vibrant look.
  • Go online and order Bella’s replica wedding ring and colored contacts for accessories — they are surprisingly inexpensive and bring you to Bella’s level.
